Yammie 2 banger problems
Submitted by Carry on Sat, 2013-12-14 12:42
G'day all having a few dramas with my 115 2 banger seems to be only firing on only 3 cylinders won't idle it's got 4 brand new plugs in it and only 3 seem to show any signs of use so what I am trying to work out is could it be a dodgy lead thats breaking down or could it be the cdi unit if anyone knows of any quick tests or tricks i could try and also I can't find any info on the particular model the numbers are 115 CETO 6E5 L 410823 R .
Cheers carry

First thing i'd be checking
First thing i'd be checking is visually looking for a spark in each cylinder

I had an issue with my 3cyl
I had an issue with my 3cyl 60hp yammie 2 stroke. Barely running on 2 cylinders and certainly didn't wNt to Idle !
After a bit of tinkering I found The bottom carby was rooted , had some water come through fuel and it sat in the bowl corroding the whole lot out !!
if you can eliminate the spark issue maybe check that !!

Harder to fire a cyl
Harder to fire a cyl under.load, prob an ign issue. Pull the plugs after a run on the water to determine the cyl at fault (fouled, black plug), clean plugs and swap faulty cyl lead with another. If the fault is still with the same cyl (fouled plug again) then the coil (or trigger to coil) is at fault if it has individual coils (or a comp issue, but u said its fine at home so wont be), if the fouled plug is now the new cyl the lead got swapped to, then the lead is faulty. Basic four stroke missfire diagnosis, but should be the same with 2 bangas

Individual carb per cyl? You
Individual carb per cyl? You got a cyl with no fuel then maybe. Has the problem occured since u had carby work done?

Sounds like a hole in the water jacket
that is letting water into the top of the piston!! Had a similar thing happen to an older 2 stroke 40hp yammie. If your spark plug is nice and clean and shiny thats what it will be..
FEEEISH ONNN!!!

carbs
Bit hard to say timo i had dramas with the motor bogging down in low revs 2000 rpm to 3000rpm but then she would kick in and run at 3500rpm to full noise no problem and since the carbies have been done it just doesnt seem to want to idle on the water but does at home also hard to start on the water you need to choke it up and as the revs die down kick it into gear and give it a bit to get moving im not real mechanically minded when it comes to carbies bit to finnicky to me .

Similar occurrence
My four stroke was hard to start and rough running until opened up...from Marine Doctor inspection found one carby had a blockage so only running on three carbs. Had all carbs cleaned new o rings, gaskets now runs a dream again. Was advised not to operate in such state as could burn a hole in a piston.
Can be frustrating working through this sort of thing!
