.

.

So who else is over the 30 degree plus days?

I work outside and im over it. And it doesnt look like its letting up anytime soon either.

Monte's info

Up in Ktown at the moment for work for 3 days.

One of the blokes i work with said to me 'long weekend in 2 weeks, interested in coming up for a 3 day trip to the monte's...

My obviuos respone was.. HELL YES..............but need to check with the wife first :) (big year on the fishing trips for me!!)

Anyhow just chasing a little info of the place, we have never been there and taking a 25ft glass console over.
Anyone able to advise a good bay to stay in? we will be in swags for the 3 days.

Ive heard you can no longer buy fuel over there??? anyone able to confirm if this is now the case?

And lastly fishing, As we've not done any fishing in that direction. Any info on general direction and area would be appreciated. Is it quite easy to navigate following GPS charts?
Mainly want to chase trout, on plastics and lures along with some mackies and maybe some GT's however i dont think ive get big enough gear to take on the big buggers Brad gets out there!!!
Are we best to pick a location for camp, and just return to the same location, or move about?

Is it worth hanging in close to the islands to target bottom species? ie: trout, Rankin, Reds?

Thanks guys.

19 minutes 21 seconds - world record for underwater freedive

A Swiss diver has broken the world record for holding his breath underwater - for 19 minutes and 21 seconds.

Freediver
Peter Colat, 38, said the first 12 minutes without air were 'no
problem' after plunging into a water tank at a holiday fair in St
Gallen, Switzerland.

Mr Colat smashed the previous record held by Italian Nicola Putignano by 19 seconds.

Under
the rules for so-called 'static apnea' laid down by the Guinness World
Records, Mr Colat was allowed to breath pure oxygen for ten minutes
before the feat yesterday.

He said afterwards: 'The first 12
minutes were not a problem and I felt the first need to breathe very
late, but because of this it was even stronger.'

According to the British Freediving Association, participants must
'enter a very relaxed state so as to minimise oxygen consumption.'

Switzerland's Peter Colat during his successful attempt to break the Guinness World Record for static apnea

Breathless: Under the rules of the record, Peter Colat was permitted to breathe pure oxygen for ten minutes before the feat

It
adds that: 'Eventually, the store of oxygen will reduce to critical
levels, resulting in hypoxia, and possibly black-out if the freediver
fails to listen to his body or ignores what he hears.'

Deckie wanted Thursday

Looking at heading out Thursday am for a fish, leaving woodmans point boat ramp. I haven’t been out for some time but usually head out past the 5 fathom to the 40m mark then work my way back in. Don’t have any killer spots but have usually found some ground. I usually bottom bash but would be open to any suggestions. Pm me if you are interested. At this stage seabreeze isn’t looking too bad. I have a 4.85 trailcraft which fishes 2 people very comfortably. Regards Brad.

happy days off the cape

great day out with seaquest,

bagged out within minutes of dhuies then went exploring the deeper waters, 120m+ , and found some snapper, nanny,s awesome day

fantastic new plastics

just seen the new mccarthy range of soft plastics in local tackle store along with some more from another mob called wave worms

WOW they look freakin awesome (better looking than the atomics and snappy's)

both look to be the snapback type material as opposed to the gulp and slam stuff

dunno about you but i'm sick to death of opening a pack of those , only to have that smelly oily crap leak all over my tackle and then have them dry out in no time while in the packet.

will be giving them a go next plastics session (hopefully at the fads) Laughing

Totally Irrelevant but I've been drinkin

Catching Sharks From The Beach

Gday,

I have noticed a few of u guys have been catching some sharks from the beaches north of the river (I live near Wanneroo)

Can any of you advise me on your choice of rig/bait and your best locations ?

Cheers

North mole tonight

Hey guys, im thinking of going for a fish at north mole tonight and was wondering if the tailor are still biting and if there are any good catches coming from there of late?

Cheers.

In reply to Adam G's - 'What do you lot do to earn a crust ?'

Gday Fishers,

Ive just got back from SUNNY (bloody cold) England on family holi with the wife and my 2yr old boy (shouldve gone to Steep Point but u gotta keep em happy) FYI our coast from 30,000 feet in the air is fantastic, i will try to load some pics i took of Shark Bay.

Anyway I work for Solahart Wanneroo/Joondalup as a Sales/Service Consultant (I installed and serviced solar hot water systems for nearly 20yrs and I was taught the ropes by my Dad who has been with Solahart for nearly 40yrs now - we always fish together).

