Im seeing if anyone can give me info on fishing in Albany. We have booked a week and a bit stay in Albany in early January with a heap of farming friends. Im considering taking the big boat (615 Barcrusher) or just the dingy. Happy to share any info I have in exchange or buy someone a beer when im there haha!!

- If possible I wanted to get out and try get a dhu or snapper something decent to eat. Is ground hard to come by? Looking at the map it drops off pretty quick

- If I take the big boat whats the best boat ramp to launch from?

- Keen for some squid, been lookin on youtube and everyone seems to go to emu point?

- Years and years ago when I went down there as a kid we used to get crabs in the kalgan river in January, still get plenty of crabs down there?

 Might be a bit early but decided to get the 2025 Crays discussion going.

Talking to a mate today and discussing when we should get the pots out. We go out off Mindarie. Last year they seem to run a little earlier than the year before so be interesting when they start running this year? Thoughts? Thinking in the next couple of weeks might get the pots in.

Interestingly I was out off Woodman point just before the demersal ban and noticed lines of pro pots already out but in deeper water - 40s

 Whats the track like into The Spot in Yanchep these days, haven't been up there for years, not sure if you def need a 4WD to get in ?

Have been thinking about how my year would look if there was no demersal boat fishing.  Chasing tailor, skippy, squid, herring, whiting etc and advancing both my fishing and  cooking skills for those species, seems on the cards. Pelagics could also get a bit more attention, with SBT and mackerel in the frame, but for those I'm a novice.  Drones seem effective along the coast for pinkies and impact on dhu should be minimal, which might mean the land-based rules stay the same, so that's something to ponder. Just wondering what sort of scenarios people are conjuring.

 A mate was telling me about a friend living on a yatch with his missus and the fish they caught was filleted and put in the freeze for eating to help withthe money side of thing. well what i was told was fisheries borded the boat went through the freeze on board and done them for processing at sea. I dont know if thats true or not but if it is ,then its a bit rough as the boatwas there abode.

Decided to take a fortnight off during the shool holidays and managed to get out a couple of times and finally landed on some gold.

Now, most would know that I have been fishing for a very long time but I have always struggled to find the right spot. I have both Navionics and C-Map on the boat so have looked for countour lines and have come across countless lumps and bumps in my travels which have shown fish, but havent managed to get anything of substance, other than a very enjoyable snapper (in April last year)

I have the ability to fish beside someone who catches fish....without getting a touch on my line

Anyhow, Thursday of the first week of the holidays looked good wind wise (glassy) but with swell coming down from 2m so it wqs breaking on 5FB...We powered out to 35m for a play and after a few picks and drifts, we managed 45cm KG which was quickly in the esky. 

With wife and Daughter feeling a bit off, we were going to head 3nm north west towards west end but half way there, noticed i was 3.5nm from the spot my mates picked up some Dhuies in the April demersal opening so we abruptly turned 90degrees to the left, into the swell and headed out that way.

We rocked up on site, I threw three baits over  (2 x 100gm Vexed and 1 x 50gm (4 of us onboard). As they hit the water, Claire jumped off the deck and rushed to the gunnel and started power chucking over the side.

While giving her a sympothetic pat on the back, one of the rods started flicking then it was on so the young bloke got that one. Mum was wiping her chin off and the second rod started going. I passed her a water bottle and then grabbed the other rod.

After a quick battle for me, a Dhu popped up beside the boat through the chunder plume....but i was extremely happy as it was my first keeper size (not size by the old scale but very close)

Quickly into the boat to support the young man who was having a battle with the drag getting a work out at times, and after a few moments, pops up another dhu which went just over 6kg. His first dhuie!

The cheering and shouting by me unfortunately got the attention of another boat nearby who essentially dropped just updrift from us 

Any how, we were done with two on board and commenced the punch back to GI for lunch.

Yesterday, we went out again and didnt want to go back to that spot....so headed directly west of Garden Island, aiming for the 40's where we came across some whales. I made the mistake of turning off the sounder to hope they would come close, but once they had passed, it wouldnt find bottom. After a 15 minute drive back in towards the bank for it to find bottom, we headed 180 degrees back out again to a spot which produced a couple of picks before deciding to go and take a look at the Dhu spot to take a proper look at the ground to see what i needed to look for. 

Both kids had their heads over the rail for a moment but they rapidly got distracted where, again, on the first drift, both rods went over and after a fun fight, another Dhu pops up to the surface, along with a Sargent baker.

I was content with one due to commitments in the afternoon, so we charged back into GI for lunch after taking a real good look at the ground to see what I need to look for elsewhere.....and it is near on exactly the same as what i see elsewhere but catch nothing on...

