The Seabreacher X, co-created by Rob Innes and Dan Piazza, is the ultimate millionaire's boy-toy: a James Bond-style craft that can dive under water, roll from side to side and jump 12ft into the air.

It looks like a great white shark, complete with dorsal fin, gaping jaws and rows of dagger-sharp teeth. At 16.5ft in length, it is even the same size as one.   However, it has a 260hp engine, which powers it to 50mph above water, and 20mph below it.

Rob, 37, is a watersports fanatic and with Dan 52, he has turned his hobby into a thriving business.  The pair built their first submersible 12 years ago and today their company, Innespace, has a year-long waiting list of rich adrenaline-junkies eager to buy one of their custom-built playthings.   Toys they may be but each one costs about $Aud170,000.

'This isn't a submarine, it's more of a cross between a plane and a boat, and we've been improving the models constantly so they can do more and more tricks.'

Seabreacher X is a snug two-seater. So Rob and I squeeze in and leave Dan on the shore, clutching a contact radio.

Then we're off  -  skimming at high speed across the water. We roll 90 degrees to the right, then the left.  I wouldn't recommend it to those with sea sickness, but it is exhilarating  -  I'm just glad that a 360-degree roll is out of the question. For now.   'The next one we're building should allow us to roll a lot quicker,' says Rob cheerfully. 'we're also trying to get those barrel 360-degree rolls sorted.'

Operating the submersible is fairly easy, 'although you do need to have good spatial awareness. Unlike a boat where you have left and right, fast and slow, this is more like an aircraft. You have to think about pitch, roll and yaw.'   He pushes forward on the boat's joystick, we plunge a couple of feet under the water  -  the craft can remain submerged for 20 seconds  -  and for a moment we are enveloped by a watery blanket of silence.

But we don't stay under water for long. After gaining a bit of speed, Rob pulls back on the controls and we burst out of the water into the open air. I experience a rush as we shoot out of the water like a cork popping out of a champagne bottle. 

The downside comes when we hit the surface with a jarring thud.

There is, says Rob, 'a little timing involved' in perfecting the manoeuvre, which he performs a number of times. Each time he promises we won't go too high, only for us to fly more than 10ft into the air.

Rob and Dan are even working on a model which will be able to perform turns in mid-air and back flips.

The sight of the seabreacher emerging from the waves, foam crashing around its fins, is truly impressive. Whenever it or one of its submersible siblings  -  there is also a Seabreacher J, shaped like a dolphin  -  makes a public appearance, it always attracts a crowd.

Each machine takes a team of seven people three months to build. And when you consider that this is just the ninth Seabreacher to be built by Innespace  -  and they have a further 31 on order  -  you realise how much time and energy they are devoting to their rather eccentric enterprise.

'We're not interested in making a mass-market product,' says Rob, 'just one-off pieces that we customise for each buyer.'  They recently custom-made one for a client in Dubai, for example, who wanted it with air conditioning.

As well as a stereo system, the Seabreacher Rob takes me out in is also fitted with a camera and  -  should the passenger get bored  -  a screen that allows them to play videogames.

So just how long does it take to master the controls of an artificial shark? While it is more difficult to drive than a conventional pleasure cruiser, Rob insists he can teach someone the basics in just three to four hours.   A U.S. Navy research officer has visited Innespace's California base to inspect their designs.

'We'd eventually love to race them as a sport  -  but with the boats costing around $170,000, they're not something people can really afford to destroy.

If you could buy one of these reels for the same price, why would you choose the smaller reel, considering the 10000  is only 11g heavier,

but holds one and a half times equivalent line capacitiy.

Then we go into 8000SWPG, I imagine that is for jigging only ?

hey all

we have just taken on hearty rise and eurpo rods, we have recieved a good selection from jig to casting rods, we also have an egi rod in stock. So pop in and check them out.

Looking at buying a spinning reel and a rod for mainly demersal jigging with jigs up to around 150 grams. I also want to use it for SP's and maybe casting a stick bait for a tuna. My budget is around $1500 for rod and reel.

Any advice on what to get and where to buy would be great. Not bothered buying locally or OS.

A giant carp that eluded fishermen in Britain for decades has been found dead.

The mirror carp, called 'Two Tone' was nicknamed "the marriage wrecker" and was blamed for the breakdown of four marriages as anglers devoted years to its capture.

The 45-year-old fish was found floating in Conningbrook Lake in Kent, south-east of London, and is believed to have died of old age.

Anglers across Britain are sending in tributes to the fish, which will be given a funeral next to the lake on Sunday.

Two Tone set a new record weight for a British carp when it was caught in 2001 and was caught another six times in the next seven years, with its weight peaking at 67 pounds (30kg) on capture in 2008.

"A couple of anglers called to say they'd seen a big carp floating dead on the surface which they thought might be Two Tone, so my son and I went straight over to investigate. Sure enough it was the old boy - I was gutted," Conningbrook fisheries manager Chris Logsdon told Britain's Angling Times magazine.

"He'd had a hard winter followed by a tough spring, but there wasn't a blemish on him - no scars, ulcers or any other sign of damage. He was just old.

"It's very sad, the end of an era, because Two Tone was part of carp fishing history. He was stocked into the lake at 12 pounds in 1982 and no English fish came close to toppling his record from 2001 onwards."

With summer and shark season coming im upgrading my heavy beach stuff. I cant remember the name of the braid I used as backing last time, but it was cheap and its getting old so its time to invest in some new stuff.

