Wood fire bbq areas near Perth?
Submitted by old salt on Sun, 2012-02-26 10:38
Hey lads,
Do any of you know of any nice park areas that have woodfire bbqs for the public to use near Perth? Even better if there near the water close by in order to kill a bit of time and let the kids have a fish?
Thanks in advance,
Old Salt

Not sure old Salt
but think they all have been convered to eletric because of the fire danger on a total fire ban day. I know Manning Pk in Spearwood has electric, but as far as the beaches no. Maybe somebody that goes to Coogee Beach might know or other beaches up the coast, Leeman has electric right on the foreshore near the tiolets/crayfishermans jetty, has chairs/tables and the kids can fish or play n the play equipment from there but a long way to go hahahah.
We bought a little portable gas bbq just for that either a picnic or on the beach/park, only downside is you can't use gas on a total fire ban day only electric.

Wungong Dam
Try this one Salty. A great spot for kids and you can fish down at the bottom recreation lake. Free gas barbies, i reckon you might struggle to find a wood BBQ with the fire restrictions.

Fishmarket reserve it is,
Fishmarket reserve it is, although I think you cannot light a fire until ater March. You just cant beat the taste and heat of a wood fire or char coal bbq. I get frustrated using public gas bbq and watching the meat just stew on a semi luke warm plate. I'll find out about times you can light a fire and re post later.
Thanks to all.

You can use the BBQ's at
You can use the BBQ's at Fishmarket during summer no probs at all legal wise. I go down there all the time so the kids can have a fish & play on the playground while I cook up a feast. Spoken to the ranger down there a few times & they said it is fine so long as the fire is contained to the bbq & the area immediately around the bbq is well cleared. Most of the hotplates are pretty knackered though so it pays to take along some foil to cover them up with rather than cooking directly on them.

you took the words out of my mouth Graeme, i went down there today and found they were very cruddy and well rusted i was hoping they were the open fire sort with a grill instead of a plate? That way you can bring your own clean grill plate and take it home with you. oh well it was worth a shot?
