Hey guys my grandpa gave me an old deep sea rod and the paint is pretty rough and i was just wondering if i need a specific type of paint i need or just any old paint, thatnks alot

 Can anyone assist me with some advice with regard to the 16 series inters. There is the 16s, 16vs & 16vsx. I have just bought a mint 16s which I know was discontinued around 2005 to be replaced by the vs/vsx.

 I want to run 50lb braid but understand that 30lb mono is all the s is intended for and capable of getting the best out of because of the drag cam curve. From what I understand the only difference between the s the vs/vsx is the different tubeframe where the later models lose the top cross beam and have the drag cam which supports braid up to 80lb. Does anyone know if the drag cam (and tube frame for that matter) can be replaced with the vsx parts to effectively build a vsx out of it??

  Any help would be great, thanks in advance

I am getting a campervan from perth and heading north, no further than exmouth.. Just wondering if you guys have any

recomendations or any nice places that I can fish on the way up, have heard about coral bay and some others but

would like to find some more places! I am not using a 4wd so I know some spots are out of reach unfortunately.

I have a trailer for my 12' dinghy and i forgot to pay the license, hence it is unregistered (more than 3 months). I am going to put new lights on (which I know how to do) and new tyres, but I dont know how to check the bearings, and pack them (or what ever else needs to be done there).

Is there anyone on the forum who knows how to do this and is interested in doing it for me. I am obviously happy to pay someone for their time, I called a couple of businesses that do this, and they were a complete rip off.

Hey im heading to christmas island in a few months with my mate and i want to start getting some ideas of some new setups to take over currently ive got a 14000 saragosa so wanted to get a rod to match that mainly for heavy jigging/popping but if have to sacrifice just one purpose then jigging. Im also getting a stradic 5000 in a couple weeks an want a rod for that for lighter work but do u think a setup like that would handle some of the smaller stuff up there sorry bout all the questions bit of a novice but anyhelp would be appreciated

Having a large get together and planning on deep frying alot of battered fish.

Is it possible to "half cook (deep fry)" the fish a day before, and then throw it back in the deep fryer the next day to finish it off?

Thinking of doing this to save time on the day of the get together.

Hi all

I'm seeking advice on what type of bait is considered the best for catching crayfish, I hope I'm not opening up padoras box here but for the last week I have not even had a sniff at the various types of bait I've tried in wooden pots. I have used fresh mullet herring spleen mulies and as I say nothing has come near my pots as far as I can tell. All the various types of baits have been fresh I've even put bits of rag soaked in fish oil in with the baits. My pots are in good country where I have had good catches in past years (in 10-15m) of water behind 5 fathom bank.

Any advise thoughts much appreciated

I usually go salmon fishing around Hamelin Bay at Easter but the the last few years have been a bit hit and miss so the boys I go fishing with want to take the boat up to Jurien at Easter instead.

We have fished Jurien before but around aug/sept, anybody able to tell me what the winds are like at that time of year . The boat is a 7mtr centre console so will want to head out wide.

Mate and I decided to go fishing for the 4 day weekend to Cervantes. Spot we have fished before is just a few clicks north and a good, sheltered bay, reef etc

Arrived Thursday pm and basically set up the camper and area. the avaiabe area was reduced by wave erosion from last time we were there but no problems - so we thought!!

By the time we were set up it eas getting dark and the tide was coming in, and in, and in. By 8pm it was 1 -1 and half metres from the camper, and we were using the balls of sea grass for a levee to stop it rolling over the top.

Next morning was sweet. low tide beautiful conditions calm and sunny. Went aroud the headland and fished and by 8:30 we had 20 Gardies. Plenty of bait for the big Mullas etc we were going to catch that evening !!!!!

Copleted the setup of the camp, annexe etc and waited till evening, whilst tying rigs, loading reels etc.

4pm and the tide is 2 meters from the camper Swell is high and the edge being eroded rapidly.

Mike decided to try fishing around the reef but was back in 5 mins, stating the weed was impossible. Metre long stands of tangled weed that couldn't even be pulled in.

Meanwhile the tide and swell is taking it's toll on the beach, getting closer and closer to the camper. The next five hoours were sepent keeping the sea at bay. Using weed balls and sand to stop it getting into the camper. twice it got in but we kept in back enough till we were confident enough to turn in about midnight, when the tide had turned

If we hadn't kept fighting ans shovelling we would have had a lot of water inside the tent aea. Front and back of the camper and 4WD were being washed up to the dunes. only us in the middle.

