Rail mount rod holders

Hey guys, I am getting rails on my new boat and need some advice regarding stainless, rail mounted rod holders.

I saw the system that Paul Worsteling had on the stabicraft, in the I Fish series, and was wondering if any of you blokes had a similar or alternate idea.

Extra northern metro meeting on demersal catch allocations Thursday 12th

Recreational fishers in Perth’s northern suburbs will have a chance to be briefed and provide feedback, on catch share allocations for West Coast demersal scalefish, at an additional metropolitan meeting this Thursday.

The Integrated Fisheries Allocation Advisory Committee (IFAAC) has developed recommendations on sharing these valuable community resources.

Due to public demand, Recfishwest is chairing an extra meeting to provide feedback to the independent advisory committee on its draft allocation report.

This week’s public meeting will be held at the Department of Fisheries complex at 39 Northside Drive Hillarys from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursday (12 August 2010).

The issues are complex and interested parties are urged to attend the meeting. There will be time for questions to be answered.

WA’s West Coast Bioregion extends from north of Kalbarri to east of Augusta and there are about 200 species, including some of the State’s most iconic finfish, which are subject to a range of management rules to ensure sustainability of the stocks.

Meetings have already been held in the metropolitan area and regional centres in the bioregion to discuss how IFAAC has proposed to allocate species, such as dhufish, pink snapper and baldchin groper, between the commercial and recreational fishing sectors.

The WA Fishing Industry Council has the task of conducting separate meetings for the commercial sector, to seek their input on the proposed allocation.

IFAAC has proposed two-thirds of the resource be allocated to the commercial sector and one third to recreational fishers.

There are additional recommendations to ensure the dhufish take does not increase beyond historical proportions for the sectors.

The committee is inviting interested parties to take the opportunity to lodge formal responses by 30 September 2010.

Copies of the consultation paper (Integrated Fisheries Management Draft Allocation Report – West Coast Demersal Scalefish – FMP 237) will be available at Thursday's meeting, or it can be downloaded from Fisheries’ website at www.fish.wa.gov.au. Look for the Integrated Fisheries Management tab on the home page menu.

***URGENT*** suzuki vs mercury

all,

with the boat show in full swing, i have narrowed down my engine choice to 2 dealers, that have both come in for around the same price (for a new 115hp 4 stroke)

what i need to know is, who has owned a suzuki 4 stroke, AND/OR a mercury 4 stroke, and the pros and cons of each.

i dont want to hear how good someones honda, etec, mariner, yammy, johnson, etc, is, as they are not an option for me now. I know this has been covered on the forums before, and i have searched the topics here, and on other sites, but none are specific to these 2 motors only.

i would like opinions asap, as i want to wrap it up today or tommorrow.

cheers in advance.

Your Fishing Dream?

My idea fishing dream if i won lotto would be popping for GTs and Tuna using and buying cheapish gear(0-$250) and pushing it to its limits and try to land the fish of a lifetime, i have more fun watching the gear explode(hopefully no injuries Laughing), as you might gathered im a person who doesnt believe in speding big $$$ to catch fish, it should be all about fun. WHATS YOUR FISHING DREAM???

Cheers

Replacing trebles with a single hook - looking for hook suggestions

After having several tailor throw my Richter plug recently, I am going to replace all the trebles with a single hook set-up.

Can anyone suggest a preference for the hooks I should replace them with, or a different hook set-up?

Will taking the trebles off effect the balance of the lure?

Many thanks,
Colin Hay

Catching Mullet

Hey guys ive been tying to catch some mullet around ocean reef but getting no results. Anyone got some advice for me eg. bait, rigs, spots, time. you guys could really help me out with this.

Gnaraloo

Heading to Gnaraloo Friday and hopefully fishing sunday. Have just checked Seabreeze and the swell forecast for Friday is 5.6m WTF. That would have to be the biggest swell I've seen on there it tops out at 6m. I spoke to a guy who fished in a 4m swell and reckons he swallowed his heart everytime the boat went into the trough. Just wondering what the the are the worst seas anyone has fished in? I know even a 3m swell can be a hairy proposition....

Exmouth fishing in January

Hey guys,

A couple of us were thinking of planning a fishing trip next jan to exmouth...i havent really been able to find much on what the fishing is like up there at that time of the year so i was wondering if any of the resident exmouth experts would be able to help us out!

As far as i'm aware the weather will be fairly hit+miss with glassed off days and pretty windy days, but what fish can we hope/expect to target in January? We'd love to try a bit of everything - trolling, bottom fishing, landbased, and popping...ideally we'd love to get some big macks, bottom fish, sharks, GT's and Sailfish - we dont ask for much!

We were thinking of trying around the Murion Islands either with a charter or with a hire boat...would that be the way to go?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Justin

Poppers versus Richter Plugs

Just trying to gather some information. What are your thoughts on using poppers and richter plugs? When do you switch from one to another? Have you found certain conditions suit one over the other? Do certain species prefer one over the other?

Deep Cave Diving

These spectacular images are a testament to the cave-diving expertise and sheer fearlessness of diver Martyn Farr.

In an incredible new feat Martyn will join an international team next month for a jaw-dropping world record attempt - the longest ever cave penetration.

Martyn plans to record on camera the progress of a team made up of some world's most renowned cave divers as they attempt to delve further into the Pozo Azul cave, near Burgos, Spain, than anyone has ever been before.

Dicing with death every day, 59 year-old Martyn throws himself into some of the most extreme conditions on the planet and  plunges into uncharted icy cold water, underground, underwater and ALONE.

A death-defying career in the sport spanning nearly 40 years has taken him to every corner of the globe and seen him shattering record after record along the way.

Live Bait Esky

Chasing any members experiences with converting an esky into a live bait well, I am aware of some kits available to do this but pros and cons are always helpful. Just looking to add a different dimension every now and again so not keen on plumbing one into the boat hence the portable option of an esky appeals.

Cheers in advance,

Lamby

GT Popping Rods

It's time for a new rod. I'm now GT popping rodless.

Any recommendations?

It needs to be able to work poppers from 125g up to 180g, although, majority of poppers I'll be casting will be in the 125 to 150g range. It also needs stick bait abilities. Most stick baits I'll be working will range from 150-180g.

It needs to run minimum PE8 - coupled to 18000/20000 stella.

The rod will be used boat based but I'd prefer to have a rod closer to 8 foot in length.

So far I'm leaning towards the Hots Gipang 79XH.

Appreciate some suggestions.

Kimberley - travelling light best five lures

Hey guys - am about to embark on a trip around the Kimberleys in a boat but am limited (greatly) to the weight of baggage to a measily 10kg ............there is reasonable gear on the boat but what are the FIVE (or six or seven 'cos they are light) best lures you would carry with you to target barra and jacks in some of the remote creeks around the archipeligo.

Preferably hard bodies as soft plastics require the lead heads which quickly add up weight wise

Any help would be much appreciated
