Just heard that someone local got caught with 200kg of mackie fillets by fisheries. All packaged up and ready to go. Assuming its a well known pilferer thats had a run in with fisheries on several occasions and well known by most up here to not do the right thing. Be very interested to see what sort of fine would be handed down for such an offence. What is it with these people? Also over the Easter break alot of the pro pots had been pulled with several "calling cards" of empty tinnies. What the ? Mackies have been hot as with everyone getting in on the action with plenty of tuna to boot.

With the clock ticking away and in approx 6weeks it will be the Billfish Shoot Out in Dampier. Who's planning to head up? I going but I will not be driving this time etc... I will be flying up and I will be fishing on my mates tinny, it's not really setup for chasing billy's .... but hey beats towing. Last year we reased quite a few but unfortunatley we only got one

Hopefully the weather will be great, last year it was really good the year before it was crap..

Are they best targeted on Lures?? Haclo 2+m ones?

Also considering using snapbacks as well?

Are they any good on the chew? or primarily just a sports fish?

Just wondering what is common between fisho's when going fishing. When I go out in metro waters I always have 4 rods for myself and 2 for my partner so when you see the boat at the latching ramp you see quite a few rods on the rocket launcher  but seriously I have a mixed of braid to mono with different line weights etc.., rods and reels from light action, trolling and jigging (ie. hate chasing fish with oversize tackle... like a whitting on a jigstick lol) Call me keen or a mad fisho but I believe in having a selection of rods to fish with and of course only the best quality too.  which hurts the pocket, but I am over doing it? , when going north will that is another story

Has anyone stayed or fished nanga station?

I am thinking of changing my first leg to further north instead of Kalbari and looking at somewhere to camp for a few day.

Well did the trip to the Cape Arid National Park with Damo6230 over the Easter break. (2 days driving, 2 days fishing) Found plenty of beaches and rocky headlands to fish between Poison Creek and Israelite Bay with a good variety of fish on offer. As expected there were plenty of resident Salmon and Herring with some real thumper Salmon mixed in. We also got bit off by some huge Sharks and I lost a Mulloway I estimated to be in the 30kg range. (I did get to see it and it was a horse of a fish) We heard rumours of a beach where Pink Snapper are caught regularly and thought it was just fishing tales until people in the camp site along from us confirmed it with 5 fish all over 7kg caught! Hence to say, we now know the spot and are planning our next trip.

If anyone ever wants to know more about the area, drop us a PM.

Heading out from Hillaries for a fish tomorrow morn and was was wondering if any one here has had any success chasing King George's on softies? 

I usually use fresh squid or occy with some success.

does anyone know whether my virgin mobile broadband on my laptop will work in exmouth?

maybe if someone even knows whether virgin mobile phones will work up there will prob answer the question too.

also if vodafone works up there (although it didnt last year).

Sherbs and I took young Andrew down to a local marina chasing some whiting to add to Andrew’s growing bait collection for Exmouth.

We arrived just before sunset to find the waters where we were fishing were alive with bait fish.

It wasn’t long before that cagey tailor speciliast Sherbs was hooked up to the first of many chopper tailors using his favourite bluebait casting set-up.

Trying a different technique, Andrew and I eventually atracted some school whiting to our baits and we had a nice little session pulling in some ideal bait-sized fish.

I managed to land some bonus captures, with my whiting rig accounting for two small pinkies.

It was a fantastic night, with perfect weather conditions and heaps of action to keep us busy on the extra light gear we were using.

Some of the interesting events to occur during the evening were:

• A number of solid bites which resulted in our lines being run straight into a large snag.

• The massive number of small blue manna crabs that were an absolute pest.

Another highlight was Sherbs giving some youngsters visiting from overseas a lesson in landbased baitcast fishing for tailor. It is people like Steve who help show the joy of fishing to novices that keep our great sport growing.

I hope to be able to post up a few pics later on.

Does anyone know where I can get electronic versions of:

1) WA tides
2) lunar cycles (either just highs and lows or continuous trend)
3) almanac peak times and days
4) historical wind data log
4) historical swell data log

I want to import them into excel and create an electronic logbook that cross references info against this data.

Or does anyone know of software that does most of this?

hi there all.

I need to get some canvas/ clear plastic work done on my boat in a real hurry.  I've recently had a new higher bow rail fitted and I would like to get some clears fitted from the gunwales to the rail to stop that annoying spray you get in a tinny.  I head North the end of next week, so if anyone could recommend somewhere, it would be appreciated.  It shouldn't be a big job.

Hey guys im looking for a rod about 9ft that is rated to about 16lb that will flick metal lures 10-40grams off the rocks for salmon, frigates, rat kings, stiped tuna, bonito etc.

At the moment the only two rods ive seen is the daiwa saltwater 8ft 17lb and the starlo stix shorespin 9ft 10kg,

Are there any other options out there?

Hey guys, Dose any one have any new's on these bad boy's in the Rocko area.

I have a spoiler for all the gurus!

I am an angler from Pakistan. The supply of fishing gear here is very very primitive. Somehow I have got different types of Soft Plastics in various shapes and sizes. But the problem is that here we don't have specialized hooks or jigheads available to work those SPs, so they are rotting in my tackle bag. I want to know is there anyway that those SPs can be used with very basic hooks and tackle.

hey guys i'm trying to get into squidding a bit more, wondering what the best brands u guys use are? i tried the yamashita and they work quite well for me int the natural colours, but i'm having trouble finding stores that sell them, they always seem to be out of stock. i wouldn't mind trying the haramitsu's or yo zuri's but again finding the good ones is hard. any suggestiong on where i can get some good jigs from? or any other quality japanese brands. i dont mind paying for quality..

went down to windy harbour for the easter break.

I had forgotten how nice the place could be (when its not blowing its ring out.....!).

did all our fishing over the other side of the small peninsula, at salmon beach. its heaps more protected from the southerly around that side, plus a much nicer beach.

heres a few pics of some of the salmon we got. all fish were on 6kg line, all on halco twistys, and were a great fight. the missus took about 10 minutes to bring hers in, but she fought it like a pro.

I woke an hour before the alarm went off and turned it off. Next thing I heard was "OK can you get me a cuppa?" LOL So much for sneaking out.

First pic is of setup. I had all options covered today after a weekend of wishing I could be out there with the weather the way it is. I did have a small effort Friday but it was full moon and not to much action to even worry about. 

Anyway, I went the big guns early and first cast had a major smash and a short fight I thought I had won. The second pic shows the wire trace as it came back to me (with all the rest of my terminal tackle bar the hooks). Oh well.....

Two casts later.. BANG! on again... this time a Mulloway doing it's thing. Great fight and was excited to see it.. DAMN.. lost it in the surf. Oh well.. lol

Not long after I landed a very nice Tailor and managed to put it in the bag. I landed another good one not long after that and decided to fillet the bugger and try for something decent. Yes well; Three rigs later, and about 150 meters of expensive braid, and very sore arms I realised the pair of megga big rays hanging around really liked what i was dishing up. They didn't seem to mind the body art I dressed them up in either.

So I reverted to second option, doing some popping. Not that long before I was amazed by a smash and it was on again. Another really nice Tailor. After that, nothing. I ventured up the beach a while and had a chat with a couple of guys before returning right on high tide and before the impending storm to go again for a while. I decided on anchovies...My! did they work on the high tide! Herring went into them, some nice bream and even a couple of undersized pinkies. To add topping to the cake another smash from a nice sized Tailor at 11:30am in the morning!

Tailor I measured were 46cms, 44cms, and 45cms. Nice fat fish. Great to see for a change dammit!
