were fortunate enough to get there a bit earlier than everyone else and we hit hot run. We probably caught about 30 tailor between us in an hour.

We released a large percentage, gave away a few and then, after taking a few for ourselves, shared them around with the guys who had only managed a couple of fish.

That sounds good What type of reel is it?

Sat, 2009-11-14 22:57

There is nothing like getting some new gear.

I think the tailor will be running for awhile yet Kane, so you should have no worries.

Nothing toooo flash mate

Sun, 2009-11-15 08:15

Love my high end gear but for beach and rock fishing, its gonna get bashed on rocks and full of sand, this should do the job as intended without upsetting me greatly when it no longer looks as pretty.

Daiwa "Windcast 6000 Surf" fishing reel. Not too sure about the all the specs but saw it online, same shape as saltiga surf, thought for the price might be worth giving it a go.

:)

That looks great Kane

That's exactly what you want for the beach and rocks.
A nice longcast spool, plenty of line capacity and strong gears. Looks like a tailor catching machine to me.

Haha your not wrong mate. Stocked up on a few baitfish (Scalies) at the ammo jetty the other day getting ready. Done a few mulloway expeditions in the river too, but they're not jumping on my line just yet.

Mulies have been doing most of the damage David

Mon, 2009-11-23 20:12

Though fresh whiting have also worked and garfish. But 99 per cent would have been caught on mulies. We have fished them different ways, on paternoster rigs, sliding sinkers, unweighted, it hasn't really mattered. When they have been on the bite they have been hitting them pretty much as soon as your bait starts sinking in the water column.
I am sure lures would have worked well, and Sherbs has hooked a few with lures, but the weed has prevented too much lure action happening.
