Jigging and soft plastics is it worth it?
Submitted by clogwog on Thu, 2014-02-06 18:11Gotta admit I have no idea when it comes to jigs or soft plastics, I generally fish upto 45 Mtrs, is it worth using these methods in these depths? Also what weight jigs do you use, with soft plastics do you use a heavy jig head with additional weight to get to depth, any help appreciated.

Submitted by Beard_Slob on Thu, 2014-02-06 16:07
Hey Gang, Just wanted to show off our little estuary stick baits we got made by "JPS Custom painted Lures" (check him out on facebook) we thought he did a great job and priced the lures really well. The lures were custom made for our facebook page "Bearded Fishing Crew" which is a bit of fun we have going between myself and a few of my bearded buddies check it out if you want a laugh!
cheers!

40 Mile Beach Lauching
Submitted by lucky1973 on Thu, 2014-02-06 06:20G'day guys
I'm looking at Launching a 7m glass boat from 40 Mile beach. I have not been there for years and can not remember how much water you have at high tide ( on the neap ). Has anyone use this ramp with a large trailer boat? If so what is there to lookout for.
Thanks

Couldnt wai til Friday
Submitted by lawndered on Wed, 2014-02-05 20:15Was sent this and thought it was a cracker:
A Scottish love story
>
> An elderly Scotsman lay dying in his bed. While suffering the agonies of impending death, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favourite scones wafting up the stairs.
>
> He gathered his remaining strength, and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning on the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort, gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled downstairs.
>
> With laboured breath, he leaned against the door-frame, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven, for there, spread out upon the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favourite scones.
>
> Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of love from his devoted Scottish wife of sixty years, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man?
>
> Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself towards the table, landing on his knees in rumpled posture. His aged and withered hand trembled towards a scone at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked by his wife with a wooden spoon .......
>
> F*** off she said, they're for the funeral.

Snorkeling - Free diving Exmouth
Submitted by Bodie on Wed, 2014-02-05 10:52We've planned our annual boys trip up to Exmouth for April this year, and we have a couple of new blokes coming along who are keen to do some snorkelling and spear fishing out from Exmouth. Some of the other blokes are also keen to get in for a swim.
Now we have done a little snorkelling over the years up there, but wanted to see if you guys could give a little more info on free diving and spear fishing out around the islands.
Plan to take a look out around Flat / Surrurier Island in 2-8m Depths. I cant see to find any info on any marine parks out that way? Only for the Murians, and Ningaloo itself? Also from what I've read Peak island shark activity is a lot higher, and I can understand why with the huge amounts of bait and tuna along the current line out there.
As everyone is fairly new to the spear fishing scene, is it advisable to use wetsuits? The water is quite warm up there so getting 'cold' isn't really an issue from what I understand? can only think it may help with buoyancy?
The other question is on the sharks. The last time we got in the water the boys didn't even see the sharks in close proximity (There were 3 I saw) and we were only snorkelling not far off bundegi. Want the boys to understand what its going to be like if sharks start to appear, I for one don't have an issue with the sharks up there unless a big tiger says hello, but don't want any of the boys freaking out if or more to the point when a shark turns up.
What's peoples experience with spear fishing and sharks up there. Do they get nice and friendly and have a crack at any speared fish? What's the best way to keep your fish away form any interested sharks? Hold up out of the water whilst heading back to the boat or keep in water and close to you?
Do any of you use shark shields up there?
Cheers
Bodie

Captain Gordon's Chumline
Submitted by bushmechanics on Tue, 2014-02-04 20:30Hi fellow fishing friends
A few years ago I purchased some Captain Gordon's Chumline 180ml.
For the life of me I cannot remember where I bought it from.
Wonder if there is someone that has bought it recently with in Australia, preferably WA, and if so where did they get it from.
Any help with tracking this down would be great.
Cheers

My Father-in-Law wants his arms stretched
Submitted by Dizzy on Tue, 2014-02-04 07:22Hi all,
my father-in-law has been over from the UK for 2 months and is going back on Friday.
A manic work schedule and crap winds in-between have only seen us out on the water twice on our short trip down Busso way.
A job postponement has seen me get today off, so we're heading out now from HILLARYS.
He wants to catch "a big strong fish" so I figured it'd be good to watch him cry trying to get in a decent sambo (he's soft)...... Without getting sharked.
Has anyone been having any luck in closer or are they all out deep now ?
This will be his last chance for a few years, so any heads-ups will be greatly appreciated.
i'll be sure to post a vid of him squealing if it comes off :P
Dizz.

Exmouth & Coral Bay - Crew needed and Accommodation Available
Submitted by Simo_ on Mon, 2014-02-03 22:27Hey everyone.
Im doing my yearly trip to Exmouth (25/4 - 16/5) and Coral Bay (17/5 - 31/5) - House booked at both.
The usual deckies aren't available this year for the first week 25/4 - 3/5, I'm looking for keen fishos who want to come along with me.
There is also accommodation and deckie spots available for the other 2 weeks I'm in Exmouth and the 2 weeks in Coral Bay. This might suit someone who has there own boat and crew as both houses have room for another boat.
I thought I would just put it out there and see whos interested.
Post here or PM me for more info.

Montes pearl farms. Why did they close?
Submitted by pricey10 on Mon, 2014-02-03 21:14After going to the montes a few times and searching on google. I still can't find a decent answer to why a place with 100years of pearling history and so many old pearl farms but now has nothing. Evan dampier had pearl farms at some stage. Sounds like that would of been a dream job quite a few years ago. Any info would be much appreciated, thanks

rigging for trolling for macks
Submitted by unhurry on Mon, 2014-02-03 16:24Hi all,
Will be doing some trollign for pelagics in the near future and asking for advice on the rigging.
I run 25lb braid on overhead reels ( pflueger, shimano - love to get a marquesa 16) and I understadn that the lack of stetch in the braid can be a disadvantage when trolling for pelagics as that means more lsot fish from hooks being pulled ( ? or gear being pulled overboard
).
I have a fluorocarbon leader tied to my braid - usually slim beauty to bimini twist int eh braid - about 2 rod lengths.
I would like to get opinions as to whether this f/c leader has sufficiant stretch to overcome the problems associated with braid for trolling?
I am suspecting that it is not adequate and that I may need to have a mono leader of say 40pound of say 20 metres tied to braid on reel side and to wire swivel -> wire trace on lure side.
New to this style of fishing ( usually bottom bouncing or floaters) so thankfule for any pointers.
Separate question: when underspoooling the braid with mono, do you use mono the same poundage as the braid or the same diameter, or "whatever"?
Thanks

Lancelin Charter
Submitted by Browndog on Mon, 2014-02-03 14:28Hey all, does anybody know of a charter mob that will operate out of Lancelin? Heading up in March for an extended boys weekend, and wouldn't mind getting some fishing in, but don't fancy the idea of getting up around 3.00 to make it to Jurien.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Cheers,
BD
