yesterdays trip to rotto!
hey guys, so decided to make the most of the weather forecast yesterday and decided to go for a fish with brad (anytime brad). well we launched from woodies at about seven with the NE winds blowing a lil. made the call to just go get some squid for bait/feed to get some of those bloody tricksy kgs(thumpers hopefully) but after 2 drifts with not a touch on either jig the patience was running thin and decided to go out the back of rotto.
when we were almost there brad stopped the boat coz he noticed a decent size school of SOMETHING under the boat bout 10 metres to 30 metres deep so quickly rigged up a small jig and dropped it right through the school, first drop nothing, second drop 3 cranks and copped a hell of a whack but no hook up
, pulled the jig up and saw there was some pretty decent tooth marks on the jig right below the hook, that would be right, had a couple more drops with nothing and the school soon disappeared. had not seen a thing at all to inspire the next decision made(no birds, no fish jumping) but decided to put out some lures and have a troll off west end, prob ten minutes went past and brad was on, the fish was no match for his 24kg trolling outfit and he dragged in a healthy lil sbt.
by this time the water was gettin flatter and flatter and eventually got to glass
and the birds and fish were busting up everywhere, i then decided to chuck a small lure on my 6kg t-curve and diawa excellor, brad was laughing and saying that he had to see this haha, so only trolled the one rod for a chance to see wat she could do, 5 mins again and BANG she started sceaming, tightened the drag a bit and managed to stop it, after a while had it under the boat and as soon as it saw the surface off she went again screaming for the bottom (i love those last desperate runs, they pull so fast on light gear)
soon boated the tuna and went prob 8 kg. brad then decided to chuck his light rod out as well to have some fun, and fun he had hahaha, well we ended up with nine tuna 6-9kg range, 6 of which were double hook-ups and in some of the nicest conditions ive seen out there, finished it off by checkin out 3 or 4 big whales doin there thing and a lazy turtle just chillin sunbaking on the surface, fun fun fun. ps. no pics SORRY, but i am goin to the shops today to get myself one of the panasonic lumix cams, i hear theyre not too bad. thanks, Jamie

Tuna
It was a great day out, Much better sharing the day with someone else rather than going solo. I wouldnt have stayed around garden island so thanks Jamie.
I couldnt have reported it better, it was a great day out and the double hook ups on light gear was a blast. It would have been great to have a camera to catch the action.
brad
I would rather be fishing

Sounds like some fun was had. I'll be switching to 4kg gear soon when the Dolphin Fish start turning up. Love the battle; so much more fun than skull dragging a fish in.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.
