G-craft rods?
Submitted by bradzino on Sun, 2012-12-02 17:03Has anyone had much to do with or own a G-craft rod? I like the look of the G-craft Ocean drive jerk shaft, has all the fruit but not really sure if it will be just another impulse buy...
PE2-3 model in 6-4ft 150gram I can pick it up on the way out of Bankok back to Australia for $500US.
lowrance hds navionics platinum card wanted
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2012-12-02 13:00its been asked before but only in the gold i thought.
i am chasing for my cousin a navionics platinum card for a lowrance hds10,
it has to cover the whole of W.A, not interested in over east, but if that is the cheaper option, or what you have then so be it.
i have looked on ebay and was hoping someone local could supply at a good price.
anyone know the cheapest place to buy, either local or online?
thanks in advance.

GPS/ fishfinder which one ?
Submitted by twicther on Sun, 2012-12-02 10:48I am in the market for a new sounder/GPS unit and was hoping for some feedback on preferences. At present 2 local blokes have suggested Lowrance HDS 5 or 7 gen 2, the hummingbird ci hd di comes highly recommended on one forum i read. I am sure there are plenty of options but for ease of use, reliability and after sales service, what would be the right choice ?

leisure craft mono hull c/c
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2012-12-02 08:21my mate Andy has just got himself a new boat, a 6mtr leisure craft c/c, i didnt know they made mono hulls?
apparantly its the only one, special build he was told, can anyone confirm?
went out for a test run with him on sat 1/12/12, in some shitty condintions to wet a line.
i have never been in a c/c before so not sure how to judge it?, the only thing i can say is...not for me!!
we went to a spot south of point peron in the 30s, that andy has got some small sambos from before.
i decided it was a no bait day for me and pesisted with the jigs and placcys for the whole day, i have been watching ben(goodz) who will persist with artificals and normaly come up with fish of the day!!
sorry to dissapoint you ben, i failed missreably
with only a couple of sargent baker getting on my jigs.
the boys on the bait did well, no sambos wanted to play the game but a suprize to Andy was a couple of pinkys and a nice queeny, along with all the other shitty fish.
all fish where returned strong, except for the baker that donated himself as bait.
i am sure andys tub and mine will be fishing together for a while now, he loves his fishing more than i do!!
couple of pics of andys first fish on the new tub.

Monster Cape Kingies
Submitted by Seaquest on Sat, 2012-12-01 18:33Made a last minute decision today to head out for a fish. Bit of an uncomfortable trip out with southerly winds and a huge swell running. Fingers crossed the forcast was going to be right and the wind would drop. Lucky for us it did.
The plan today was to jig a few kingies that turn up at this time of the year. First drift and it was on, a small one for me and Dave from Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz pulled in one of the fattest YTK I have seen from the Cape Nat area.

Dave got a bit excited and tried to spoon it. Talk about someone who loves their fishing.
\
Managed to jig up a few more YTK, sambos and one amberjack in the next few drifts. The photo below shows the average size of the the kingies.

My biggest for the day which was 5cm longer than Daves but was nowhere near the same weight.

Another cracking session on the kingies down south. Think I will be a bit sore tomorrow.

FAD's 2013 - Deployed
Submitted by Tim on Sat, 2012-12-01 18:26Been quite a few questions asking when the FAD's are going out lately.
Just letting everyone know that the FAD's were launched today by the crew of Challenger Institute’s “Maritime Image” and volunteers from Perth Game Fishing Club despite some trying conditions.
Some pictures can be found here https://www.facebook.com/perthgamefishingclub as well as plenty of other information that is located on the Club Website http://www.pgfc.com.au
This years FAD sponsors are:
All Marine Services boat maintenance
Club Marine Insurance
Fremantle Sailing Club
Furuno Marine Electronics
Hillarys Yacht Club
Perth Game Fishing Club
Now the waiting game begins to see how long it takes for the fish to start congregating around the FAD's (last year it was a couple of weeks for the first fish to show)
ps If you enjoy fishing the Fad's the Club is always looking for new members who are interested in/or learning about Gamefishing - Info on the Website http://www.pgfc.com.au

