Denham fishing
Submitted by Troyboy on Sat, 2026-05-02 13:48We went up to Denham last week and the weather was pretty amazing for a few days, we found octopus the best bait but as for artificials smaller lightly weighted grub style stuff seemed to get a better quality of fish and no sharks, a few snip offs from the makeral but overall better than bait due to no sharks. 3/8th Oz jig heads with the old zman my go to. We went out with no marks and relied on the sounder, don't let the catfish scare you off as some of the best fish came from the same areas, 9-11M slow drift with some lumpy ground on sounder is all the advice I can give. No eskys full but a few decent fish and we were happy.

Onslow fishing and mudcrabbing- help needed
Submitted by Mackdog tackle on Mon, 2026-04-20 07:48Hey guys,
had a last minute shuffle of plans from Exmouth to Onslow for annual fishing trip so feeling a little unprepared. Heading up in a couple of days and looking for any pointers for Onslow? Assuming around Mackeral islands would be pretty smashed but how about the other smaller islands closer in to the east? Or best to head west to Long Island areas.
also seeking info for mudcrab options either hooking or drop netting..
appreciate any help
cheers

Evolution 600 boats
Submitted by Gerhard Jacobs on Tue, 2026-04-14 09:24Hi All,
I am currently looking for a new boat and have looked at a few options. Some way too expensive to even consider, but there are currently an Evolution 600 Extreme at Rockinham for 130k and 1 or two second hand ones across Aus.
I am after some honest advise on the quality of these boats and if you would recommend them, especially if you own one. Looking at the newer hull design post 2013 I believe.
Mostly use my boat for offshore fishing, diving and couple of overnight trips to the islands across WA. These boats seems to tick a lot of boxes in terms of deck space, stability, finish work looks good. Obviously from what I read you sacrifice a bit of ride quality for stability, however, coming from a 550 aluminium boat I am sure ride quality would be leaps better than my current setup.
Looking for any advise, recommendations.
Regards
Gerhard

More Restrictions
Submitted by The Saint on Sat, 2026-04-11 20:12Heard on the 6PR fishing show this morning that the daily bag limit for crabs is to be cut to 5 for the entire Southwest bioregion.
Apparently this is to simplify things as it is already 5 for the Swan River and Cockburn Sound.
Death by a thousand cuts, bit by bit we are losing what we love doing.

Exmouth 2026 holiday rant.
Submitted by blu2fish on Tue, 2026-03-24 13:15What a bloody dilemma been booked into our annual Exxie trip starting on the 5th of May to the 27th and now it's too late to cancel as I'll lose 3 weeks of fully paid rent being under 60 days, could have got it back if over 60 days. Ol' mate Trump knows how to give me the "tom tits" for sure but hopefully the fuel prices don't go much further north, question is there other Fishwhreckers in the same leaky boat and up there around the same time? Turn 79 ANZAC DAY so was thinking and I'd get another 12 months of demersal fishing in and along comes Jacquie Jarvis and now the Orange Idiot to upset the apple cart. Think setting up a Go Fund Me for a fishing trip would go down like a turd in the punch bowl on Christmas Day and as successful as my Lotto tickets, rant over.

Beach rod
Submitted by Sea goat on Sun, 2026-03-15 15:20Looking to back back into a bit of beach fishing, but am in need of a new rod. Will mainly be for chasing fish like salmon, tailor, maybe lobbing a bait out for the odd try at a mulloway. Was thinking of pairing it with either a Seragosa 10000, or 6000, or a pen slammer that I have already. Any suggestions on a decent rod? Not looking for anything too fancy, probably looking to spend about $250 or so.
also any suggestions regarding most versatile length ?
any advice greatly appreciated!
cheers!

Fish tonnage
Submitted by piscetor on Mon, 2026-03-02 18:07I'm still trying to work out how they can work out how many demersal fish are taken by rec fishers. Not everyone that goes out catches them not all fishers target them. So do they just throw a dart at the board and say that's how much was caught this year by rec fishers. They say the science is right but how does the science work it out when they cannot hand on heart ount every fish pulled over the gunnel.

Onslow area.
Submitted by Roughas on Sat, 2026-02-28 11:46Has anyone fished (from small boats), along the coast from Onslow south to about the Harding River area? I know it is as tidal as buggery but parts of the coast look interesting. Any first hand knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks, John.
