Johnson 25 HP 2002 model
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 2012-03-15 20:19hi guys,
I have just picked up my tinnie with a 25 Johnson 2-strokeoutboard on - The guy at the shop pull started it first time, and said they were prone to flooding, and it has a stupid prime lever thing on. He showed me the water coming out of the tell tale, and put in in gear and showed me it was all good.
I get home 10 minutes later, and the motor wont start???
There are no external kill switches and the motor is in nuetral - checked this..
i then toggled the prime thing, and it smelt flooded - took the plugs out and pulled it a few times, put them back and the motor started, but did not idle and died, I opened the throttle manually and kept it there, and the motor started and ran at a high idle, cause of the forced throttle - I held it there for a while to clear out its throat a bir, and noticed the water was not flowing from the tell tale, and dropped the motor to an idle, but it just died.
i checked the flow and it was fine on the muffs. The leg seemed to be hot, so i let it cool off, removed plugs, drained the carb from the screw on the bottom and the plugs are brand new - checked for spark, and they are sparking well.
forced the throttle agin and restarted the motor - same thing, runs erratically and wont idle.....
Any Johnson guys out there with a tip?
I can take it back to the dealer to check it, but must be something stupid, as it worked fine there??
Any help would really be appreciated

Baitrunner 6500B vs 12000D vs Thunnus 12000
Submitted by docp1980 on Thu, 2012-03-15 15:33Hi,
i'm looking at getting a big baitrunner to match up with my 12' Ugly Stik for beach and rock fishing, as well as some bottom bouncing on a smaller rod. At the moment I can't decide whether to spend the extra $ on a 12000D or Thunnus or go with the tried and tested 6500B? I have heard reports of the D and Thunnus having gear problems and that the 6500B isn't as amenable to use with braid as the other two.....
Has anyone out there had experience with these reels and if so what are your thoughts?
Cheers!
Matt

Quintrix 3,9m Tinnie
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 2012-03-15 12:59Hi Guys,
I am looking at buying a Quintrix 3,9 m tinnie for the sound/river and a quick fish or for crabbing etc.
I am 100 odd kg and tall, and want to know how these boats are for stability - would I be able to stand up on the boat when fishing, or will it topple over?
Do they bob around a lot on the water?
Would a 25HP motor be suitable for this size boat.
Thanks guys..

Beating the Crowd @ Two Rocks Ramp.
Submitted by Trueblue3 on Thu, 2012-03-15 08:44G'day All,
I have been seeing loads of good reports coming out of two rocks was going to give it a crack soon, however there seems to be loads of congestion on the ramp in the morning, Is there much of a crowd around 4am? I would assume after 5am it would be a mad house.
Next question, has anyone / is it legal to stay overnight in the marina there? Either parked up and launch early, or sleep on the boat already in the water with an anchor out, obviously keeping close to the wall and staying out of the way of any night fishing boats...
cheers for the help in advance guys.

broome barramundi
Submitted by gumnut on Wed, 2012-03-14 12:13So Im heading up to Broome in the end of April. Driving up inland thru to Hedland and on up to Broome for a week, back down the coast to Exmouth for a week then back down south again.
Itd be stupid of me not to take advantage of the fishing while im up there! I have Exmouth sorted but Im chasing advice for Broome.
Im actually really keen to chase barra up there. I have done a search on here already so dont think im lazy - I went thru 10 pages of searches and didnt really get much info.
Do you think it would be best to go on a barra fishing charter or can anyone help me out with advice to go after them on my own?
am I going at an ok time of year for them?
what sort of gear should I lug up there with me?
any advice is appreciated guys as Im right at the start of my barramundi education at the momet!
cheers

Tuna on Whiting Gear
Submitted by JohnF on Tue, 2012-03-13 19:27After a good sess on Saturday with Daz and TimVB where we bagged a nice mac and dhu,my old next door neighbour asked if I could take him out for a run on Sunday. Pretty stuffed from the day before, I was relieved when he suggested a quick whiting fish inside the 3 mile was all he was after. Happy days, a couple of nice cold ice coffee's and gentlemans hours start of 8.30am.
Stopped in 15 m after getting a few fish on the sounder, anchored, open the Masters Ice Coffee, and bang, double hook-up of fat whiting immediately, and this went on for the next 20 minutes. Cool bananas, nice feed of whiting for the neighbour, he was happy, I thought I might get home by 10 am and keep the missus happy.........but.......
.......the next whiting came up nicely sliced in half..........I hardly felt it so likley a maccie....dammmm! My interest levels quickly elevated, Dr Jeckel be gone, Mr Hyde came out and on went a couple of live whiting that were sent to the depths........swim swim swim, my scaly little freinds.
5 minutes and bang, a nice run, but bitten off on the snelled hooks....... so I put a fresh new livie on with wire this time, and after 10 minutes of nothing I bring it up to check it. On the way up, a bloody big fish swooped back and forward numerous times but balked right at the livie.....damm wire.......still not sure what it was.....but for the world looked like a big trevor, too light for a sambo.......a gold spot possibly?????
Back down with another livie, a few more whiting for the esky and them wammo.......after a great fight, a very fiesty bronze whaler was landed and dispatched......flake ahoy!
Right, that is that, happy to go home now.
A minute from Hillarys and tuna went nutz everywhere, bustin up all over the shop. PHARK.......only whiting gear or trolling overheads set-up, so on with some twities on the whiting gear and with some trepidation me and the neighbour pinged the tuna schools..........40 minutes and quite a few swear words later, was just about to give up chasing schools of flighty tuna, very frustratng stuff! Then wham, double hook-up and it was on. Completely nutz, 2500 size whiting reels and 6 lb line were sizzling, and after me trying to climb arounf the boat to chase my fish, I lost contact and dropped it. Cliff was stll on, and it was not looking good, the little Shimano el cheapo whiting outfit was protesting loudly, and the spool was looking rather empty.
Started the boat and the chase was on, for the next 35 minutes we chased the tuna! After many tuna circles Cliff bagged a very nice stripey tuna on 6 lb line, quick photo and the tired tuna slowly swam off.
Bit more chasing and I am on, this time I rigged up my Certate 2500 with 8 lb braid and got the stripey to the boat within a minute......just missed the net shot, and then 5 minutes later, I am still tring to get colour after a few good runs......go hard on light gear these stripeys! Landed it very green and then released after a quick snap.
Home by 3 pm to a grumpy wife but a VERY happy skipper and deckie.

Bali - Lembongan Island fishing?
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 2012-03-13 13:04Hi Guys,
I am heading to Bali for a few days soon, and will be staying on Lembongan Island for a holiday. Any good fishing around there? Anyone have a contact on the island that can set me up for a good days fishing?
Can you eat the fish you catch around there? What can I expect to catch - I believe there are Mackeral around..?? I would like to go out with a local guy on a small skiboat or longboat, and fish with their equipment? Any ideas on the cost of a trip out for a day?

Witchdoctor swimming action
Submitted by terboz123 on Tue, 2012-03-13 12:32Team
I have two witch doctors, one a black pete, one a ritcher. When i set them, they always seem to swim right for 5 minues, then stop and sorta swim with the head pointing toward the boat. Then 5 minutes later, you will see it doing it zig zagging. (very fast, sending out huge flashes!) Curious to know is it just me, and are the doctors swimming right? or am i doing something wrong? I want to get the doctors doing the zig zagging 100% of the time....