Im looking for a 350-500m spool of 50lb braid, since i dont fish much with braid except as backing I have no idea of the different brands and their qualities. I realise there are a heap of factors to consider and I have done a search but still looking for a bit more direction.

Casting wont be an issue as its backing, knot strenth is important (if this varies between brands?) as the join to the mono will be going through the eyes under pressure. Small diameter would be good to get more line on but really this has to be balanced with abrasion resistance, in case of heavy sea weed. Colour retention is not an issue lol, but I would like it to last a couple of years.

Budget is maybe 150 bucks, but flexible cuz i have no idea

Might be asking a lot, but im pretty lost on this decision so any help appreciated.

I was lucky enough to be invited along to the Rise Fly Fishing Film Festival last night, hosted by Fly Fishing nut, and Film guru Nick Raygaert. It featured previews for an amazing looking film called "Off the Grid", and another film called "Heads or Tails" by local fisho and ex Hotbite writer Phil Jagger. Phils first film focuses around catching Permit on fly in Broome, and features some local fishos scrambling along the beaches chasing flighty schools of Permit, and some incredible footage of Permit taking dry flies of the surface near the broome jetty. I ended up buying this DVD, and its a great watch!!

The main feature of the night was Nick Reygaert latest instalment in "The Source" series, this one, "The Source - New Zealand". All i can say is WOW! The breathtaking New Zealand scenery cannot be described in words, and the HD footage he has captured is absolutely breathtaking!! The fishing is amazing as well, and he follows four styles of fisho in Adventurers, Locals, Trophy Hunters and one other that escapes me at the moment. I've never been into fly fishing personally, but some of the scenes in this flick make you want to "fly" out the door, grab a wand, and head off to the fresh looking for the nearest Trout of any description..

Amazing stuff, and if you see it on the shelf, i highly reccomend a viewing, even if just for the scenery. Nick also showed a sneak peek of his upcoming, and last Source flick, "The Source - Iceland", and it looks like more of the same breathtaking footage, lookout for that one.

Locals is a bit tight as to where to throw a line seems a bit hostile towards people from WA.

Hey all,

whilst fishing on saturday had an old bloke who said hes been a local for nearly all his life. he started telling me a story, but i dont know if it is true, it sounds convincing though. Anyways the story is that at hillarys marina north wall you can see some big antenna and lights well aparrently there is a drain that comes all the way from ballajura (spelling) that pumps dirty polluted water into the area. When building the pipe they were meant to extend the pipe all the way past little island where the current would move it away, though the only made it 200m long. He was also saying that the water they were pumping out contained a high percentage of nitrogen and that this changes the fish that live around the area as well as making all that cabbage weed on the rocks.There was also another drain built by ocean reef harbour that was meant to be the same as hillarys and extend 2km out but they cut it short 200m making it 1.8km and this making the the polluted water staying in the area and not being swept out.

But what i found most intresting about the story is that the man telling the story said he always loves his crayfish and is always targetting them by diving and pots. what he was saying is that all the crayfish between Two rocks south to Trigg (I think) have a unique black spot on their back.

Just wanting to know everyones opinion, as i find this story very convincing.

Has anyone been out to the new Alkimos water treatment outlet ? It is approx 2ms straight out from Romeo Road West. Lots of limestone on a new pipeline, the tailor there from the beach are nice and hungry. I have not taken the tinny out there...Yet....but I think the structure should be good. I have no idea what they are pumping out from it ....if anything as yet....probably nothing good.  When it was being built there were some good Mulloway caught there. PM me for directions if needed. If nothing else I reckon it will be crowded with crayfish thanks to the limestone.

Can anyone educate me on tagging fish? What I was thinking is the following. I go out fishing and I release a lot of fish. Is there any sence in tagging the fish after measuring weighing and taking a picture for identification. Might as well do that whilst busy fishing so more info can be gathered in case someone else catches the same fish some time later.  Can anyone tag fish, where do we get tags etc. etc. ?

Just thinkin its time for a new reel and am having a bit of trouble choosing between these 2 quite beautiful reels :). The last image is me trying to see the difference between the two at work + having a little too much free time!

well to do a first, i decided it was only going to be two of us out today(normaly three) definatly better with two.

the plan looked good, weather looked good and we were off.

left woodys at 6.15am and headed straight out to 60mtr, first problem my navman gps would not aqq sats, oh well i have the hds10 now, so split the screen and all good, power on.

the water was supposed to be nice and flat, it was as rough as guts out there when we got pass the island, then transfering of gps spots to the 10 was a pain in the but.

for the first cople of hours, nothing,nil,f/all, not even a wrasse, and all i could think of was a disscussion with steve (moon and tides were wrong) shit fishing.

but then someboydy must of felt sorry for us because every thing started to work, gps fired up, wind was dropping and my mate had just pulled up our first fish, under size snapper, back he went.

then ever thing started goming over the side,  large b/b, a couple of huge rock cod, another under snapper, i got a jew that was mms under(that is four under size jews in two outings now, the big one is coming) so back he went as well, we were catching fish but as usal we wanted bigger.

then it got better again, my mate line went of in a hurry and 5 min later a 92cm queeny on the floor of the boat, then i pull in a 45cm red snapper, another under size pinky.

then my line screams, iam getting excited and theres some yahoos going on until the 1mtr long sambo comes over the side and the yahoos turn to yah only.

all the fish come from 1 spot after we had tried many spots for the day, it was a spot i dint think much of, fairly flat, with only 1 sign of fish on the sounder.

just goes to show you just never know.

except for the early part of the day, it has been our best day ou for a while.

i hope my dogs are happy with there sambo tonight.