If anyone needs any help or advice on a hot water system of any kind (I have contacts in all areas - plumbers, sparky's etc...) I dont even charge to come out to properties to advise on your situation.

But I love fishing and always will - 'A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work'

P.S. SOLAHART - Still made in WA.

hey Andy Mac

Are you on 720 AM again today?

Best 4WD for driving on beaches

As an offshoot from Jay's post regarding 4WD's and boats, I am wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best 4WD drives for driving on the sand.

I have had a bit of a look around and I am quite keen on the 100 series Landcruisers, Troupies and the Landrover Defenders.

I am also interested in what people's opinions are on the Landrover Discovery. You can pick them up pretty cheap.

I am not after a fancy vehicle, more of a basher that I can take to places like Flat Rocks without having to worry if it gets a few scratches.

PS, I won't be towing a boat, so towing capacity is not an issue.

Many thanks, Colin Hay

braid?

im gonna make the swap over to braid soon but im lost at the amount of lines out there on the market. what would be the best value for money braid out there? also are the knots used for braid any different from that of mono?

also i did some research about how some braids are flatter in profile and how some are rounder. how does this affect its performance?

Penn 950 drag problems

Hey all,

I've had my Penn 950ssm about 6 months and fished it pretty hard rigged with 40lb mono. Has served me well but recently the drag has started having problems. Under heavy drag pressure the spool lets out a few turns before seizing up momentarily then letting out a few more turns before seizing up again and so on. With light drag its smooth as but is now very jerky when under pressure. I have rinsed it thoroughly after every fish and left the drag loose when not in use.

Any ideas what is going wrong or what I can do to fix it?

Cheers,
Adam

banana's on board

hey guys

how superstituous are you?

i went on a charter in sydney and the skipper had taken banana's along for a snack, he said it was rubbish , and we caught a good haul that day.

i went out on sunday and the deckie brings 2 bananas along.  end result of the day - bits and pieces fishwise  , he throws my rod that he was using ,in the drink , and i snap another expensive new rod , re catching the rod he'd just thrown in.

fuel used $70

rod cost $280

service for dunked reel $ 40

minus $90 from deckie for fuel and reel service

$300 for 1 squid in the esky. (it had better be good)

i'm banning them from now on and getting a rabbits foot too.

Going to Thevenard

Hey, super keen. Just booked and paid for my trip to Thevenard Island in september. Does anybody have any tips for a newbie like me? Thinking of baitcasting mulies out the back of the dinghy that we hired. Should be great fun just spending a week on the island, and a few fish would be a bonus... any advise would be fantastic. Thanks guys.

Exmouth Gear Suggestions

Gday All,

Will be up in Exmouth around May and was hoping to get some suggestions for a heavier spinning combo.

Will be used for chucking poppers etc in the shallows around the islands etc.

Was thinking the upgraded Spheros with a decent rod.

Budget is around $600-$800 so I cant get a dogfight :( lol

I wont be specifically targeting huge GTs and dont think I could on that budget but wouldnt mind using it to have a crack at the smaller ones and whatever else is lurking around them.

Cheers in advance mate.

Surprise Deep Sea Fishing Trip – Saturday

There I was getting all my fishing gear ready on Friday night. I spent about two hours working out our plan of attack for 5am Saturday morning in the tinny off Hillarys somewhere. The plan was for my wife, my two brothers and myself to go out together.

When we arrived at Hillarys at 5am, my brother Joe hadn't arrived yet. So we parked in the free parking near the mini golf. My brother Matt and my wife Kelly went for a walk down to the boat ramp to see if he had arrived. They were gone about half an hour.

When they got back all three of them were together. As I was getting all the gear out of the car, they said you won't need any of that. I said why? Joe says I bought new gear. I said what about the bait and burley? He says you can bring it if you want. I said what about my lures? He says you won't need those. So now I'm thinking something fishy is going on (pardon the pun). My wife says SURPRISE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU'RE GOING OUT DEEP SEA FISHING FOR THE DAY WITH MATT AND JOE. I was in shock. I couldn't comprehend what was happening at 5.30 in the morning. My wife had planned and paid for us blokes to go out on Mills Charters for the day. Wahooooooo! What an awesome wife!

Shocked and dazed we waited until 6.30 to board. Upon boarding we were fed with bacon and egg burgers. Excellent burley for those that got sick.

