worms in fuel filter
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Tue, 2017-01-03 11:04
ok so they are not worms! a type of sealant maybe?
- anyone seen anything like this before? - I hope they have come from a bowser rather than my tank! - if they are in my tank I cant imagine where they would have come from?
removed from a Racor unit with water sep at bottom, filter is about a year old (according to the date changed written on it) so they could have been in there a while -

Filter
Have you used an ethanol mix fuel ?
If so this could be the remains of a gasket that was there.

Hmm
I cant imagine that stuff that large could get sucked up from the fuel tank simply by the pressure of the fuel pump. Must be an old gasket or sealant of some type used to "secure" the filter to the housing.
I did then the best that I knew how. When I knew better, I did better.

Looks like someone got a little excited with the sealant!
Its fuel sender gasket sealant had it after a workshop replace a fuel tank under warranty.
Just be aware it can block the primer blub as well as the pick up with in the tank depending on its size.
Which did happen to us!!!!

Slim build up
we use an adititive in our diesel tanks to allow for slim and condensation build up , this maybe the reminantes of the old mixture which has changed now petrol has been added

Silicon
as the others mentioned it could be a seal that was made up of silicon base material that is not suited to Petrol , i would look at sender unit or any inspection hatches on the tank and change any gaskets to proper seals otherwise they will start to leak in a short period when all the silicon has gone , you might want to inspect the sender unit as well incase its not petrol tolerant
