someones loss = someones gain
Submitted by fisho-ron on Thu, 2012-06-07 18:45this is one of them once in a lifetime events!!!
just chatting with my dad tonight and he tells me about his mate merv, that went out for a night fish with some other mates on the bank out from mandurah on the weekend just gone.
they are ready to head in and merv's on the spotty and noticed a fish on top of the water(alive and kicking), so thinking its one they have released that has floated up, they motor towards the fish...... merv says.... there is 2 fish and one is eating the other!!!!!
on closer inspection they have found someones paternoster rig with a size pinky and a size dhuy!!
someone has been busted off on a double header and they have floated up to the surface for them to pick up.
thats going to be a story to tell the grandkids!!
its amazing at some of the weird things that can happen out there.
cheers ron

Suggestions for new reels?
Submitted by Smasha on Thu, 2012-06-07 17:58Hi guys, I am looking for ideas for a new spinning reel to suit my 8ft Penn power graph, with the rods line rating 5-10 kg. It's my all purpose rod that I use off the beach, rockwalls, jetties etc. Got a pretty limited budget (missus freaked out at a $150 price tag :D) so, I dunno, around $100-120? I was just looking at the Penn spinfisher series as a starter, as there are so many reels about, its making my head explode...so any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

kayaks deep offshore
Submitted by trav32 on Thu, 2012-06-07 07:57Just wondering if anyone knows of, practices or has previously towed or stowed kayaks on their boats and has used them as a "mothership" to then deploy out deep?
What are some general tips and advice on the ways in which to go about doing this?
I've seen people do this on you tube it looks awesome I have a tandem but not a boat so if anyone is keen to give it a go let me know also.

is baitrunner 6000D and 8000D spool interchangable?
Submitted by Terry Du87 on Wed, 2012-06-06 22:57hi, guys
just confused is it baitrunner 6000D and 8000D spool interchangable?if there are the same body, why there 8000d has 1/2oz weight heavier than 6000d? as normally i think 6000 size might be heavier than 8000, coz the shallow spool cost more material.
weather reports
Submitted by Dundee bill on Wed, 2012-06-06 21:19Hi guys, looking for some advice on where to get the best weather reports. Seabreeze or Willyweather ?? or would you recommend another. I was caught out recently on two occasions with seabreeze so I am a bit dubious about how accurate the information is.

Rotto Bottom bouncing
Submitted by fishing fanatic on Wed, 2012-06-06 11:46Hey guys since i got into spearfishing i haven't really done much non-land based fishing due to being able to get better fish on spear. but the other day tombstone took me out for a fish and we got 28 differnt speices. nothing big minus a banjo shark, eagle ray and north west blowie though.
we hit up south side rotto and i was using trusty old bait while he had a soft plastic rod out at the same time as bait. after a while i got sick of catching wrasse and small dhuies and pinkies etc and i started day dreadming about diving :P. but then he got snapped oh on his bait rod (saltiga 4500 on a saltiga boat rod) and then i decided to grab his terez with a stella 5000 on it and 50 pound braid. never fishing plastics before and then all of a sudden i felt bites, i was like ??? how do you get bites on a soft plastic (7 inch punk prawn gulp jerk shad) and then something big hit. but after about 5 seconds it snapped through the leader(40 pound fluro carbon). on closer inspecton i noticed the whole leader was grazed and felt rough.
After loosing that fish i am now hooked on soft plastics!
i went out and bought 3 packets of gulp 7 inch jerk shads(nuclear chicken, peppered prawn and pumkin seed) plus some 1 ounce and 2 ounce jig heads ready to go :)
I am heading out with a couple of mates on friday to rotto again where ill be trying that same spot once more. but does anyone have any advice on general ground i should try? ill be doing catch and release as my freezer is full of spanish mack, baldy and southern blue grouper. and the other guys are either new to boat fishing or havent boat fished south of shark bay.
Cheers for any info or even tips for soft plastics. if all goes well i might have to look into some demeral jiggs next :)

Fishing Charter off Port Hedland or Broome
Submitted by Uluabuster on Tue, 2012-06-05 23:20Hi All,
I m thinking of going to Port Hedland or Broome for a day or two of charter boat fishing.
Will be doing mostly surface stickbaiting or popping or demersal jigging or plastic fishing.
Can anyone recommend any day charter fishing off either of the locations ?
Thanks

Entry level priced gear
Submitted by Troy Summers on Tue, 2012-06-05 21:29Yep I always take the cheap way out.... but not today... After a really cool demersal SP demo night at Bluewater Morley, and a trip out with Fisho-ron over the weekend... I decided its time to get onto some decent gear.. that aint cheap ass or a broom stick... yeh ok, not best money can buy, but, way better than any cheap import copy of a named brand that I own.. including braid...
So I splurged a little today... and bought myself this XT Sanctum 5000 reel, mainly as my entry to demersal SPs... 15kgs of drag!! 11 ball bearings, infinite anti-reverse, spooled up with 300m of 30lb Daiwa accudepth tournament 8 braid... cant wait to see whats capable of stopping this new favourite reel!!! I reckon this is about as multi-purpose as a reel can get... just gotta get a rod to match it up with and christen it now... cant wait!!
Troy
PS.. a big thanks to Tim @ bluewater, not just for the craploads of info.. but for keeping me excited!!

Busted by Fisheries - What should I do?
Submitted by dalaisc on Tue, 2012-06-05 19:19On a recent trip up to Exmouth we were boarded by fisheries who were doing a routine licence check. My mate who owned the boat and was skipper thought his missus had renewed his licence but that was not the case. We had 19 fish on board with only two licences so had exceed the limit by 5 fish. My mate stuffed up and is expecting the infringement notice.
When they pinged us they took our details and we were told that this was a tricky one because normally if someone on the boat has no licence then the skipper is pinged for exceeding the licence bag limit. Problem was they had never come across a situation where the skipper did not have a licence so for some administration reason they could not ping him.
Today I received a notice in the mail so it would appear that they have decided they would ping me. The problem I have with this is that I had my licence and had only kept 7 fish as allowed with my licence.
Your thoughts please. What should I do? If I contest this then I could face court and administration cost should I lose.

Mono for squid
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2012-06-05 15:16Any recommendations on the best mono for squid. I am thinking I will tie the jig straight to the main line so I am chasing a good quality mono that has good 'invisibility' qualtities when submerged. eg: Would you use fluro carbon for a main line?
