Woodies ramp pain.

Pretty painful shot from Woodman's ramp last week.
From what we could see the boat was detached from the trailer and reversed down the ramp, until the trailer hit the curb on the side of the ramp and the boat slid off... into one inch of water. After the shock wore off some of the guys got in behind it and did what they could to lift it while one of them grabbed the winch and dragged the sucker back up on to the trailer.
Couldn't see how much damage was done to the leg but I reckon they didn't get out for the rest of the day.

That time of year...
...when all of the weekend warriors, who haven't launched their boats in eight months, come out of the woodwork. Another good reason why boating shouldn't be a "seasonal" thing, especially in this part of the world where the winters are quite mild and in many ways better boating weather than in summer (no guaranteed southerlies/crowded ramps).

we all gotta learn
Would have hurt! went out on Monday after launching was waiting for a guy to back his boat in to clear the ramp, when i saw his trailer straddle the cement curb that leads to the jetty called out to him and blew the horn he had just got his boat back from fitting a outboard and pod. Would not have been nice. For dark ramps and strange places i give the deckie a hand held UHF so he can yell at me. Mind you at 25 ft the boat is larger than most on a trailer so can be hard to see around.

be careful
heres a similar story
As we pulled in to the ocean reef ramp about 2 o'clock somewhere between christmas and new years a bloke was just loading his fiberglass cat onto his trailer and as my dad walked up to get the car (i was holding the boat) he noticed something. he went down and looked at the guy trying to figure out what was wrong when he noticed the hitch was not on the ball but the ramp! after the guy backed his boat off (he was driving it on) dad and the guy tried lifting it with no use. so the guy driving the boat put it on the back half of the trailer and it was lifted with ease. we reckon someones been playing with trailers at ocean reef so remember to check you trailer before getting the boat on.

A
mate's Dad drove their 18ft Bonito from Shoalwater to Beckenham for a service (motor) at foothills marine in Kenwick and when his Dad got to work with it, one of the wheel bearings had totally collapsed and when we lifted the trailer off the ground, the whole hub just came off with the tyre as though the wheel nuts weren't on! Imagine going down the frigin freeway and the wheel comes off! so damn lucky!! Only 2 yrs old bearing with those bearing buddies on? Go figure!
