No more Rubbers
Submitted by Jody on Thu, 2008-01-03 20:41.
After many years of doing the hard yards, hubby is looking at getting a compressed spear gun (gettin' old I recon).
As yet to do the research, and just hoping someone will have some tips/info on brands and models??

Bubbles, Alfred???...must of
Bubbles, Alfred???...must of had a leak. Phenumatic guns are sealed. Had a Cressi Sub that served me well for 10 years. Have moved onto a seac sub x-fire, which I love. Ya hubby will still need a few heave ho's to load an air gun though.
Cressi or Mares if he is keen.
Cheers Pete

Thanks Pete
And Rutar, your just a naughty boy
Yeah, the bubbles had me worried, but don't you leave a trail of them with a tank on??
All new to me, I mind the boat.
Pete, the seac seems to be with rubber, have you gone away from the phenumatics? Will have a look at both Cressi & Mares.
There must be pluses & minuses with both types??
There are actually spearfishing forums (???) but could take 4-eva ploughing thru it all.

Hi Jody
I have not done a lot of spearfishing but have a few mates who are mad keen freedivers.
They all swear by the "Rubber's" and all have long wooden (sorry can't remember the name but they were bloody expensive) guns.

spearguns
Have used an air gun and although still works well enough is no match to a powerband gun.
I have 3 and they are all powered by 'rubbers' and would not go the way of an compressed air gun. With a 'rubber' gun, maintenance is a breeze but can have hassels with compressed air.
Also a spare spear is probably much more of a requirement with compressed air guns as it needs to be dead straight to go into the barrel. With other guns, a slight bend can be straightened enough to allow you to continue using it before you get home and fix it properly.
Besides all this loading a compressed air gun is just as bad as normal I found.
So all in all tell him to harden up and quit his whinging :))

So all in all tell him to
Exactly!
Like I said, I had 10 years with the gun(12 yrs ago), but parts too expensive(back then) to repair...and more maintenance required.
Wouldn't touch one now as Gully has mentioned. Powerband is much better IMO...and cheaper.
Again, tell him to Harden up!
Cheers Pete
