Bait board insert
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2022-12-23 12:57Hi all
I've had my bait board extended and now need to cut a new plastic board for an insert. Current one is 10mm thick and I'll need minimum size of ~ 630mm x 380mm. Any suggestions on what to use and where to buy it? Planning to do the job on Christmas Day when all 35 of my wife's extended family arrive :-) Faaarrkkk

Blues and KGs
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2022-12-22 13:56Another good night on the scoop on sunset and took the whole family out for a fish this morn. Only wanted a couple of crabs so walked around until I found some 130+ models.
The Boundary Island Brewery is a game changer. Early dinner and a pint then over to island in the wind protected channel for a scoop just on dusk.

My thoughts on new rules
Submitted by little johnny on Tue, 2022-12-20 21:28And others that have been introduced over the years .no iam not anti vax syco .Love the ocean . Start with cockburn CRABS . They took away tangle nets . And replaced them with traps ( not pots ) crabs cannot escape ,they caught 24 hours a day . Blue manna crabs ( males ) leave . All fertile females stay behind . Traps still catching all females with eggs inside body . Amature fault I don’t think so . CRAYS how many amatures fish outside 35 to 40 meters and catch jumbo oversized females ( divers not included) with fur not many . DHUES how many people would keep a dhue under 500 mm . No one I know . They say target other fish . Let’s go for MULLYS . Mullaway are a family group rarely intermingle with other schools . Once you have your prime spot you will wipe out generations of family gone. Hence why my family members stoped going for them . Only 2 to 3 times a year now days . SNAPPER are like blowfish atm . Endangered my ass cockburn pollution stopped huge schools coming in . Back of 5 fathom and beyond pain in ass . My summary of everything if new stupid rules come in . Few years time dhues in local area will be gone ( no breeders left) education in how to handle and bring in fish the way to make fish survive . Amatures will be to blame . Crays stocks drop well der be amatures fault for giving away to many crays . Not pros taking all big breeders . Taking female crabs ( no sign of eggs internal ) but the whole crab industry is in danger . Be amatures fault due to people getting caught with undersized crabs .not traps fault . Look list goes on . I have spent my whole life in water on water . To me it seems they do not want any amature taking anything . They make more money out of pros than the common person . They will not be happy until they take everything away . My bitch / my thoughts on what I have seen only . Is it about how much money they can make . Or is it real concern about stock ? I have my doubts . Each to there own . If it was me I wouldn’t do there surveys / frames / logs . It bites you in ass . As far as public forums go , it’s a free world . My bitch over . First day back at work fustration gone

Underwater Fishing Cameras and GoPro's
Submitted by 420casts on Tue, 2022-12-20 19:59Hi everyone, I'm looking for a suggestion about fishing cameras like the WaterWolf and any good reviews / experiences anyone may have had with them and also what anyone thinks about the GoPro's that you can use underwater. I am a complete and total noob with cameras, not to mention waterproof ones - but I'm freshly interested in experimenting with them to get some cool footage, especially offshore. Any input is welcomed and I thank ye in advance. Cheers.

KGs for Days
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2022-12-20 12:43Took my two boys out off Halls Head at gentlemen's hours and got straight onto the KGs. The boys smoked me on account of them letting the fish make an absolute mess of the lines and me keeping them fishing. The Cleggie rig was with one J style hook was the winner.
We dropped the pick and tried a burley trail but only landed two more then back in just as the SW and sea sickness kicked in with smiles all round.

Peel Blues
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2022-12-19 08:26Got 3 in about 6 runs on 5 nets yeaterday with the kids. Shot across to Pt Gray for a scoop for nought but did better at Boundary Island on sunset. Missed heaps as we had 3 scoops between my 3 and my 2 nephews and niece but they had the time of their life with my bro and I sipping a beer and scouting.
This is my digs for the next week!

Bring on new
Submitted by little johnny on Sun, 2022-12-18 20:29Rules . Dumb as they are . Few dhues caught. The rest released no dramas . We let everything go that was small. No dramas . I personally think fisheries and government taking size limits of is for pro sector ( money and money). To many fish going back dead . Not from amateurs Just my thoughts . Why the fuck would you keep something under 500 mm . Anyway science wins . I only done schooling to eat lunch.

Penn 10500
Submitted by timbo2410 on Sat, 2022-12-17 11:58Hi all, I got a penn 10500 a while back (probably close to 2 years ago) and last week I finally got around to spooling some line and headed off fishing. First cast and bail arm didnt return .. stripped it down today I cannot find anything wrong with it at all. The bail arm is lubed and free, the spring and rod are fine and move freely - but I cannot work out for the life of me, how it is actuated. Ive looked on the net and found a couple of maintaining videos that clearly show all the parts being assempled .. but nothing that actually shows how the bail arm is tripped. One video talks about a "ramp" (which makes sense as it will push the rod up and the bail will spring back). But I have no ramp, no step .. nothing that would cause the bail arm to trip .. anybody else got one who could advise me?

Waterproofing Bungs
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2022-12-17 11:05About to drop my boat in a canal for a week and want to make sure the bungs are impenetrable. I know petroleum jelly is no good but would a smear of the marine grease for my hubs be fine as I'm sure it's not petroleum based or even just soak the bungs in light solution of morning fresh?
Cheers

Display model reel - Full price or discounted?
Submitted by Jim on Fri, 2022-12-16 21:28Do you guys think display model reels should be discounted? My wife just purchased a fishing reel for Christmas ( I've been a good boy!). Shop said it was last one so she bought it. First question I asked was did they take it out of the cabinet? Yes they did.
What do you think?

How to catch blue mackerel around Perth?
Submitted by Sky Eyes on Wed, 2022-12-14 10:39Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, thanks for the add.
I'm a mad keen spearo, but I don't know much about line fishing tbh.
Now, I bring dhuie and coral trout home regularly but my wife's favorite fish to eat is actually slimy/blue mackerel, which is a fish that we can't really target while diving lol!
So I'm after any info that could help me get some of these: gear, tackle and all, but mostly when and where?!
I'm based in Perth and have a boat that can go offshore :)
I'm not after peoples' specific spot of course, but general area, depth and ground...
All advice will be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Sky
PS: this is not a joke

Chanel Nav Question
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2022-12-12 12:47So yesterday I was pulling into Elizabeth Quay using the right side of the channel (red line) and the ferry was beelining straight for me (green line) on an angle (i.e. lined up the red marker with the green marker) pushing me straight into the nav marking and rock wall. He eventually managed to turn enough to prevent a collision with him or the rock wall but let his horn rip pretty aggressively.
