Still 50/50 as most of my spots are very hit and miss. I'll probably just go for the day out.
It is going to be hard for alot of the shore based brigade but that happens.

hard work
i've got plans on that day anyway, but i went out last saturday early morning. i dont know whether it was the tide (conditions and clarity were good), but 5 of my "never fail" spots only yeilded 3 average sized squid in 4 hours.

that scotto lot of members down the club having been going out during the week and reckon its hit miss, a few that always get their limit, water might be too warm?

Yep, from what I've been
Yep, from what I've been told Yak and shore fisho's can usually rock up and pay on the morning. Might give it a shot out of the yak, though don't think I'm going to be a threat to anyone :D

I am sure anyone can still
I am sure anyone can still enroll. I have not really seen the same enthusiasm as last year though but I am sure there will be a few guys turning up. As for the JetSki Fisho's, well I hope everyone that told me they are coming will show up. Then we will be at least 7 Ski's. Last year it was just me. Next year hopefully we will be at least 50 or ??????? so
In between the squidding I will hopefully also get my 8 KGW's. Only takes about 15 - 20 min to do this, that is if you know where to go.
Cheers

The Yak Lads
particuarly the Yakfishwest crew are very keen, and have been planning and scheming for weeks on the oppositions demise!!
I'm pretty sure there will be solid yak representation there!
Unfortunatley i'm out of town this weekend, saves me getting dirty tho....

I will be there, i am
I will be there, i am getting a head start i stumbled into a squid jig presantion at my local tackle shop (compleat,Rockingham)this arvo,,a family member from Yamashita was doing a presantion on his range of jigs and had the range and had a dvd going,,got a few tips,,not sure if Complete are getting any in but have heard good reports about them ,,Paul Willis the classic organiser is at yakfishwests monthly meeting tonight to give us some more ideas on catching them,
If i can't catch a squid on sunday shoot me
Was that you on the Parm bank on sunday squidding KR ?
Oh and boats will be fine if you pay some time before hand, its never full and they just need to review your paper work i guess, but don't quote me,,

Sounds good, was a great
Sounds good, was a great night with Paul talking for about 1 1/2 hours,
Busselton, Albany maybe Dampier are future possible locations Paul said, maybe Hillarys also but its a bit tricky if you get bad weather there for small craft,,
Put me down for Busselton, i lived opposite the jetty and started squidding in the early 70's there , i have a bit of an idea where they hang out
I got my PB squid from the Sound on Sunday so its looking good, squid numbers were down but the yak boys only need 5 for their bag,i would normally catch that in the first 1/2 hour then things starting slowing down as the sun comes up,,

Well my tactics will be
Well my tactics will be starting off with Pink and Orange jigs first thing in the morning either from the Harmitusu ,Yozuri, keystone or Tsuriken range in 2.5 or possible a 3.0 if its windy and i am in deeper type water,,,
As the sun comes up i will be trying a natrual colour yo zuri , shimano kieras in the white clear transparent and a yo zuri all in 2.5 a 1.8 Daiwa emarlds might get a run if the squid are shy and spooky,,late morning if there time a silver/mullet colour will get a swim (2.5)
Have not got any hard and fast locations yet,it will depend on the wind and will decide in the morning of the comp, the spot that won last year will be out of reach for the kayaks this round i would imagine,
Berley dropshot with 4lb crystal fireline and 4lb flurocarbon leader as always, it doubles as a bream outfit,,
The wind will make things tricky,i think i will be trolling most of the time and stopping to work over an area when i find a patch of squid, casting immediateing in the same spot as i got the last one 9 times out of 10 i get 1 or 2 more from that spot.
Might give switchbaiting a go,the biggest squid always seem to grab a fish before a jig so it might be worth a burl.
Anybody got any thoughts on the Yamashita live range (they have a warm jacket thats suppose to attract more squid ) i was talking to our best kayak squidders one couple says that the only jig thay can't catch a squid on ,,
I have a brochure in front of me that has data from Yamashita,it says the tests had 190 bites on the warm jacket and 57 on normal theres other results but i will keep it short, they had two jigs at the same dept,,the heats supposed to bring them in,,
What have others got planned to get in the winners circle ?
Oh i will be useing bill norman speed clips and breaden clips also for lightening fast changes (will have two rods )

Things could change if its overcast, can only plan for what the forecast is saying now,,bright and sunny (but windy)i will drop the greens, natrual colours and clears if its overcast, the vibrant coloured Tsurikens (orange) will probally be the go to jig in that case,,plus Harmitsu pink will get a run,,

Yeah the Pink and Orange
Yeah the Pink and Orange might stay on all day as well, i will review them at about 9.00am or a touch before,,but the Shimano kiera has been killing the pig on sunny days as well so i can't overlook that,,
Glad you are catching a few on the warm skins,,

Pretty sure its the new
Pretty sure its the new egixile, its white and (transparent),,first saw them two weeks ago in Rocko, caught me 25 squid on the first test morning(C & R a lot of them), i was a bit unsure how it would go or whether i had done my dough ,,
I think it might even represent a whiting near the bottom maybe sometimes and squid love whiting so thats a bonus if thats right,,

Got 4 squid this evening, was very hard going in the wind tho, gave a Daiwa emarld in 1.8 a run, i can eliminate that area from the classic,,,its going to be a tough one for those with paddle kayaks thats for sure,,glad i have pedals,,

I have no idea about our bag
I have no idea about our bag limits, I guess it is not decided yet as JetSki Fishing herer is so new, we don't have rules yet. We should just win by default, ha ha ha.
I still need to find some good squidding ground, I know a few areas but nothing I can bargain on. Only good spot I have that has never failed me is KGW. I get my bag limit every time withing about 30 - 40 min.
What do you do to get your jigs down under if the drift is to fast>

Use a sea anchor to slow
Use a sea anchor to slow your drift down or use a heavier jig (3.5 etc)or put a sinker on the bottom of your line and jig up further pasnoster rig (can't spell)
But with this wind i think i will be trolling.
(having said that i can sit on the same spot all day if i want to because i have a pedal kayak and can hold any position)
Oh and usually KG spots are good for squid as well depending on the country,,a mix of sand patches and weed is good for squid, you might go well switchbaiting,,tie a line around the tail of a KG and send it down near the bottom while you are jigging,,if a squid grabs your whiting pull it in slowly and when it lets go near the ski throw a jig in its place and hopefully the squid will slurp it down,,
I would suggest you guys do a bag of 5 to start these comps of with, just tell Paul what you prefer ,your the jet ski rep,,
On Edit > Under tactics i wrote i am useing 4lb line, most squid experts reccomend 8lb braid and 8 lb leader to prevent loss of jigs, i don't lose any but 8lb is more insurance,,

Fitted both reels with Braid, one with 10 lb FROG Power Braid line and the smaller reel with 6 lb Super Bass Extreme. (Don't ask the price)
12lb Leader of EGI SV-I Sunline - invisible under water but the squid will probably see it with those big eyes.

I even got the instruction booklet on how to use the warm jackets.

Yep, can say it was a 100%
Yep, can say it was a 100% improvement for me. Last year I got zip, this year 9, No 10 missed the esky and fell back in the water. Beau had a good catch on the Ski. The other two JetSki fisho's did not come to the weigh in so I guess they did not get anything. Seem to me the place to have been for today comp was at the Large bridge going to Garden Island. A cracker squid came out there.
Anyway, the advise you gave shorty was not in vein though. I went to get myself some of those warm Jackets and they came through for me today. Maybe its all luck, but the more I do it the luckier I'll get.
Cheers
