Lost gear
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2015-12-26 12:17My bro-in-law's boat sank at its mooring in Rocky Bay out at Rotto on Xmas eve. He lost a fair bit of gear that floated out of the hull. It's got full flotation so lucky he didn't lose the whole boat.
he has recovered some gear but his main loss is a big Yellow esky probably 150 litres. If anyone sees it or knows of someone who has recovered one, I would be grateful of you could let me know who they are or pass on a contact number.
cheers

Submitted by plugga25 on Wed, 2015-12-23 18:58Hi all out there.
Im on the hunt for a couple of new really good quality filleting knives.
I have always used 6 inch and 9 inch knives and see no reason to change.
Just need a couple new blades but want really good quality.
I been looking at Kato, Kershaw or Martiini.
Any one have preferences to what they use??

BBQ Spit Thanks to Epic Marine
Submitted by eziliving on Mon, 2015-12-21 05:48Last week i was going to make a frame for a bbq spit I had saved from going to the tip, as my sons 18th birthday was saturday night just gone. Last saturday i got a phone call work related so i had to go to Port Hedland for the week. With everything already arranged for the boys 18th, i decided to go and see Todd from Epic as he has done plenty of work for me previously. After a quick discussion and a sketch Todd said he will have it ready for me. True to his work Saturday i went down to pick it up and sure enough it was ready. being the first spit i have done i learnt a few things for the next one but this still tastest great. Big thanks to Todd for getting this done for me.

Boat back on the water
Submitted by Madmerv on Sat, 2015-12-19 07:31Well after more than a year on the hardstand My main fishing boat is back on the water.
When i say My boat, i dont own the boat but the guy who does is living overseas and i have the keys..
Had a complete respray from top to bottom with new clears installed on the flybridge and sides. New covers for the front windows, rebuild on the anchor whinch, and a shit load of smaller stuff done.
Not quite finished off yet but with a day or two's work it will be ready to head out. Need to get the numbers on the side also.

Weather forecast
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2015-12-17 07:45For those who are complaining about the winds they have been experiencing recently.
We have had exactly the same as forecast for next week for the last 3-4 weeks. Blowing its ring off every day and night with no let up. Well for one bit it makes radio watch duty at sea rescue easy but boring with no one logging on

Peaceful Bay
Submitted by sandbar on Mon, 2015-12-14 10:31I have read plenty about this spot and have never been there. Bit of mixed reading when it comes to launch & retrieve, more the latter. Anyone here going or been there recently?
I will be with 18ft fibreglass, triton with decent tyres. I am thinking it will be ok but wondering is there a 4wd track onto the beach, much bouncing around or is it a hard track down onto hard beach.
Have you beeen this time of year and how rough does it get?
Whats the facilities like, should I bring my own portable toilet? Showers any good? BBQ's? I know they have told my wife everyhting is pristine( cause thats what she wants to hear) but I am hoping others views will help prepare to make it a comfortable time away.
If you are heading down let me know. Could be a chance of deckie spot.
Thanks in advance.

First time on the loop
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Sun, 2015-12-13 17:30Headed out to Rotto for a couple of dives today. It had been about ten years and was very nice down there. First time on the loop and found it frustrating to start with. The whites were much easier to get. Second dive was much better. Found a really nice ledge full of crays. Most had tar spots or berried which was frustrating but good to see. Headed home with a good feed for our efforts. Loved the dive and the hunt which was something different. Cheers to JB, Browny and Lynds. Lots of other crew out there as well. Checked by fisheries at the ramp which was also good to see.

Vale Harry Butler
Submitted by Dale on Sat, 2015-12-12 15:39I read he has succumbed to his cancer on Friday. A truly great Australian and more to the point, a great West Australian. An educator, an environmentalist and all round good bloke. I saw him a lot doing his shopping in Busso and he was always good for a g'day Harry, how you doing. We have lost a true legend.

Rookie mistake!
Submitted by sandbar on Fri, 2015-12-11 08:21What a Dickhead I was this morning. Headed out from peron to check pots behind the 5 and as i got passed , The Spit? 1st pin, I was thinking the weather is not as bad as yesterday, all good. Travelling nicely at 18knts thought lets step it up a little, 24knts and within 3 m ins temp alarm goes off. Backed straight off, hat off and felt motor, yep she is hot. Let it idle with the hat off getting that blowing easterly over the motor and it cooled pretty quick. Headed straight back to the ramp watching the tell tale, docked and left.
Driving home racking my brain when I suddenly pullled over, run to the back of the motor and theres the problem, Left the MUFFS ON! U Dickhead!
a few people at the ramp seen me and commented the impellors stuffed, lucky i didnt heatsieze it.
7yrs o boating and thats the first time i have done this, hopefully the last.
