Woodies or Mangles for Squid and Hezza

Bout to take the young fella out on the dinghy to chase some squid and hezza. Don't know either area so can someone let me know where am I most likely to get him into some?

Just putt around with a couple of 10g gold twistys out the back and you'll find them soon enough

Made my out to Parmelia Bank

Sun, 2015-07-12 19:30

Made my out to Parmelia Bank on the eastern side of the channel and caught two belter squid and a lonely herring while stuffing around with a placcie on my bream rod. Berleyed up and herring were nowhere to be seen and even tried trolling for them but although it was hard work for a feed had a cracking arvo with my 5y old in our first venture into open water and I stopped up on the way back and let him catch a few blowies with the handline.

Gotta say that the 3m Spindrift performed way better than I thought it would in the ocean, could definitely handle bigger swell and stronger wind than today

Good stuff

I'd still be super wary though with a 5 year old in a 3m river boat, things can go pear shaped quickly.

Cheers mate and yeah it was

Cheers mate and yeah it was out first ocean forey in the year I've had it except when the Mrs and I went out Freo heads during our first run . I've been in the middle of the Peel Estuary when it's been pretty rough so very gunshy on going into open water.

That day it was a 0-5kn wind all day with a 1.1m swell and we made sure we were in a fairly well populated spot and both both life jackets the whole time. That being said I am trying to buy a 5-6m fibreglass boat at the moment to start going into the ocean a lot more but they are pretty thin on the various advertising websites.
