lowrance hds10
Submitted by seadog-1967 on Thu, 2012-03-08 01:19gday to all the oldschool fishwrecked members, yes i,m the new kid in the boat, well so what, just kidding, question is ive just upgraded to a lowrance hds 10 it would be greatly appreciated if i could get some helpful info on how to save tracks, routes ect to memory card so as i can save them to my pc,also what is the correct download for a navionics ,globalmap 4800 card, and finally as the hds 10 has 2 card holders how do i transfer data from card to card,is there any risks of losing any data on the navioncs card other than the boat sinking of course, cheers and remember,to be wise and old,you must have been young and stupid first,cheers................

Not fishing related - Alternator dead
Submitted by Oracle on Wed, 2012-03-07 17:00Gang,
My Navara D40 petrol has dropped it's bloody alternator. Dead.
It's getting looked at but Nissan is quoting $2400 for what must be the gold plated, diamond encrusted model. Part only - installation extra! And this is not me going to Nissan for the job, just quote on the part.
For that price, It'll make a good super quick trade in I think!
Anyone had this issue before or could recommend a cheap rebuilt one? Or auto electricians on site that deal with rebuilds?
Cheers

surf casting reel
Submitted by sickkkkkk on Tue, 2012-03-06 22:25hey guys,
just curious as to whether surf casting reels/long spool reels make that much of a difference in casting than a regular spinning reel? in terms of distance is it worth investing in one of these reels? just curious as i struggle to cast further enough past the breakers with my overhead reel.
thanks in advance
jay.

Slam Soft Plastics
Submitted by reddo_crothers on Tue, 2012-03-06 18:23G'dayy fellahs
I've done heaps of fishing with Berkley Gulp jerk shads and had very satisfying results.
Was cruising around on Ebay annd came across the Slam soft plastics. At only $4.95 i guess it wouldnt hurt to try them out.
But i was wondering if anyone else has used them before and how they performed??
Any info appreciated :)

New OH combo advice
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Tue, 2012-03-06 17:50Hi guys
Am after a bit of advice on a new OH combo if anyone would be kind enough to help. Ill be using it mainly for bottom dropping in 60-100m, as well as a bit of jigging and even as a backup troller if needed.
Ive narrowed the reel down to either the Talica 12 2 peed or the Saltiga 30 2 speed. Both are obviously decent reels but the main differenes I can spot is that the talica is a touch bigger capacity and stronger drag. But Im still struggling to make the final decision. Has anyone used both and have a preference or know of any pitfalls of either reel?
Has anyone seen these reels side by side and know if one is actually bigger than the other? havent been able to find anywhere in perth that has both of them (Im guessing the Talica would be slightly bigger?)
For a rod I was looking at something around the $250-300 mark. Any ideas? I like the look and feel of the fin nor offshores, but they only come in either 30 0r 80lb (will be runnning 50lb on the reel so something to match that would be good) and have a plastic reel seat- am i being a bit unrealistic to look for something with a metal seat that still light and jiggy Ive got a live fibre stroker 24kg but its a bit heavy and thick for jigging, something slimline would be good.
Oh yeah, one more question (kind of) related to the reel... I havent done much in the way of OH jigging, will I have to thumb lay the line on the reels when Im cranking, or do you spool it slightly under full to allow for this or something?
Cheers in advance guys, any help would be much appreciated

Reelshore sportsfishing
Submitted by lovemefishin on Tue, 2012-03-06 17:35Hey guys
My younger brother showd me this facebook page reelshore sportsfishing. He went to school with one of the guys in bunbury. I have been trying to catch a mulloway and they have uploaded a vid with a few caught. They seem to catch good mulloway all the time and some even in bunbury where there are 'NO FISH'. I was drooling at their fishing album!!!
Heres the vid!

Fin Nor Fury rod
Submitted by kknlk on Tue, 2012-03-06 15:44Just saw a Fin Nor 10 foot rod named Fury, 2 piece 8-10 kg, $149. Any one got any idea what it is like say compared to Shimano Starlo Classix and similar models. I'm also looking at Daiwa's new shore jigger but this is over $400 whereas the Daiwa Seajigger is under $300. They're very similar but lure rating slightly different. With rods like the Classix avail it's a bit hard to spend $400 but I need to have a play with both to see which I like better.

Cray Pot floaters / by-catch
Submitted by Dizzy on Tue, 2012-03-06 14:43Was Trolling the west end yesterday with my 7yo young fella and the pro Cray boats were in action pulling pots reasonably close to the south end of our run.
My boy watched one pull and reckoned he noticed a few things dropping / getting thrown over, and on our next run we came across a string of by-catch floaters, including 3 small Harlequins.
He's a good kid and has a great respect for fish (including the ones we catch & keep), and (like me) he got concerned when he saw a fin still moving.
So we pulled in the lures and netted 3 of the fish, all surprisingly alive but suffering from mildish barotrauma.
He wanted to try and help them, so out came the release weight and we sent them all back down to ~20m.
So that was our good deed for the day, but what concerns me is the difference in attitude - especially considering these are classified as High-Risk demersals.
I know FA about cray pots etc, but based on what we saw, it appears there is a reasonably significant number of by-catch.
What's the usual practice for these guys ?
We all have to carry release weights to do our bit, but for pros the time wasted trying to release fish is obviously not economically feasible.
So in the end, it appears there's another lack of balance in the effort for fisheries conservation.
Not trying to stir up the cray boys or anything - just putting it out there & looking for a bit of perspective.
The story also probably gives some others hope to know there's kids out there like my young fella who really give a shit.

Yamashita's Whizzers Jive Vs Breaden Spice(WideRange)
Submitted by Izhizm on Tue, 2012-03-06 12:54 Hello everyone,
I'm planning to purchase a dedicated EGI rod from overseas but I'm torn between two options and I need help deciding between the two. Which of the following would be a better choice ?
guess, it boils down to weight comparisons now , as the breaden is 118 grams, but I'm not sure how heavy are the Yamashita's compared to the breaden.
Has anyone used a Yamashita WHIZZER's JIVE rod of the following models ?
WJ832M 8'3"
WJ862M 8'6"
I would like to know which is lighter ? the breaden or the Yamashita? Thanks
