Denham Fishing
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2021-06-02 08:20Hey all.
Heading off to our long planned 10 night Denham trip with the kids and the weather forecast so far is looking farked with a few small windows so might just be me and my oldest boy heading out in the bay and braving the 10-12kn winds for a quick raid those days as he's been dreaming of this trip and fishing there for 6 months.
I've had a look at the chart and I like this area as we can belt out there and get home relatively quickly if it blows up. Am I in the ballpark for a decent area to start sounding around?
Cheers JF

Paying GST
Submitted by Bloggsy on Sun, 2021-05-30 10:21I have purchased some fishing gear from Japan and they do not include the GST which I was aware of but I just want to know how I go about paying the GST when the goods arrive. Do I pay at the Post office before the goods are released? Or do I receive some sort of notice from customs etc?

First bigTantabiddi marlin x2 - rookie mistakes! x2
Submitted by beeroclock on Sat, 2021-05-29 13:33Gday guys its pissn down with rain so thought i would put up a post about a trip i did recently. Took the wife and my voyager marquis that i have just fully refurbished and repowered with a pod extension and new 250hp 4st yammie. It was never a serious fishing trip, was more about taking the wifey away, teaching her how to drive a boat, me getting to know the boat myself, sightseeing and pulling a few lures around when possible. Went to denham first for 3 nights, i love shelter bay/steep point so took boat out there to show the mrs the place. Pulled a few deep divers around midday for an hour or so but no mackies biting, no problem just great to be there. Left denham to go to exxy for a week, dropped boat in at tantabiddi midday the next day, pulled a couple of soft grassys around in 60 - 100m for a few hours for nothing. Went out to the 250 -300m canyon area, put in the marlin skirts, trolled for about 3 hours, no strikes. I was a little surprised i didnt get a touch but it was a really dark overcast day and thought maybe thats why. A couple of days later, on a hot bright sunny and flat day we dropped boat in at tantabiddi again at midday. Out went the soft grassys in 50m of water and wife got a nice yellowfin tuna within about 15 minutes. Conditions were beautiful and flat so i decided to go out to 300 -350m, put out marlin skirts and troll south along the canyon line. About an hour later the tiagra 50 went off like i have never seen before. (lure was on long corner position). I had the tension set at about 5kg and watched at least a couple of hundred metres of line blast off the reel in the time it took me to pull in the other rod and teaser. The fish went long and deep and didnt show any sign of slowing down. I was worried about getting spooled so i lifted the drag lever to strike which i know is set at 8kg (1/3 of my 24kg main line) but it had no effect it just kept screaming off at the same speed. The wife has never driven a boat so chasing the fish with her driving was never an option. Line just kept peeling off so i upped the drag alot more, pulled rod out of holder and hung on. The fish slowed a bit, i felt violent head shakes then it took off just as fast as before. I pulled back , he let go and i fell backwards on my arse! coz i didnt expect it lucky i didnt hit my head. It all happened so quick and by now im shaking like a leaf with excitement while pulling my lure back in from hundreds of metres away. I presumed he spat the hook but when i looked at the lure BOTH stainless steel gamehooks had been bent at near on 45 degrees i couldnt believe it and wish i at least got a look at him before losing him. Out went the big skirts again, about 40minutes later i was looking at the lure to make sure it was swimmimng properly and not fouled by seaweed, right at that moment a BIG black marlin came in from the left side, grabbed the lure and jumped high up into the air. He landed, took off, drag screamed for maybe 5 seconds then gone!! just like that. Happened so quick i was still holding the wheel looking back at what just happened. When i checked the lure he had bent the botton gamehook like it was nothing. The lure is an 11inch (28cm) H2O PRO KATANA in lumo that i bought online from escapin tackle. That lure and those exact hooks landed a 60kg black marlin off steep point in 100m of water about 2 years ago (my brother caught it) and i got a nice sailfish off Helby bank in Exmouth with this lure and hooks. Because we had already caught decent fish on those hooks i thought it would be no problem using them off tantabiddi for big marlin and i guess that was my 2 rookie mistakes! (oh and also going marlin fishing with somebody who has never driven a boat ! ha ha) cheers guys, thanks for reading and i cant wait to do it again next year with stronger hooks .

Best time to target species
Submitted by Damage82 on Thu, 2021-05-27 12:06Hi guys, this has been on my mind for a while. I would be interested in compiling a list of best times of the year to target different species.
Not asking for spots or the smart ass comments of 10 o'clock on may 10th for bream but more a general month/area to target a said species.
Like Salmon around end march to april etc.
So if anyone would like to add some general information that would be great.

Warroora Station - Lagoon
Submitted by cvbass on Thu, 2021-05-27 11:39Hey all,
I'm heading up to Warroora station camping at the Lagoon for 8 nights and just wanted to see if anyone can give some advice.
What is the landbased fishing like at the Lagoon and what's the preferred method - baits, lures?
Is it possible to launch a kayak at the lagoon (I know weather dependant) and how far out is the reef?
I'm taking a 4m fishing kayak with me so planning to fish from that when possible.

Submitted by bsir on Wed, 2021-05-26 11:14
Free stuff...bitof a shed clean out, but its mostly just shots and bits. Before i throw it out, someone may want it.
Some old, some new. I think the TLD15 was on its last legs, but had a quick check today and it may have a little life in it. Would need a service. Not sure how much line is on the sppols.
All or nothing. In Wembey, Perth
Cheers.

Point Samson
Submitted by bear1952 on Sat, 2021-05-22 11:13Heading up to Point Samson in a couple of weeks. How far out should I be heading to find good fish. I have a 4.55 stacer with 60hp 4stroke. Not asking for specific spots just distances.
Oh well, that plan just got shot to bits. My brother was to come over from Melbourne to tow the boat up to Pt Samson, but COVID has put paid to that well and truly. Thanks for all the advice folks, maybe next year. Not happy !!!

Occy pipes over winter
Submitted by Greg77 on Mon, 2021-05-17 12:01I'm picking up half a dozen terracotta occy pipes today. They are hard to come by and I don't want to lose them.
If I put them in loose over a patch of seagrass in the sound, would they be likely to survive the winter? Or would they move off or get buried?
If htey are likely to move, should I rope them together, or wait until next summer?

Dirk Hartog Lodge boat fishing
Submitted by bumsy clugger on Mon, 2021-05-17 09:35Hi all,
We're heading for the lodge in July and taking a boat with us. I have never been to Dirk Hartog and was wondering what the boat fishing is like in the bay heading North from the lodge? Any chance of catching pelagics in the bay or do you need to go south round the channel to get ocean side west of the island?
Cheers, Kev

Fish at the south mole
Submitted by M.an I. L.ove F... on Sun, 2021-05-16 09:44Hey guys
first post on the site and just looking for some help regarding what these fish ive been seeing might be.
Ive been heading to the south mole recently to pick up squid for big baits for the river and been seeing heaps of 3 - 5kg fish cruising close to the rocks. ive seen them in packs of 2 or 3 and sometimes just by themselves. my best guess would be mullet but hoping they might be some early season salmon, which might explain why theyre popping up only in small packs. plus ive only ever seen mullet in schools of 10+ and never outside of the river. never bothered to have a crack at them coz the gear that i take down for squid probly wouldnt stand up to them very well. any info or opinions would be great.
Also any tips on squidding from the rock walls around freo would be awesome as i only seem to be catching the littler ones and never more than 4 every 2 hour session
thanks