Overall, that is 6 dhuies on the boat in the last 6 months, from 4 trips. In the previous 41 years, I have had three dhuies on boats I have been on, with only 1 being size based on the old scale.

Finally, some would know that we had to say goodbye to our dog Charlie earlier this year. It absoloutely broke me for months, but we now have Navi with us, who at this point, is a 6.5 month old Kelpie who was surrended. She is a good kid on the boat, happily falls asleep, has fallen off after chasing a seagull and enjoys some Dhufish scraps...

I have someold hydropnic stuff that i would like to give away

One is a large flood and drain tank made from 3 plastic drums plastic welded together (stand not included), This worked really well and grew great herbs and veggies. Basil, coriander and tomatoes

The other is a few bits of a system called auto pot which have a self feed system controlled by a valve that works on nutrient level. I'll put pics in as best I can.

I am in the process of getting a repower on my 5mt quintrex millennium 

I am looking at a 130 yammy 4 stroke I no it's abit of an overkill but would this still work ok for the specs of my boat... as I currently running a 70 hp short leg .. 

I am going too raise and beef up the transom as this motor is a long leg 

my question is .. 

- will the boat plain ok or will the nose be out of the water at all times not allowing the boat too plain? It's only 50kg heavier then the original motor..

 Was up at Denham earlier this year for the first time and one of the days was glassy so decided to head to Turtle Bay, north of Dirk Hartog. After reading many posts it seamed the fishing there was ment to be good. We had no luck! Within the bay itself was bone dry apart from the odd NW blowie. Luckily we headed towards Dampier Reef and managed to find schools of red throat, odd spango and some small cods so we managed a feed but was somewhat disapointed. 

Has anyone had much luck in close at Turtle Bay? Maybe I should have put more time in but it was such a trek from the ramp and after an hour or so of nothing I decided change locations.

I am taking the family there next year and wondering if its worth making the trek back up that way or just head towards steep point and the west side of DHI. I have never fished the west side of DHI and would like to pop cherry fishing out there.

After not being able to get away from those near extinct pinkies last week, we thought we'd give a different area a try today.

And still we couldn't get away from them, bagging out again. Biggest keeper 77cm, several more under size and just size released.

What would have easily been the fish of the day was smashed only a couple of metres from the surface. We saw it get hit.

The bit that I got measured 48cm....

Managed to get out a couple of times last week.

Took the missus out on Tuesday, then headed out again on Thursday with my grandson and his dad in their boat.

Could NOT get away from those rare and critically endangered pink snapper on both days.

Tuesday we bagged out by 8:30, then caught and released anther 2 while cleaning the boat up, biggest went 86cm.

Thursday was much the same but took a little longer - 10:30, biggest going 87cm.

Released another that hit a bottom meat 20-30 metres from the bottom as I was winding in to pack up.

Such a shame they are almost extinct ........

Im heading down to nannup in 2 weeks as i decided to make fishing harder for myself and take up fly fishing fresh water stuff is super new to me and been doing my home work and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for that neck of the woods no honey holes just a starting point and I can start walking and figure it out as I go

 Good old reliable QUANGO Reckfishwest at it again. Their latest bulletin full iof motherhood statements & BS. Rather than challenging & demanding verification of the science concerning Demersal fish they give support to the Governments propaganda as expected.

I have absolutely no doubt that if the recreational fishing community was presented with hard evidence confirming the exact threat to Demersal fish there would be widespread support for whatever measures were needed to reverse that state.

Few if any of the regular fishing community have any faith in the veracity of the so called science being offered. Reckfishwest should be literally screaming for research details. Of course that might lead to loss of Government funding. HO hum.

Just wondering if anyone has a contact for some place I can store a car and 7m boat trailer in Exmouth? Any businesses provide this service that any one knows of?

Alternatively, how safe is it leaving the car and trailer at the Exmouth boat ramp car park for a few nights?

Usually on a Montes trip I'll leave at the Fortescue Boat 'Ramp' no worries at all, not sure on Exmouth though.

      I am buying a ford range to tow my new caravan slowly making my way up the coast from Perth and into N.T then back to Broome .

      I have 2 one piece fishing rods 4.7 meters long one is for egg beater and the other one is for a Alvey . 

      Problem with the ranger the roof rack holder are a swing out type to go acroos the car with the one on the tub slides back to give you length .

      I have been looking for away to make them theft proof  to lock on to roof rack . 

      Is there some way to do it or should I just sell rods and buy I think 4 or 3 piece same lenght .

      Hope some one out there has had the same problem up for suggestions .
