Submitted by bagafillets on Wed, 2010-09-01 19:14Hi all
I just bought myself a Saltiga Bay Jigging rod. I ordered the rod with the model number SG BJ64XHS It says on the Daiwa website its rated too 7kg max drag i got the rod today and it reads Best drag 1.6kg -1.9kg 20LB line rated and 150g lure weight on it. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing as i have looked for more specs on the rod and unable to find any. Its a bit confusing. Any help would be much appreciated.

recfishwest submission
Submitted by lurcha on Wed, 2010-09-01 16:42just got a email from recfish west containing Recfishwest’s draft submission to the Integrated Fisheries Allocation Advisory Committee – Draft Allocation Report West Coast Demersal Scalefish Fishery.
its based on the issues raised at the public meetings. Its a bit big to post here so anyone who wants to have a read pm me your email and i'll forward it to you.
search button
Submitted by ruste13 on Wed, 2010-09-01 11:17there is one.
Using it when interesded in a topic would save a lot of re-hashed threads and people will find better info and answers in questions that have already been answered fully, rather than asking the same thing every week, Then if you have more to add you can add to the existing one which in the long run will make for a better resource.
lots of threads looks great, but it makes for crap reading, and makes searching for good responses on topics harder later. I reckon the mods need to highlight this a bit more.
Feel free to dissagree, this is only my opinion.

jigging rod lengths
Submitted by fishfish on Wed, 2010-09-01 06:51A question to all you jiggers out there, What are advantages and disadvantages to having a jigging rod longer than the traditional 5- 5'3 length ????
I'm getting a rod built up shortly {450g based} but the blank only comes in one length 5'8 which is not a problem as these blanks can be cut from the butt to suit without effecting the action .....
Other than mechanical leverage are there any other disadvantages to a longer rod. It also seems that the longer rods are suited to the lighter gram jig weights that require a longer slower action ????
Also one other thing, is the grip placement and reel seat placement personal choice ie longer or shorter arms / body height ??? Or does the rod action play a part in the design ie fulcrum points ????
Cheers fishfish .....

Baitcatser vs spining fo inshore plastics
Submitted by MiSh on Tue, 2010-08-31 18:27Looking at getting new 3-6kilo outfit for plastics. fish under 20m of water for snaps, dhu, skippy .
Always fished with spining reels for any lure work (sol, segate) but after reading many reveiw on tackle tour have been seriously considering getting a baitcaster.
So far i really like the look of the revo toro, and on the spining side a 3000 sized luvias, bradia,
Before everyone jumps on and tells me what they use and how great it is. I was woundering if there is anyone out there who uses/used both and can explain why one is better than the other.
I know most wa lure fishos use spining reels but in the USA baitcasters are the mainstay.
Are we behind the 8ball over here or are they?

Broome boating facility proposal released
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2010-08-31 16:00The Liberal-National Government is delivering on its $35million commitment to enhance Broome’s boating infrastructure.
Transport Minister Simon O’Brien and Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today formally released the facility’s blueprint to the public.
Mr O’Brien said the new boating infrastructure project, to be located in West Roebuck Bay, would meet the needs of the small craft fleet in Broome.
“The proposed facility is planned to include a major boat-launching ramp, an offshore sheltering breakwater, dredged basin and a floating jetty,” Mr O'Brien said.
“The breakwater will ensure the ramp can be used in most normal wind conditions and, being adjacent to the existing port’s boat repair area, will provide access for wheeled jinkers for the retrieval of bigger boats in the event of a cyclone.”
Mr Grylls welcomed the next stage of the Royalties for Regions’ funded process, saying it was a significant step forward in delivering improved boating facilities to Broome.
“It is important that we continue to invest in regional areas. Every dollar spent has numerous positive flow on effects, from supporting jobs, to, in the case of this project, providing enhanced boating facilities for locals and tourists alike,” Mr Grylls said.
Project managers, the Department of Transport, anticipate tenders for construction could be called in late 2011, following successful investigation, design and approval phases.
Initial feedback will be provided by a recently formed working group, with further community comment to be sought in the coming month.
The report is available from http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/broomeboatingfacility or by contacting that Department of Transport on 9216 8875.

Laugh at yourself - Not as much off an expert as I thought
Submitted by crasny1 on Tue, 2010-08-31 09:17Now you have to laugh. I have been fishing since I was 4yo, and I have never read any "distructions" on how to use any new reel etc that I have bought. Just stick it on and off you go.
Took my new Saltist lever drag out and hooked into a mackie, and then started to criticise the hell out of Diawa (Normally a Shimano addict). "Bloody thing has no drag, piece of sh#t, give me back the Shimano TLD etc"
Needless to say I packed up the boat and looked at the saltist with disgust once home. Luckily for me it needed some new string, and I couldnt figure out why the drag was so light, only to discover to my embarrasment that I hadnt even seen the drag knob in my haste to use it, I only used the lever.
After some quite contemplation decided to tell the "boss" about this and then had a lot of Sh#t heaped at me for not reading, getting with the times etc, and for being a stupid fool.
Now the saltist is my newe best friend with a fantastic drag etc.
Just shows you that even though I have fished for years I am still a dill, and not an "expert" at anything.
Just have to laugh at yourself.
Has anyone else had silly embarrashing things like this happen to them.

Braid Question
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2010-08-30 16:13Hey guys, buying a new Stella for barra fishing this season and was looking at the '10 C3000HG. The only problem is the braid I want to use (PE1.5 Avani Sea Bass Max Power) I can only find in 150m spools and the line cap of the reel is 270m of PE1.5 and I don't really want to put backing on. Hunted high and low and wondering if there's any good quality 8 braid type PE1.5 20lb braid available in 300m spools? If not I may just get the 2500 which is the same reel just less line capacity (160m of PE1.5).

Havent Learnt
Submitted by Kingfisher549 on Mon, 2010-08-30 14:02Fished the same area on saturday that I fished one month ago and on the first drop Shirley pulled up a Dhuie we had tagged and released one month earlier. The Dhie was caught in 33m of water and was released the second time in as good as condition as the first time. We moved in close to 20m and caught and released another six Dhuies with tags before keeping the last fish of the day that went 9kgs.
On the day the tagged fish was first caught another three Dhies were tagged in the same location.
It will be interesting to see over the coming months and years if I continue to catch the same fish in the same locations.
Was interesting back at the ramp when I was talking to the Fisheries, one of the boys asked how the day went and when I explained excitedly that I had caught a fish with a tag from a month ago he stated, "Who are you tagging the fish for" after showing him the Fisheries symbol at the top of the tag record page he climbed down from the boat red faced.