Next mornig we decided we weren't staying any longer, forecast for similar conditions that night meant we would have been awash, couldn't spend another evening/night fighting the sea.

So we packed up and came home

Ended up fishing for a total of 2 hours and cut short our trip by 2 days

I would bet the area we usually have no problem camping in has now gone, with the sea reaching the dunes.

Just checked the weather report and Friday arvo is shaping up to be a glass off. I have a date with some SBT's at Direction Bank (If they're not playing hard to get). 

so i bit the bullet and ordered a saltiga surf yesterday and now just need a rod to put it on... just wondering if you guys have any suggestions am looking at the saltiga ballistic model's the tournament master surf and the sensor surf anyone used these rods at all?

Hi guys, when i went fishing last week i noticed the drag on my reel wasnt making that "ticking noise" when i put tension on the reel and after a few casts  the drag would loosen and i would have to keep tightening it, i was just wondering if there is a way to fix it or if i have to buy a new one. The reel is only a cheapie, Silstar Hypa Drive.

 Commonwealth North-west Bioregional Marine Plan comment

Submissions are due on the 28th November 2011 for comment on the North-West Bioregional Marine Plan.

Recfishwest sees value in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) which form part of the national representative system in Australian waters, based on biodiversity protection and sustainability of fisheries resources, as identified through independent peer reviewed science. Recfishwest does not however, support no take/no fishing/sanctuary zones – where the establishment of these zones lacks sound scientific justification.

Federal Government is under significant pressure from green groups to create substantial areas of sanctuary zones, areas that are not supported by science and which cannot be justified, especially as the social and economic costs of such changes are yet to be quantified.

Evidence presented by conservation groups to support marine parks has primarily been based on examples from third-world countries with no effective fisheries management. Many Australian fisheries are in fact improving, not getting worse. The Government must recognise the existing conservation values of the recreational fishing community and the significant concessions made by fishers over the years with the objective of sustaining and improving Australian fisheries.

Recfishwest recommends that submissions on the North-west Bioregional Marine Plan are based on the following points. Submissions should be sent to;

·         We have no objection to the proposed reserve and zoning boundaries. We support the zoning of this Marine Reserve as Multiple Use (IUCN VI).

·         The waters west of Dirk Hartog Island and Shark Bay are of high importance to both charter boat operators and recreational fishers.  The towns of Denham and Carnarvon are key access points for recreational fishers.  Many recreational fishers visit these towns to experience the high quality fishing this region has to offer. Both demersal and pelagic fish species are targeted including snapper, tuna, dolphin fish, billfish and mackerel.  Recreational fishing provides important social and economic benefits to these towns and surrounding areas. 

Proposed Kalbarri marine reserve

·         We have no objection to the proposed reserve and zoning boundaries. We support the zoning of this Marine Reserve as Multiple Use (IUCN VI).

Proposed Gascoyne marine reserve

·         No objection to the current location and zoning.

·         The waters of Ningaloo and the Muiron islands are highly valued by the recreational fishing sector.

·         Ningaloo coastline is an iconic fishing location, one which draws tourism to the area from all over the world. The accessibility to the waters of the Gascoyne region is integral to the economical and social benefits of the area.

Proposed Pilbara marine reserve

·         No objection to the current location and zoning.

·         The Rowley Shoals are an important destination of recreational fishers.

Proposed Kimberley marine reserve

·         We do NOT support this marine reserve in its proposed form.

·         We recommend that a 30 nautical mile buffer around the tip of the Dampier Peninsular (Cape Leveque) will allow recreational fishing related activities and infrastructure to grow.

·          The development of recreational charter fishing operations on the Dampier Peninsular provides great opportunity for economic participation in indigenous communities; one of the key objectives of the ‘Closing the Gap’ policy.

·         Fishing in the Kimberley is one of the most significant drawcards to the region. It is not simply an extractive process, but an experience that acknowledges the complete environment, builds social relationships, enhances cultural awareness and significantly contributes to the local economy in a sustainably managed way.

·         Both locals and visitors to the area consider recreational fishing to be one of the most important recreational activities of the Kimberley. In the Kimberley recreational fishing is a vector for family, friends and cultures to unite, bond, develop and discover the unique region.
