Worth a sticky?
Submitted by Versus on Tue, 2012-11-06 21:20Just wondering if its worth creating a sticky on "using the search function". I know i've been guilty of it, posting about topics that have been covered a fair bit (exmouth, etc).
Maybe there should be a search option up the top (next to links, shop etc), it is kinda inconspicuous.

Azusa -- loose reel seat
Submitted by Cameron71 on Mon, 2012-11-05 11:16I was trawling the forum last night and read about a guy on here whose Azusa reel seat came loose.
I bought one from blue water Scarborough before a trip to shark bay in May and when I put the Stella on it, my reel seat came loose too.
Anyone else had this issue with Azusas?

PR Knot for Casting
Submitted by Cameron71 on Sun, 2012-11-04 21:00Well, the wife is in hospital with a new baby (yes it is mine) the little girl is in bed, I have two videos and am thinking of tying PR Knots to Yozuri Pink Fluorocarbon on my Stella 8000 and two certates (4000 and 3500).
Do these cast OK or am I going to have to cut them out and tie something more pedestrian when I want to send a metal out?

Rod to suit 4000 Saltiga?
Submitted by bradzino on Sun, 2012-11-04 20:35Hi Gents
I will be picking up a Slatiga 4000 and was wondering what rods the punters are using? I will be running PE3 on it and plan to fish plastics and Jigs.
No budget really but dont want to go too stupid... maybe the SG62S or the 60S anyway let me know what other brands are good at the moment.
PS I got a Catalina Nabura 67s in the new model and its awesome- run the Branzino on it when I get back to Aus.

Submitted by oz74 on Sun, 2012-11-04 20:16hi all,
tried attaching a picture into another similar thread but couldn't get it to stick.
looking for any comments on the boat below that I have a contract coming for tomorrow - checking it out in Qld in two weeks.
Anyone had any experience, good or bad with Sterncraft boats?
Made in Tasmania so I would think that they would/ should be built to last??

cheers

Cray pots- Plastic or wood...
Submitted by mrwinta on Sun, 2012-11-04 20:13I'm going to get a couple of pots for the cray season as there is still a few sharks about and I'm not too keen to dive just yet.. What is the difference between plastic, pine, jarrah and kane? I was told once by someone that the plastic work better on the whites and the wooden better later on with the reds.... is that true or BS?
I had some jarrah pro pots with steel bases and they were too big and heavy, the rusty steel made a rite mess of my boat- I didn't catch a thing in them and I got sick of them so in my temper I pulled off a few slatts and the rope and made a mini artificial reef out of them...
What would be a good cray pot to buy that I could have at 10m or out deep in 30-40m and still be able to handle on my own, preferably without the steel base so as not to ruin the floor of my boat again??

Abalone Season
Submitted by MarkTheShark on Sun, 2012-11-04 13:57I went out today on the northern reefs of perth to try get myself a feed of abalone, but with the wind and swell it made it extremely hard to get. After alot of getting knocked around on the reef with 10cm visibility I mannaged to pull in a dozen. I was just wondering how others did, usually i bag out... and are there any spots for abs maybe SOR that get less effected by the swell.

Buying a Boat
Submitted by greg gregory on Sun, 2012-11-04 11:22Hi all, New to the site and also new to the south west region. I'm living in Bunbury and I'm looking to buy my first boat. I have quite a bit of experience with boats over the years but have never owned my own. Just after some tips about what might best suit the area and the fishing I'd like to do. After something that I can get far enough out to get dhufish and the like and chase pelagic fish like spanish mackerel, tuna ect(which I know might be rare off bunbury but I'd still like to try). I'd also probably be fishing alot in close to shore so being able to launch it on my own would be handy. I was thinking something in the 4 to 4.5m range with a 40 to 50hp motor. Not sure on the depths I'd need to get out to do the fishing I want and whether the boat size I'm thinking of would be able to do it safely. Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Greg
