Bimini Trouble
Submitted by Walker on Sun, 2011-11-20 20:21
5 years ago i purchsed a new chivers meridian with all new bimini covers/clears. Unfortunately the boat sits out the front of my house 24/7 and the weather takes its toll. To begin with i covered the boat with a large tarp. But this only caused more issues, Mould, tarp scratching paint, Tarp wearing the corners of biminis (caused by wind). The actual canvas is ok but all the stitching has erroded on the sunside out. So my question is? is it usual practice to replace your biminis and clears every 5 years or is there more i can do to help prolong the life of my biminis. I wish id spent a few thousand more on a hard top.

Cover goes over the t-top
Cover goes over the t-top covers the whole boat and tucks under the chines. Its reinforced where it rubs on ttop and i put some rubber/foam where it touches the canpoy material. So far so good.
Any pics of your boat.
I was in with the chivers guys on Saturday, i,m sure they will be able to hep you out

I've got my canvas bimini in
I've got my canvas bimini in being re-stitched at the moment. if you go for another soft top, consider using yacht acrylic instead of canvas (i will be). the material will cost a bit extra but will probably out last the boat! it is very UV resistant. the stitching will always need re-doing every few years, but that will be the same whichever material you go with. Morley Canvas Repairers are re-stichting mine for about $40. If I had easy access to a heavy duty machine I'd do it myself (I was a sail maker in a previous life).
Fish! HARD!
