I do most of my fishing from the shore, but get out on a boat whenever the opportunity arises. Also do a fair amount of diving (swan and ocean).
Hope to enjoy the comradery of the site.

Is the state government doing enough
Submitted by Gibbsy on Fri, 2006-11-17 21:16I have been fishing for 20 years now everywhere in the state from Kununurra to Bremer Bay and have never seen a fisheries officer once I would like to think we don't need them but we all know the freezer filling mentality is still out there.

Weekend Fishing - 18/19th Nov
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-11-17 10:01Saturday: E/SE winds 10/15 knots, tending S/SW 10/15 knots by noon and increasing to 15/20 knots by mid-afternoon. Seas 1.0m to 1.5m. Swell to 1.0m.
Sunday: S/SW winds 8/13 knots, tending W/SW 13/18 knots in the afternoon
Looks like there could be the possibility of favourable boating conditions on the weekend. I hope you have some luck if you go out and make sure you're safe and are aware of strengthening wind changes in the afternoons.
Cheers,
Adam
Impact of daylight saving on fishing
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2006-11-16 11:00I haven't heard if daylight saving has gone through yet, but what's your opinion? Is it a good thing, a bad thing, gives you more time to go fishing after work? More access to peak feeding times in the afternoon?
Just throwing it out there to see what people think.

Coral Bay Boat Ramp
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2006-11-14 20:13CORAL BAY BOAT RAMP
Even the Government can't help but describe it as long-awaited - this from a press release this week:
Tenders have been called for the long awaited new boat launch facility for Coral Bay, to be built at Monck Head, 1.5km south of the town. The facilities will include a service jetty, two boat ramps and a finger jetty.
"After many reviews and consideration of a great diversity of opinion, Monck Head was chosen as the most environmentally acceptable location," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The Government has consulted widely with stakeholders, including boat users, the local community, Carnarvon Shire and relevant Government agencies and in developing the facility design."
"The Environmental Protection Authority has approved the commencement of this proposal, so it is now time to get on with the project."
Onshore facilities including an access road and 100 car and trailer parking bays. Further stages of the development will include toilet and fish cleaning facilities. Work is expected to begin early next year.

Also told that after they finish that one that Tantabiddi will be upgraded. Heading up there in May next year and wondering if they will be built by then

Fishing DVDs
Submitted by SHizz on Mon, 2006-11-13 19:06Gully ya got some competition! Just watched "Strike zone" a new dvd which has a troll cam to show how fish strike, quite interesting to watch. Learnt a few things too about there behaviour. For instance when Yellowtail kings and sambos are feeding they get that dark band across there eye to disguise where they are looking and which ends which i guess (sambos vertical, YTK horizontal band). Oh and a marlin they tagged while filming in Port Douglas was caught 3 months later in fiji! man those things can move.
Also watched Rick huckstepps How to read your sounder dvd a while back which was good, wasnt very long video(most fishin dvds arent) but i learnt a fair bit and have been meaning to adjust my sounder accordingly.
Anyone seen any other good fishin dvds recently?

Fish Kill Photos
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-11-10 14:08Hi Guys,
There has been a few big fish kill photo's published on the website lately basically to highlight the discussion thats been going on in the 'fish could be wiped out in 50 years' thread:
http://fishwrecked.com/node/4017
As moderator and owner of this website I am going to say that seeing photos like this is tragic and that I would not normally publish them on this site but feel that it is important to reinforce some of the points brought up in the thread.
Please feel free to continue adding your fishing photos, just please understand that photos of big fish kills, over bag limits - professional or recreational, won't be accepted here in future unless it supports a statement or opinion.
Cheers,
Adam

Weekend Fishing - 11/12th Nov
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-11-10 12:07Saturday: W/SW winds 15/20 knots, shifting S/SW 15/20 knots in the evening. Seas to 2.0m, easing later. Swell to 2.5m.
Sunday: SE'ly winds 8/13 knots tending S/SW 10/15 knots by noon, increasing to 18/23 knots during the afternoon.
Another average weekend forecast with the only potential to get offshore being Sunday morning unless predicitions change. Might have to go down the river for a bash to see if I can't get into a few tailor or flatties.
Hope you all have a good weekend where ever you are and be safe on the water if you decide to go fishing.
Cheers,
Adam
How to read my sounder/catch more fish
Submitted by Paul N on Thu, 2006-11-09 22:12I have been boating/fishing for years and have always had trouble reading the type of ground I am fishing on. I know if i am over a lump or on direction bank as it is quite easy to see on the sounder but how can I detect the flat coral that everyone talks about. Where is it.To me it all looks like flat sand unless I stumble accross a 4 mtr lump that screems fish here but never seems to have fish on it.Should I be looking for flat coral? if so how do i find it?
I would love some help

Sea Sweep
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2006-11-09 13:40Has any one caught and kept sea sweep for the dinner table before? I caught two yesterday and released one and have just finished eating a fillet and was quite impressed. It was actually a lot less fishier tasting and better textured flesh than the skippy I got. Any one caught a fish they thought would taste terrible but got a pleasant suprise at the dinner table?

Perth Sharks
Submitted by Ewan on Mon, 2006-11-06 15:29I've been thinking about big noahs off Perth - i read in a post the other day that some guys who capsized and paddled into shore were looked at by a white off City Beach.
Has anyone ever had a hooked fish taken by a noah in metro waters, two rocks, mandurah, etc? Not just by big ones like whites, but by any sharks at all?
Or ever heard of it?
What about spearos - anyone ever heard of sharks coming round to speared fish?
Maybe I'd rather not know... ;o)

Weekend Fishing - 4-5th November
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-11-03 10:12Saturday: E/SE winds 18/23 knots tending S/SE 18/23 knots in the afternoon. Seas 1.0m to 1.5m. Swell to 3.0m.
Sunday: E/SE winds 20/30 knots tending S/SE 20/30 knots in the afternoon.
A blowy forecast for the weekend will make it difficult to get offshore, unless the weatherman has got it wrong again. The river is a good option at the moment, heard of many reports that theres a good run of tailor in there, with some decent fish amongst them. Would love to see a few photos to confirm the reports.
Hope you all have a good weekend and the weather conditions are more favourable for the part of the world that you are in.
Cheers,
Adam
