yak mak

After having been tied up down south in a bream comp last weekend and my mate sending me constant photos of his captures in the weeks prior i had to get out there, so last wednesday i dedicated 2hours of trolling before i had to get to work. Two hours is all i needed to land my first yak mak. Not a 20kg monster like my mate landed the week earlier but at 115cm (cold) and estimated 10kg it was enough to give me a smile for days. They are very fussy bastards and the slow trolled bait has to be trolled at the rite speed and has to be presented impeccably on the rite rig otherwise its just trolling you will be doing. Found all of this out when my mate had a hit and landed one before i was even able to see one on the sounder, so after a rig alteration and a few laccy bands it took 10mins. The speed and power of these fish is insane, and to get one off the yak metro on relitively light gear is awsome.

Your definitely doing something right with results like that.

I'm still trying to work a few things out but will eventually get there I'm sure. Hopefully be able to post a quality fish in a photo like you have succeeded in doing.

Once again.....Well done.

Its a similar style of rig

Its a similar style of rig just a few mods. I spent heaps of time searching the net and youtube for the rite rig. Got most of the ideas from the yanks and their ballyhoo rigging.

I cant let all my secrets

Tue, 2016-03-08 08:19

I cant let all my secrets out the bag till i atleast get out and nail afew more. Hope you can understand, on a yak im limited for spots so when i find one i try to keep it kinda hush. Haha but there is heaps around north south and west. Boats just shut them down, lives on anchor would slay em or drifting dead baits

Yeah I do the odd bit of yak fishing and completely understand. A lot more tactical than powering out into deep water with a big donk on the back

Nice one!

Tried for another 5 hours on the weekend for no Mackie action, though bagged a little bronzie. Nice to hear the drag go after nothing since the last salmon run.
