Submitted by claymore on Tue, 2012-06-05 13:49anyone know what sort of bird this is?
i was out in the boat with a mate on friday night and it crashed into me, it couldn't fly anymore so i took it home.
it's still alive and starting to move around a bit, i fed it some sambo and some polard.
not sure if it ate much of it, but it made a decent mess.

Rod advice please
Submitted by C.P on Mon, 2012-06-04 14:27Can anyone offer some advice please on a 6kg boat rod. (spinning) I have a shimano 3500 baitrunner on a light beach rod but the rod is too long for my little boat. So I'm looking for a shortish rod to put the same reel on. Mostly for targeting King George but possibly snapper at times (or is 6kg too light for snapper?) I like to have quality gear but it doesnt have to be roles royce. I would appreciate any recomendations.
Shimano Tranx
Submitted by spanishmackeral on Mon, 2012-06-04 13:51Just saw the new Tranx reel on Shimano's website, they're just a big baitcaster really, and look pretty good on paper.
My guess is the PG model would make a great demersal jigger.
Does anyone know when they will be on the shelves and at what price?

My Photographs of the best W.A fishing Locations
Submitted by tailor marc on Mon, 2012-06-04 13:31Hi guys, lately i have been getting away to photograph my favourite fishing Locations of W.A
Thought i would show you guys as alot of you like my work.
I would love to make up a calendar someday to sell in fishing shops and give the money to charity. On day soon i hope.
I will update this thread for more fishing locations and any locations i have missed feel free to ask me and i will do my best to capture it.
I will start with my latest shots. I took a drive yesterday at 4am to Moore river for some fishing and photographs. What a magic sunrise. I was praying for a really nie sunrise and the gods provided.
I also prayed for some nice tailor but the gods failed me. Lovley to get away none the less.
Enjoy...

Albany fishing
Submitted by D2ky on Mon, 2012-06-04 01:26Hi all,
Me and few of my friends will be heading down to Albany for a 4 days holiday and fishing trip end of June. Do any one been fishing down there lately? What kind of fish normal show up during that time? What kind of gear should I pack up? Is the salmon still around there at that time? Where is the best fishing spot? For more info, I don't have a boat. So is only land based.
Any help will be appreciate.
Thanks

US boat imports
Submitted by Handi 1 on Sun, 2012-06-03 19:37Have been looking at them for awhile now , like the look of the Sea Fox , Sea Hunt 23ft Walkarounds . Would like to hear from owners past/present on anything that might put you off from them .Im very particular about choice of motor , only yami or suzuki 4 strokes . More after ride quality in WA waters , and other notable matters . Would love ali in same size , but it just hard to beat prices of the glass imports !

Fellow Crankers?(Breamers)
Submitted by Cardinal on Sun, 2012-06-03 18:18Hi guys just wondering who else on this site enjoys throwing hard bodied lures(shads, cranks, scorpions and so on) around targeting bream and flathead in the Swan. Would like to know who else out there enjoys this type of fishing as much as i do and would maybe help each other with in depth reports. Just thought i'd put a heads up.

Bluejuice
Submitted by Sanyasi on Sun, 2012-06-03 16:29A couple of us bought tickets for a Bluejuice Extreme Fishing Charter. With great forecast and light winds, 12 of us gathered at 5am in the dark at Hillaries for the charter. A hour later we were told "charter's cancelled - we can't start the boat" !
Disappointed but still keen, we rebooked for a month later to try again. This time, we received a call the day before - "charter's cancelled - we can't find a skipper" !
Are we just very unlucky or has anyone else experienced this ?

Know your bag limits
Submitted by C.P on Sun, 2012-06-03 13:11Katsy 85s post about closed seasons reminded me of this.
A couple of months ago i was drift fishing & caught a double header of swallowtail on the first drop, hooked within seconds of the bait hitting the bottom. I sometimes dont worry about swallowtail because they are usually very small. These were both a good size though & those who have eaten them will know they are pretty good on the tooth.
So I gleefully stashed them in the ice box. 20 minutes later a fisheries boat turns up. (first time thats happened to me out on the water) Theres a young lady standing on the bow asking me about equipment etc then asks what fish I'v caught. so I hold up the swallowtaail. "Nice" she says "better go & catch some skippy now" "Skippy? -No way" I replied. "I going to catch a Dhuie"
Then she reminded me that I had my bag limit already. Two fish from the group - including swallowtail. Lucky for me i had not caught anything else. I'm very careful & respectfull of bag & size limits but that one got past me. A man's got to know his limits.

Hds 10 help
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Sun, 2012-06-03 12:25I have a hds 10 with the 50/200hz transducer and need some help ironing out a few issues and understanding how to get the full benefits from it. My first question is what depths suit the alternate 50/200hz? I think that the 50 is better in shallow water and the 200 in deeper but not 100% sure.
Also I seem to be getting a rather unclear picture, especially in the top third of the water column. What is the cause of this and how do I eliminate it?
I'm also unsure if what I think is fish and good ground is actually that. I read it as though thick red is solid coral, yellow as softer ground such as sand and blue as weed beds. I haven't changed any settings from installation, so would this be on the money or am I giving myself false indications?
I'm sure there are a lot of different options to gain maximum benefits from it, but more than anything I'm too unsure about it to start pressing buttons for the sake of it and throw the settings out altogether. It was a pretty expensive unit so I want to understand it properly to maximize its purpose and catch more fish.
Any help would be great :)

Stupidity (lost item: Abu Garcia power tip, shakespeare axiom)
Submitted by Travis Br on Sun, 2012-06-03 11:38Hey all
One of my first posts and it's a downer.
Was fishing the canning river shellies bridge, where the pipeline crosses the river
Due to the packing up the kayaks, and the hurry to escape the hordes of mozzies, i failed to pack my rod in the car. I was sure I did but obviously not.
I live out in Armadale some distance away so I didn't get the chance to return.
If you happen to find an Abu Garcia power tip with a Shakespeare axiom or hear of some one who finds it, could u ring us up on 94971583.
Oh and if u got a similar story of your best fishing gear gone missing, due to your own funny mistakes, please share
Would love to hear em :D

Submitted by Cardinal on Sun, 2012-06-03 08:19Hi all wreckers!! Been observing this site for quite sometime now and have finally decided to sign up and say G'day.
Most of my fishing adventures happen around the river flicking hard bodies around in search of that 50cm bream and 60cm flatty. Been close but still way off. I'm addicted to the lure stuff and cant get enough of it.
Hope to post some reports in the coming weeks of my river sessions.
Again hello to everyone and look forward to sharing some fishing stories with you all.
Happy long weekend!
