Struggling to let go - old faithful - Fraser 595
Submitted by ChrisG on Mon, 2012-04-16 23:13Crew,
Almost need a shoulder to cry or at least some reassuring haha
Finally about to take the plunge and get rid of my first true love - the first boat I paid my own hard earns for - my Fraser 595
Bought new and after spending my first 20 odd years on the water in various different sized and quality boats owned by firstly my Dad and other family members this thing was delux (obviously not flash by today's standards).
Most of all it how wet it is and the fact that a flushing toilet is all but demanded by the misses and daughter that is paramount to my decision but gee it's hard to let go - I trust this old tub so much andi know it inside out (got me home when it blew up to 40plus anda 3m swell from the bank to mindarie about 10 years ago and trust in a boat like that I am afraid won't ever be realized again).
Anywayverymuch a post about nothing other than maybe food for thought or comment...

North Mole
Submitted by Zach Loudon on Mon, 2012-04-16 19:55Hi all,
Have decided to try go for a night fishing session at North Mole but not too sure what to expect, as I have never been night fishing.
What sort of fish hang around there at night? Any other advise would be much appreciated. :D

heat shrinking assists
Submitted by grayzeee on Mon, 2012-04-16 19:05I had rigged a couple of single hook assists for my 500 gram jigs
after bringing it back up , i found the hook wrapped up around the swivel, so quickly stuck on a ready made one off a cheap sambo jig with the shrink.
When making them up,do you generally always heat shrink the longer assists to stiffen ??

Dinner Bell
Submitted by C.P on Mon, 2012-04-16 17:59Went fishing off Mandurah Saturday and drifted around all morning for nothing. Not even the wrasse were biting. Wind was gentle from the south east. Everything was beautiful, except no fish. So I went closer inshore for a while to my K.G spot but nothing there either. The wind changed to westerly so I thought about heading back out 7 Km or so thinking maybe the wind change would turn a trick. Mulled it over for a while, then decided to do it. Back to the same place I had been all morning and the fish were biting on the first drop, Within 10 minutes I had a nice Dhu on board and headed home. Now obviously I knew that the wind change might be significant but I am still amazed at the contrast. Those fish must have been there all along. It was as though the god of fishes had suddenly rung the dinner bell. So I'm wondering about other fisho's exprerience with this. Is a westerly wind best?

Best gaff?
Submitted by dkonig82 on Mon, 2012-04-16 16:27Anyone got recommendations on a good gaff?
I must be too vigorous with my grey coat landing (relax - only for ones getting eaten) because I seem to keep bending the handles on the ally ones and concerned about the wood ones snapping.

Golden ponds?
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 2012-04-16 12:30Hi Guys,
Anyone ever caught anything at Golden ponds?
I took the wife and young fella there yesterday arvo, spent $10 each for a fishing fee for a couple of hours, was directed to the "Barra pond" behind the shop and arrived at a 25m x 8m mudpond and tossed some lures in for the arvo - no movement, no bites, no nothing - tried bait pellets too, but absolutley nothing, so ended up taking a dissapointed guy home...?
Asked a few other guys around there and they got nothing either?
Cheap beer and lunch though... $75 for 3 of us for a retaurant meal and 3 drinks each...

Upcoming Exmouth Trip advice please.
Submitted by monstaf1sh on Sun, 2012-04-15 21:27Hi guys,
I am heading up to Exmouth for the first time fishing trip with one day booked out with Eddy on Peak Sportfishing to chase the GT's and plan on hiring a boat for a couple of other days.
I really only wanted to book a 4.2m woodduck runabout for 2 days but can only get it for one, the lady I spoke to from Exmouth Boat Hire said the 5.5m boat is available for the other day.
Is there any other good boat hires out there? or should I just stick with the two boats?
Also would like some advice on the best places to launch and fish or any other useful tips whether boating or land based.
I have 5 nights up there so I will be fishing ma a$$ off.

The squid who cried human
Submitted by Tomo91 on Sun, 2012-04-15 19:58 On other squiding adventures as like the one today an escapee squid warned all its friends?
While drifting on a tinny today we where getting decent squid every third cast at least! Then the unthinkable happend and one sliped off the barbs and through my mates grasping hands. It hit the water and wasn't seen again. After that we had no more hits even though we put another couple of hours in.
Do you guys think an a squid can/does warn other squids?

jurien 1st/2nd banks
Submitted by grayzeee on Sun, 2012-04-15 19:29We are heading up to jurien in 4 weeks , and never having fished there , I've been doing a bit of searching and chart checking
Am I right in thinking that the first bank is the drop off at 5.5 NM out from the harbour , down to 30 meters , and the second bank rises out of the 50's into the
40's at 18 NM before dropping off deep??
Providing the wind is good , the 2nd bank'll be the go eh?? I've beeen told the 50's are a bit desolate.
also , what is the wreck just off the leads to J bay??
cheers
