Yallingup Salmon
Submitted by Cameron71 on Fri, 2016-04-01 14:24
Hi Lads
down in Busselton with my old dad and looking for a non rock based place to have a go at the salmon from. Is yallingup beach worth a go? Or am I better off the beach at meelup or bunkers? Can't risk him slipping on the rocks.
Thanks
Cam

Injidup
Further south is Injidup, good view from the carpark and if the swell is up you can go round the left hand side of the beach where its more protected, access off wyadup road

Smiths is worth a look & is
Smiths is worth a look & is more or less on the way to Injidup. Turn left onto Caves Rd right before the entrance to Yallingup town site. A few KM's later turn right onto Canal Rocks Rd the look for Smiths Beach Rd on your right. Park at the car park at the bottom of the hill. There's a platform you can sit on to watch for schools & it's only a short easy stroll down onto the beach.
Injidup is a great beach but is a long steep climb so your dad may find it hard going if he has mobility issues. Definitely worth a look though.

Salmon in Bunkers
I was down there yesterday in the boat, all the salmon we caught and saw caught were on the eastern side of bunkers.

Eastern side
If they were on the eastern side then they'd be on the beach. The bay runs north/south.
Usually on their up run the schools come around Cape Naturaliste and lose contact with the shore so do a big loop south coming in between Dunsborough and Meelup then travel north past Point Piquet. Eagle Bay, Rocky Point and Bunker Bay then head across to hit the cast un smaller schools around Myalup and Preston Beach. On the back run the fish are usually darker in colour and run all the way down the coast rarely stopping and in very small schools and travelling fast until they hit the south coast.

You might want to check your compass carnarvonite. Not too sure where you get north/south from.

Salmon
Schools have been running westward in Geo bay from Peppie and Forrest beach. Some caught there over the weekend.

East west
Looks as if Ricko19 is correct Carnarvonite, runs more east/west than north/south....if they were on the south side, they'd be on the beach, just saying. See below link

Pick
Take your pick, is you want south then take the Rocky Point end and if you want east then take the Shelley beach end.
Though have to admit in all time fishing there as a pro I have never looked at a compass or chart, never needed to.
