poppers/rapalas/pencils - what wood to use?
Submitted by Bungel on Sun, 2010-08-29 07:52Going to be making some lures and need advice on the wood to use. I have had two woods mentioned to me - White Beech, which is nice to work and heavy . Paulownia, a very light easy to work wood.
I intend on making mostly large pencil and chugger style poppers with quality heavy duty tackle and through wire construction.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Saturday Bash.
Submitted by DieHard on Sat, 2010-08-28 19:32Hey all,
went down to my local marina again around lunchtime... met up with Fisherboy aswell. set up big rods and went to go get some buffys for bait. well fishing was really slow until about 2:30 when we only landed 1 zebra around 500g so off i went and chopped his body in half the head on my O/H and the tail on the SPIN.
not a touch until 5pm when i was flicking around for some squid when my O/H starts screaming!!! took me about 10secs to get there climbing/running along the rocks... Yeah another ray :D this time Mr. Ray was heading straight for the point (West) cutting across the busy channel of the marina :O. the ray was only around 30-40kg but i had locked up drag and this thing obviously gained enough momentum before i applied so ge wasnt stopping. well the ray started tiring after 10mins when i noticed in the far distance the rotto fairy coming, not long after i thought my line would just make itunderneath the boat when all of a sudden.. *PING!!!!!!*

Well that was it for today.
Cheers,
Eric

Double Dhuy Delight
Submitted by Seaquest on Sat, 2010-08-28 09:09Went out west of the cape for a fish yesterday with Harro. The day started out a bit slow but after a few moves managed to find a couple of fish. Harro had a solid hookup that turned out to be a cracking double header of dhuys.

The day for me was spent jigging with my new outfit. It was a bit slow most of the day with only a couple of knocks and one sergeant baker until we were just about home. Harro decided to have a quick look at a spot in the bay where he has occasionally caught pinkies. When we arrived at the spot the sounder was showing a solid school of baitfish. First drop for me resulted in a nice jigged dhuy on a Shout Stay.

Great way to break in the new rod and reel. After releasing the fish we struggled to get another bite so we called it a day. Thanks for a top day Harro. It always good to let someone else skipper for a change.
Cheers
Brendan

Perth tackle shop prices
Submitted by MiSh on Fri, 2010-08-27 22:51Is it just me or do we not seem do get the big discounts the eastern states get. Moved over to adelaide for 3 years and have recently returned. Have to say i am a bit disapointed i didnt stock up on more gear when i was over there.
Looking at purchacing a new rod a reel to take to sharkbay in a couple of weeks but have been unbable to get close to matching the price from rayanannes and thats including shipping.
Are these tackle stores running at a loss or is just another case of us west aussies getting the raw end of the deal

Odd Looking Trout
Submitted by dodgy on Fri, 2010-08-27 21:55Picked up this Trout on the troll a couple of weeks ago. Hit the lure and then came straight to the top and dragged along back to the boat. Barely a kick. As it came in I noticed it had flattened its head right out and stayed like that until I squeezed it back to normal shape for a couple more pics. Seemed healthy enough apart from that.
Anyone seen a Trout do this before?

Went down to the new boat ramp today, can't wait for it to be finished, quick run to Coventry reef.anyways caught a couple of nice size leather jacket. Had to put on a wire trace as the first two bit me line off. Also had some bit pulls on the wire trace. Don't know if all the ones that got away for leather jacket but it was a good days fishing.

motor maintenance
Submitted by just dhu it on Fri, 2010-08-27 07:45since owning a boat i have always reguarily greased and sprayed CRC over my outboard to prevent rust and corrosion staring and keep all electrics in good order, the last few years i have started using INOX to do the same thing . my brother inlaw does the same thing on his 2 year old super charged jet ski only to have an ignition coil fail at 40 hours, he returned the jet ski to the agent for warranty repairs only to be informed that INOX has a rubber corrosive agent in it and in my brother inlaws case the rubber ignitor lead that comes out of the resin encaptulated ignition unit had lost its seal due to the INOX breaking down the seal and allowed moisture to enter. i would be interested on other peoples view or problems

Still crabs around
Submitted by Brooka14 on Thu, 2010-08-26 08:56m e and a mate hit the swan last week when winds were no good..dropped 10 nets around 10 metres of water..
so surprised theres crabs still around the fisheries even did a check on our RFBL's and all that and they thought i was stupid crabbing this time of year..
was a good night except for the idiot in the zodiac who was using our floats as a race track and ended hooking one and dragging it to 15metres of water and letting the tide take it..thanks buddy