It was going to be a great day. Not much wind or swell and the ocean was looking a beautiful deep blue. We headed out for about an hour and ten in a North West direction.

When we arrived we dropped our lines and we were on the way. We were in about 45m. Someone further down pulled up a double header. Two Dewies. Slightly undersize so were thrown back. A few minutes later another couple of double headers, two Dewies again. One thumper and one undersize. Before I new it I was on. Wasn't quite sure what. It felt a bit light. Up came a massive Flathead. A PB. 62cm. What a thumper. The guys said what the hell is a flathead doing out here. Nice work!

After that we moved on. Eventually we made our way into 95m. Now the action was on. It was hard to keep track of what everyone else was catching. Until someone slowly reeled in a 30kg Sambo (the guys quickly released it). This thing was a fat bastard.

Matt was on next. Up he pulls a Blackarse. Not bad. Around 50cm. He was stoked. He wasn't going home hungry.

Next was Joe. In he reels a little skippy. Not happy. Back in he goes.

I was on again. Pulled up a beautiful looking Baldy, 55cm. Then up came a Pinky. Slightly under so back she went.

Had to wait for a while before I managed to pull in a 45cm Skippy.

Meanwhile Joe had to wait and be patient until the last half hour of the day until he got some action. And action he got. A 74cm KG. No way! This thing fed his whole family. Never seen a KG this big before.

Not long after that he reeled up a beautiful blue Queenie about 60cm. Then a Pinky (slightly undersize) and another Skippy.

After that it was time to pull up and head home. Sank a few beers and talked about the ones that got away and the ones that didn't.

What a way to break my cherry. Never been out that far before. Now I'm hooked (sorry another pun).

It was hard to take photos at the time but I managed to get a few to share.

What a day, what an experience, what a wife!

Snoring Man Sets Bed On Fire

This was the event that made the snorebond snoring clinic in Bodmin sit up and take notice. Luis Fairman the technical director of snorebond.com relates the odd incident.

Homemade anti-snoring device!'Yes, snoring was Peter’s problem and we solved it in our usual way but it was his own homemade machine that made us laugh and believe me we thought we had seen it all in the past 30 years! Peter had somehow come to the conclusion that a midnight smoke would be a good way to cure snoring and had invented a machine that would light a cigarette in his sleep automatically for him'.

Peter's long suffering wife Susan takes up the story;

'He is always coming up with these stupid inventions, I thought that when he nearly strangled the cat with his automatic cat flap it was bad enough, but this took the biscuit. I was sleeping peacefully when an enormous snore woke me like a shot and not only was I confronted with the noise of an express train, but a smoking duvet! Luckily I had a jug of water next to my bed and tipped it over him but even that didn’t wake him!'

Luis from snorebond says that Peter’s invention is now in their museum of snoring artefacts in Bodmin.

'There is not a lot new in anti snoring devices' says Luis. 'We have now developed a new device that is as small and as light as possible and combined with clinically proven techniques which you can view on our website snorebond.com, you should be able to cure your snoring problem without having to resort to something as extreme as this. We have heard quite a few stories over the past 30 years but this has been by far the best!'

Exmouth Navy Pier Cam

Came across something interesting while surfing the net the other night.

http://ilqtss.curtin.edu.au:8080/1/webcam.html

Really exhibits a wide range of species, gets ya hooked!

my first grey band cod

went fishing with frank yesterday ,we caught a few undersize snapper,1 keeper snapper by frank, aswell as a greeneye shark,an undersize dhuie that was released with the undersize snapper and finally my first grey band cod,not the biggest but a keeper

2nd graphite rod snapped.

bloody pi$$ed off.

snappped my deep jig 200 today , striking at a bite.(capturing the line on my other rod that was making its way to the bottom , bad day)

i'd got hooked up twice on botttom with this rod last week and was giving it plenty, no probs.

thats the second graphite rod thats blown , 1st was a daiwa redback plastics rod last autumn

don't have reciept for the 200 either. only bought it a month or 2 ago

makes me wonder if heading out on boat with rod rigged up , swivels tapping away on blank , is causing a mark that would be a weak point.

i love buying tackle , but this is ridiculous

anyone else going through graphite???

Exmouth Web Cam

Does anyone know where they have moved the web cam? I only just found it and now they have moved it! Found it really interesting. Even better than watching the TV!
