Rotto surface temps.
Submitted by 81macca on Thu, 2011-12-01 19:06Some very interesting surface temps off the back of Rotto. Inside the first FAD the SST charts are reading 23c and out further a massive temp brake of more than 3c that runs parallel too the remaing FADs. should see that first billfish report very soon. Love the chance to drop a deep bait on the temp brake for a broady. Need some glass offs.

redfin catch
Submitted by gizmo on Thu, 2011-12-01 16:58started to sort out my fishing box yesterday & got the urge, so rang my brother & off we went to one of the local dams.
our catch consisted of 13 fish, but I was disappointed with the size caught. on speaking to the owner of the property I was told that a local professional had come in & netted the dam; I have since dicovered that he has been attacking all the local dams in the area, so it looks like 6 & 7 lb redfin will now be a thing of the past.
however, our catch consisted of 13 fish. my 4 fish totaled 1.160kg, the largest 680g & 360mm, on cleaning I got 400g of fillets.
hope this is the right place to post these notes

River depths/mulloway around the causeway
Submitted by lunker on Thu, 2011-12-01 13:13Hey guys just as the topic says... I have a few evenings free and with this weather I'm keen on putting in a few hours with a big bait or two. I'm not too familiar with water depths or good spots around the Causeway as I've generally fished for mulloway much farther upstream. Can anybody point me in the direction of some deeper holes or gutters in the area? or is it just a matter of cast and hope? Pretty keen on staying reasonably close to the area as it's close to home.. may have a few beers etc.
Cheers!

A serious bit of equipment
Submitted by Grooveepants on Thu, 2011-12-01 11:16This just arrived for my Lowrance HDS-10. I needed something to mount the unit on so it would clear my dials on the dash.
It's one serious bit of kit and now I can position my sounder an infinite number of ways.

Steep Point Spin Rod
Submitted by johnray on Wed, 2011-11-30 17:35Gents. That time of the year is fast approaching and I'm on the hunt for a new spin rod for Steep Point, something that is capable of flicking Nilsmasters/Rapalas around 9ft? Price isnt a great consideration as I normally keep my gear for years so I'm not shy of spending a little extra upfront. I'm a saltiga fan so I'd be looking at something to accomodate a 4000 weight/ size capacity reel. Thanks.

An early edition of Friday Funnies?
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2011-11-30 17:30Never Argue with a Woman
One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.
Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?"
"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?")
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."
"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.
"But I haven't even touched you," says the game warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."
"Have a nice day ma'am," and he left.
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

Trip to Busso on Sunday
Submitted by fathead on Wed, 2011-11-30 16:03Well I was all pumped to take the boat out on Sunday so drove from Manji to Busso all keen to get the boat wet. This was only the 2nd time the misses was coming along and only about the 5th time I have taken it out since getting in to boating. Was hoping it would be a good day to get her as keen as I am. Weather was great and the fish were biting all day. The wife was very excited to see whales, and a pod of dolphins up close. We got a bit of a mixed bad, heaps of wrass, horseshoe leather jackets, skippy and a couple of banjo sharks which slightly freeked out the wife initially. After such a great day she now cant wait to go out again and now she also has the fishing bug.![]()

Two found dead in search for missing kayakers
Submitted by StevieP on Wed, 2011-11-30 16:01
TWO Victorian kayakers left a yacht club early yesterday. Last night they were reported missing - now bodies have been found.
One person was found dead by a passerby at the Patterson River in Carrum around 6.10am.
The second person was found off Seaford just before 8am.
The discovery of the bodies comes after two male kayakers went missing yesterday.
Authorities cannot confirm if the bodies are those of the missing kayakers.
Police scaled back the search for the missing kayakers after the second discovery.
The gender and age of the two bodies will be released after family members have been notified.
Carrum local Ian Callander, who lives where the beach and river meet, said he did not see many people on the water last night.
"For somebody to have gone kayaking last night it's just darn unfortunate there weren't hundreds of boats out there," he said.
He said conditions started to get rougher about 7pm.
"It got more and more choppy," he said.
"It was as rough as when you've got a rough day - not extreme storm weather like today - but it was as rough as 80, 90 per cent (of) what you'd call rough seas."
Other residents who live near where the body was found said they were shocked to hear of the early morning discovery.
"It's very sad," one man said.
Rain continued to fall this morning and the water was choppy at the spot where the first person was found dead.
The body was removed from the water but police and SES crews remained at the scene.
The kayakers were last seen at the Sandringham Yacht Club around 8.30am yesterday.
They were reported missing at 8.30pm.
Police earlier said there were conflicting reports of how many people were missing, but later scaled back the search.
Water police, the police airwing and the SES were all at the scene.
About 15 volunteers also helped search along the shoreline.

BIG BARRA!!!
Submitted by Brynner on Wed, 2011-11-30 12:22Not sure if many have read this report about this Baz being caught over east. Apparently was caught in the Kinchant dam, 25km inland of Mackay. It measured 1.34cm and weighted 41kg(90 pounds) on certified scales. Not a bad effort, not sure if she was kept or left to live another day. Love the wording on the brag mat "everyday's a good day for fishing". I Hope she is swimming around peacefully as we speak.

Planning a trip north
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Tue, 2011-11-29 18:37It's looking like I am going to get a month off work in May next year, which also happens to coincide with my 30th bday, and I am starting to think what better way to have my 30th than a 3 week fishing trip up and around the coast! I've never been up that way so I'm not familiar with the land or the fishing and wanted to ask for peoples opinions on where to go, where not to go, where to stay and where to fish.
Firstly, what should I expect of the weather during that time of year and is a trip like this feasible? I know it's coming into winter and would rather delay the trip by a few months than get drenched and bogged every day.
I really want to do Kalbarri, Exmouth and as far as Broome, but the rest is wide open. I am vaguely aware of the clifftop fishing of Steep Point but think I would prefer to avoid this area unless it is accessable by boat. Not too comfortable with heights..I have the flexibility of being land based or offshore as I have a 4x4 and a 5.5m fibreglass boat that I could take, but not sure if towing the boat is worth it. Any words of wisdom on this issue?
My target species vary between sport and table and I understand that access to these fish will vary according to being land based or offshore. Ultimately, comfort and accessability will determine whether the boat comes along or gets left behind.
Lastly, what should I plan for accomodation? I'm happy to pitch a tent and cook over a campfire, but are there any restrictions I should be aware of in regards to this? Sorry to write a novel and many thanks in advance for any help :)

decent landbased crabbing spot?
Submitted by rowshow on Tue, 2011-11-29 09:13looking at getting some crabbing in this week sometime, wheres a decent place to drop some nets for some blueys? dont mind driving around a bit. But lack of boat means im restricted to landbased. Any help would be good. Heard there was a few decent size ones down port kennedy way near the golf course but a bit closer to perth would be preferable.
