Comparing bag / size / boat limits
Submitted by randall df223 on Mon, 2011-11-21 21:45I bought the Nov/Dec ed of trailerboat fisherman yesterday at Brisbane airport (I needed something to read on the flight back from the Gold Coast!) and on p10 under the SA news, the writer reminded readers of the regulations in South Australia for Blue Swimmer crabs. Legal size 11 cm (compared to our 127 mm), bag limit 40 per person (compared to our 10), and get this... a boat limit of 120 when three or more persons are on board!!! (compared to our 20).
How the f..k could anyone eat that many crabs???
I think our fisheries are being very well regulated. I just wish the Fisheries Officers had the resources to catch the mongrels that abuse the rules.

Needs some South African help
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2011-11-21 15:46Unfortunately my Aunt in the Strand is not travelling so well after a bowel cancer op, so I am dashing over there for a check on her (as a Doc) to see what the story is then let the mad crowd over here know whether they should all dash over. Flying tomorrow at 1145. Mostly around strand and my cousins are mad keen kabeljo and elf fishos, so once things calm down might head for a fish to clear my head.
Might pack the Stradic CI4000 and a saragosa 8000, but no rods. Just get some over there as travellers. I havent got one. Any location advise please let me know asap because they are working people and I might have to wing it.

Moveable reel seats
Submitted by Rig on Sun, 2011-11-20 23:08Hi Guys
I am chasing a movable reel seat so I can lo mount my ballistic occasionly.
I have seen a particular style on some saffa, english and american video's but cant find any in oz be it instore, online
This guy is using them in this clip to mount his reel, they are kind of like a pipe clamp you can do up by hand
the full kits that are like a normal reel seat that clamps on wont fit over the butt

Bimini Trouble
Submitted by Walker on Sun, 2011-11-20 20:215 years ago i purchsed a new chivers meridian with all new bimini covers/clears. Unfortunately the boat sits out the front of my house 24/7 and the weather takes its toll. To begin with i covered the boat with a large tarp. But this only caused more issues, Mould, tarp scratching paint, Tarp wearing the corners of biminis (caused by wind). The actual canvas is ok but all the stitching has erroded on the sunside out. So my question is? is it usual practice to replace your biminis and clears every 5 years or is there more i can do to help prolong the life of my biminis. I wish id spent a few thousand more on a hard top.

3 Mile Whiting
Submitted by JohnF on Sun, 2011-11-20 20:03Played it safe this morning with the strong easterlies, deciding to stay inshore.....original plan was to head to Rotto for some shallow sambo action, but glad we didn't as the 20 knot easterlies changed to 20 knot souherlies quite quickly.
Had a quick squid close to Hillarys waiting for the wind to drop, then headed to my favourite sand whiting spot where we hit a bunch of very fat whiting, nearly all over 25 cm and biggest 30 cm.
Deliceous in beer batter tonite!

Farrrk!!!
Cant realy see it but bimini to cats paw to Richter swivel (ar almost $9 bucks a pop intact, 80lb leade sruffed through. 45minute stuffed. Must have been a noah of some size, but fought like a GT with incredible durable runs, never came to the surface. Was a snell drift righ with a stomping fat mulie on it aiming for throut. Water deeper than 12m (18exact) in we skull grad them away from Taxman.
Still wont forget the smooth as sild drag on the stell and the great curve in the Samurai. Awsome combo and sore for the no flash fill. MRS just points and shoot.

experienced barra fishos
Submitted by walkdady on Sat, 2011-11-19 21:09Hey guys,
Just broadening my knowledge for the greater good. In terms of baitcasting reels used for chasing freshwater species, mainly barra. What is the best?
Im from a saltwater background and know that the saltigas and stellas set the precedents for lower models and other brands. What is the case with baitcasters? I have done some research and seem to be getting the idea that Shimano have the curado and chonarch as well as the core. Diawa have the Z2020H and the Zillion. Then there is the abu revo MGX which won the icast 2011 award.
What reels do you guys look to as the top of the line, what sets the precedent?

HDS-10 - 2KW T'DUCER?
Submitted by Septimus on Sat, 2011-11-19 19:24Hello All,
I was hoping some of the electronics gurus on this site can let me know if a 1KW Airmar t'ducer (with supplied wetbox) is the most powerful t'ducer available for the HDS-10, or, can 2 or 3 KW t'ducers be hooked up to (and utilised by) the HDS-10 headunit?
Also, I am hearing a lot about the new "CHIRP" t'ducers - so the obvious question is when/if they would be an option to hook up to the HDS-10?
