changing gear ratios
Submitted by EL SYD on Sun, 2012-03-25 19:24Hi all. I have a spare satiga dogfight and was wondering if i could put the high gear into a red saltiga S-extreme 6500
need the S-extreme on a custom rod but want a high gear ratio. currently have a stella 20000 on it but it lives on another rod
cheers
Need opinions. Daiwa Saltist LD20 or Fin Nor Marquesa 12?
Submitted by triggy on Sun, 2012-03-25 17:24I like the look of these 2 reels, mainly for a bit of bottom work in 20-60m of water and maybe a bit of jigging.
Price difference is minimal but the saltist is 200g lighter. Line capacity isn't an issue with either.
Can't decide on which reel?

Another Certate Hyper Question- changing knobs
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sun, 2012-03-25 16:24Looking at blinging up the Hyper with a new knob... Having a few issues trying to remove the old one. Anyone done this before that could give me some pointers?
Have done this before with my Talica and Luvias DA and it was a pretty straight forward process, but am stuggling with the Hyper.... It appears to have the usual two screws holding the plate in place on top of the reel, but not even the smallest jewlers screwdriver or even allen key (tried that!) seems to fit in it. It honestly doesnt look like it should be suited to either.
Anyone have any experience with changing a Hyper knob give me the heads up on how this is done?
Cheers!

Tailor in 40m at night
Submitted by Mela_77 on Sun, 2012-03-25 13:41Not sure if anyone got that before ....
No shallow reef or shelter, and 35-40cm Tailor was hammering the jigs and whole live bait, on the bottom, in 40m water depth, around 8pm last night!! Is that usual for Tailor?

Also would the Ford with RWD drive be able to tow the boat, not interested in opinions of HOLDEN VS FORD blah blah blah

Quick overnight camping south of carnarvon
Submitted by Tandawg on Sat, 2012-03-24 21:16Hi all,
I am going up to Exmouth in about 3 weeks time. I am looking for a spot just south of Carnarvon to do an overnighter and early departure the following morning.
I will have a boat and camping gear, so plan is to set up a dome tent without pegs and fly just to get some sleep.
Have heard of a spot 60Km south on the east side, and also a spot called Bush Beach. Just a simple "loop" off the hwy will suffice - no toilets nessesary.
Thank you
Chris

if you could only catch one fish
Submitted by bitten on Sat, 2012-03-24 21:01thought this might make for an interesting topic
if you could only ever catch one more fish in your lifetime what would it be, in other words what is your fish of a lifetime
for me it would be a mulloway over 30 kg from the beach, i've done this from a boat but the beach just holds a special sort of challenge

AFL
Submitted by Leemo on Sat, 2012-03-24 18:44With the season finally hitting us with the first game tonight, what was your take on the GWS v Sydney game? I think my biggest suprise is not how well GWS held up (partly), but rather, Chad Cornes can still play football! Haha. I reckon GWS will be a force to reckon with in the next few years..... but this year might challenge Port to last place!

check your insurance
Submitted by hummeldoddy on Sat, 2012-03-24 07:51Gents
A few weeks ago I was fishing at the narrows.
I had 16ft rod out for Mulloway and was spinning for tailor with a 6ft rod.
I had just cast out to the 2nd arch of the brige when 3 asshole hoons in a tinny came screaming over both my lines.
Needless to say both lines caught up in the prop.
My 16ft rod started to go in so I grabbed it - as this was happening the braid on my 6ft rod started screaming out and began to cut in to my hand.
I had no option but to drop the rod or else my fingers would have been cut off.
They 3 guys then started circling around and shouting and then took off down the river.
It had turned out they had stolen some other guys crab nets as well.
I reported it to the police and got a report number.
I then contacted my insurance for a claim.
It turns out I was not covered by insurance as I only had insurance for possesions that are on my property and was not covered for possesions away from my property.
I am realitively new to Australia so was not clued up on insurance matters.
Leason learned: - Please double check all your policies to ensure that you are covered for this type of loss.
My rod, reel and line only cost around $450 but it is money I could have been putting towards buying more beach casting gear.

Tuna report off Ocean Reef
Submitted by Just1morecast on Fri, 2012-03-23 20:56Just thought id report on the tuna i encountered today. Launched at 4 to find a xr6 in the water, turned out the bloke launched his ski and instead of wacking it in drive he put it in reverse haha. I tried to help but some others got there first. Anyway to the tuna, well they are every where i was casting at them only 100 from the shore and had a ball. Unfortunately i didnt stand a chance on 8lb. Hooked and dropped many but had one for 40mins til it came to the ski and busted me off, around the 8kg yellowfin it was. Amazing site to see the water alive so close to shore. Hope you all get into them while there here also plenty of little whaler sharks moving around with them but they seemed to be feeding on the white bait the tuna were.
I found metal lures the go 10-20 gram. I hooked one on the 40 gr but the bait were only 5cm. They wouldnt touch a halco laser pro trolled at all. Some big tuna too i definitely saw some in the 15kg range massive guys just free jumping everywhere. Got some go pro footage but hopefully land one soon and post it up
Cheers