Casting into those sea breezes
Submitted by TerryF on Sat, 2012-12-01 11:17Can you handle those sea breezes? With the right gear and skills, you can fish almost anywhere and in almost any conditions.
We can show you how to get the best out of your own fishing gear if you would like to bring it along. You don't need any special gear to start dry casting. Many people use their regular fishing gear, particularly for the accuracy casting.
Where:- Yokine Reserve, Wordsworth Avenue, Yokine. Competition starts at 8:30am, but club members are there from around 7:00am onwards for setup and practice.
We can give advice on different rods and reels and show how these can go together, and also let you try out casting with different rod and reel combinations to find one that suits your fishing needs and your size and physical strength. This is important for the ladies and juniors, and those of us who aren't as young as we used to be, or for people who are struggling to cast the distances they want to.
Our visitors always get a lot of useful and practical tips, and often add ten to thirty metres to their casts on the first day - and, no, we don't catch many fish at drycasting, but those skills certainly help when we go fishing.
After the competition and the lessons for the visitors, we get together over a sausage sizzle and soft drinks, and talk about anything to do with fishing and casting.
Check the Club's website http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/ for other Club activities. PM / email me or the Surf Casting and Angling Club's Secretary for more information.

Cleaning mussels
Submitted by jighead on Sat, 2012-12-01 05:08I am interested to hear peoples methods of cleaning mussels prior to cooking. I normally scrape them with a chisel to get all the crap off but it takes a long time. There must be a better way to do it. Some homemade inventions even?

Good spots around Albany ?
Submitted by Squidring on Fri, 2012-11-30 18:32Hi All, Im headed down to Albany xmas / new year with the family and looking for tips on where to fish. I am looking for advice on 2 fronts. Firstly, good comfortable fishing for the kids, and secondly ( and most importantly ) some spots for myself for a couple of solo missions, ie some serious beach or rock fishing. I am aware of a spot called
Cheynnes Beach but it is 40mins out from Albany I think, and time may be a factor. What kind of fish should I target at this time of year ? Not really sure what is around down there ? Some nice tailor would be good, but open to all suggestions.
Hope you guys can help.
Cheers.

GT Fishing Coral Bay by boat
Submitted by Radelleski on Fri, 2012-11-30 15:10Hi Everyone,
I am looking for some tips, spots or thoughts on areas to pop for G's in Coral Bay. I have tried the search function of the forum and google and so far have struck out. There just doesnt seem like much info out there on fishing for G's in Coral Bay, other than they have been caught as a by-catch to the more popular species of the area like reds and spaniards.
Anyway I am still a novice at the sport of GT fishing plus boating but this is my plan so far, feel free to critisize.
- We will have a 6m boat, 2 of us fishing and one driving,
1 dogfight with matching rod and 1 stella 20000 with same. Both spooled with 80lb Braid. We will use +100lb leader.
We will head out north passage (south if the swell is low- BTW what size swell would you normally attempt crossing the south passage)
Fish along the back of the reef for the 3 hours running up to high tide
Head around and fish front of reef during outgoing tide
We will try fish any pressure points or around big bommies behind the reef.
- Lures - most likely be Dumbells and stickbaits
Anway thanks ahead for any help or advise.

Submitted by troy fuller on Thu, 2012-11-29 17:57thinking about getting into diving, how often have you guys seen sharks while you have been diving? the amount of times we have been on the boat and have said i might quickly jump in to cool down and then 5 minuites later a big shark has appeard is pretty scary lol..
I'm keen to do a dive course and buy some diving gear, what sort of gear should i buy? dont need really expensive stuff as i wanna try it before i start buying $$ stuff. How deep do you guys usually dive? is around 40 meters good to dive? I'm sure i will be feeling alot better about the sharks when i have a speargun on me :P
how much would i be looking at for a decent dive setup and speargun?

Where to go?
Submitted by Crikko on Thu, 2012-11-29 16:37Got tomorrow off, so looking to go for some beach fishing action, was thinking either the 4WD track just south of Mandurah, or Hamelin Bay?
I'll be by myself, so don't want to be going into anything too strenuous with the 4x4, but want to at least have half a chance of catching something (don't care if it's only herring!!).
Leaving from Bunno, got a spare seat if anyone's keen?

Getting a rod labelled for a gift
Submitted by Dan on Thu, 2012-11-29 09:48Hi All,
one of our staff is retiring, and as a pressie, was going to get him a rod & reel.
will probably just go with an off the shelf rod; but wanted to get it labelled with his name on it - like you often see on custom rods
- can anyone recommend someone who might be able to do this ?
cheers
