west coast bioregion fishing rules
Submitted by seadog-1967 on Thu, 2013-12-19 00:48gday just thought I would put a few of my frustrations out there after reading the guide to fishing in perth local waters.first point is at the beginning of the book it shows daily bag limits for pink snapper dhufish, ect and states through these pages,"for boat limits, see page 37",page 37 does not mention anything regarding boat limits and I am inclined to believe that if you have ,eg,3 people with fishing licences that you can take 2 pink snapper each,is this correct?Secondly on page 43 it states,"to protect fish and there habitats some activities are banned. In particular you are not allowed to:use fish traps or pots of any kind [except lobster pots and octopus trigger traps, use dredges, obstruct any bays, rivers " ect,but the one that gets me is where it says "you are not allowed to jag or deliberately foul hook fish with baitless hooks."once again the way I read that is that no one should be trolling lures or jigging for fish and as they include squid in there book I would consider using squid jigs a big no no to ,there are a few grey areas throughout the guide as they call it are there any fisho,s out there with a law degree that can enlighten me on these hard to follow "guides".cheers.

Opening Day Dhuies
Submitted by Seaquest on Wed, 2013-12-18 16:21Headed out early Monday morning for the first fishing trip I have done in ages. Managed our two dhuies by 7am. Got to love this time of year when the dhuies are close in and in good numbers. Spent the rest of the morning jigging a few sambos and also managed to finish the bag off with a couple of snapper. Daves dhuie was a cracker to start the season off, caught on a smith jig. Day was spoilt a bit by a few outboard issues. Hopefully its nothing to serious and I can get back out there before xmas.

Coral Bay at christmas- Who else is up there?
Submitted by Versus on Wed, 2013-12-18 09:12Just putting it out there, I'll be at coral bay for a week starting saturday. After the dinghy i was gonna borrow fell through we've decided to hire a 5.5m half cabin from exmouth boat hire for the week. I've only been to cbay once, and that was without a boat, plus i'm a novice boaty in general, sooooooo... If anyone else will be there with a boat and wouldn't mind having us tag along at some point, for safety and/or some general pointers etc, that would be sweet. I've read about the north and (dodgy) south passage etc, but apart from that don't have much of an idea of where to go.
And in general, if anyone wants to say hello, have a drink or meet up for a landbased fish then fire away.
Will be in Wagoe the week after too!

Fishing/Boating 21st December 2013 Advice Wanted
Submitted by tobefished on Tue, 2013-12-17 15:33Hi All,
Chasing a bit on advice and recommendation for this Saturday. Not after anyone secret spots or location (though would be great if you could provide some shallow water sambo spots! If you were willing to share).
Weather was looking great at the start of the week, now looking a bit more sloppy. My friends and I are novice boaties with all the safety equipment required.
A bit about the boat - centre console, ally, approximately 5.3 meters in length (fits 4 people nicely). Normally launching from Woodies
Original plan was to hit Rottnest to do some sambo jigging in about 40 meters of water, chasing both sambos, demersals and possibly pelagic. Seems like this plan is out the window.
With the wind blowing up to approximately 16 knots - what are your thoughts and where would you go (from Fremantle). Is-it best to stay in close or is-it still safe to head out to the 40s in the weather predicted on Saturday.
Our thought were to head to stragglers reef or even behind garden for some kgw, skippy (I know there still a ban for Demersals ban in Cockburn).
We are still learning the ropes of boating so any recommendation on where we should go would be great or advice if we should stick in close or keep to our original plan will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers again and looking forward to your responses.

Fishing Today
Submitted by gib77 on Mon, 2013-12-16 19:53Anybody get out today for a fish. Been a long long time between fishes but was lucky enough to get out. Was a classic day on the water, bit slow overall, but we did manage a 12kg and 6kg dhu, released a few others. Got a blackass and KG Whiting too but between 4 of us was a bit slow really. Mostly caught between about 9 and 11am. After that we were just floating around, nothing biting...

Reviews on Berkley fireline fused crystal braid
Submitted by jengle88 on Mon, 2013-12-16 17:41Was looking at putting some 4-5lb fused crystal braid on my 2000 reel and was thinking that it will give me aand edge over the fish being that it's relatively clear? I will still be using a good rods length of fluorocarbon leader.
And if so, would it be worth sacrificing the better line vision of the brighter coloured braids?
Thanks

Albany - Boat Fishing - Tips or Suggestions
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Mon, 2013-12-16 05:52Heading down to Albany for 2 weeks last week of January and 1st week of feb with the family. I have a Ally 6.1 Ocean Sport Quintrex. Will be staying at Emu Point. Want to do some fishing with my 17 yr old son and hopefully find some reasonable ground.
Looking for anyone who fishes from Albany from a a boat if they would kindly give me some general tips which direction to head and depth to be in to get to reasonable deepsea fishing ground etc. Will be launching from Emu Point mostly unless I get other suggestions. PM me if you would rather keep it off the forum. Happy to receive some starter co-ordinates to get me going etc :-)
Also appreciate any advice for in close fishing like squid, KGs and crabs etc. Never fished this area before so any general tips - dangers to watch for - what to expect etc will be really appreciated.
Also if anyone is down that way around that time and would like another boat as company happy to go out with them just PM me your details so I can get in touch.

Submitted by TAPOUT on Sun, 2013-12-15 19:07Left Mindarie early on the hunt for KGs. 10nm out and been doing the same drift in one area for 3 hours. Some f%#ckwit decides to pull up approx 100 mts up wind from my drift. You have got to be jokeing.
On a side note picked up 1 king george and succefully released 9 Dhus. Couldn't get away from them. The ban is obviously working well for the breeding.

Kingfish with pineapple, Crispy shallots, basil and Nam Jim which is a Thai dressing with chilli, shallots, garlic, coriander root, fish sauce, lime and Palm sugar.
Managed to turn my missus into a convert on the sashimi :)
Still can't make up my mind what i prefer between Yellowfin tuna and kingy , maybe yellowfin just..

Realllllly sux !!!!!!!
Submitted by tailor marc on Sun, 2013-12-15 17:53Well went down to Bunno to visit Lisa's family in Myalup. Took the boat out Saturday and what a day!!! Got close to whales, watched them breach etc. Crazy but the day was marred in sadness as i took the light rod, fitted it out with small gangs and half a mulie hoping for big skippy but my main target was big flathead . Of all the fish i have caught she loved flathead the most so we found some flat sandy bottom in 12 meters of water, Dropped my bait and left it on the bottom as i played wth the gopro then the rood went off hard! I was hooked onto what i thought was a sambo. As it got close all my nightmares came through as soon as i seen pink. Friggen big snapper and i knew it had to go back!!!!!!!
Quick couple pics and held it in the water it gave a huge tail wash and darted for the bottom safe. Oh well i dont eat fish but would of loved to get some fillets for the family at Christmas. Love to catch and realese though so it felt good.
