Winch question

Why is it nearly everyone mounts their winches on the front of the car when all the good books tell you that if you get bogged the easiest way out is back from where you came. This is because you know what you have already driven over but not what lies ahead.

So in my opinion it should be able to fit over the towball with detachable cables so when not in use it could be stored away. All it would need to work from the front of the vehicle woyld be a towball fitted to the bumper / roobar

Getting bogged is part of entering the real wild John. When the going gets tough, the tough don't go home!

Learning

All part of learning, have only been thoroghly bogged once and no winch would have helped, no way I could have got it out alone, waves breaking over the top of the old Hilux. Took 3 x 4x4s to pull it out while I was out fishing, bosses orders. Drove on to Dead dinish beach near Augusta, towing a 4 metre dinghy with 200 litres of diesel in 25 llitre containers, as I swung it round to point it up to the top of the beach a wave came in dumping a mountain of weed on to the trailer and down she went. Unloaded the fuel and floated the dinghy off , too late, the ute was down to its belly, rang the boss for help and he said take the dinghy out and refuel the sharkboat and go to work he would get it sorted. Took them four hours to get it out. Had waves breaking over it for hours, turned the key and the old petrol jobbie started first kick.
