Pinks Galore
Submitted by The Saint on Tue, 2025-10-07 14:51Managed to get out a couple of times last week.
Took the missus out on Tuesday, then headed out again on Thursday with my grandson and his dad in their boat.
Could NOT get away from those rare and critically endangered pink snapper on both days.
Tuesday we bagged out by 8:30, then caught and released anther 2 while cleaning the boat up, biggest went 86cm.
Thursday was much the same but took a little longer - 10:30, biggest going 87cm.
Released another that hit a bottom meat 20-30 metres from the bottom as I was winding in to pack up.
Such a shame they are almost extinct ........

Reckfishwest
Submitted by sealure on Fri, 2025-09-26 07:37Good old reliable QUANGO Reckfishwest at it again. Their latest bulletin full iof motherhood statements & BS. Rather than challenging & demanding verification of the science concerning Demersal fish they give support to the Governments propaganda as expected.
I have absolutely no doubt that if the recreational fishing community was presented with hard evidence confirming the exact threat to Demersal fish there would be widespread support for whatever measures were needed to reverse that state.
Few if any of the regular fishing community have any faith in the veracity of the so called science being offered. Reckfishwest should be literally screaming for research details. Of course that might lead to loss of Government funding. HO hum.

Exmouth Car and Boat Trailer Storage
Submitted by big john on Thu, 2025-09-25 13:15G'Day Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has a contact for some place I can store a car and 7m boat trailer in Exmouth? Any businesses provide this service that any one knows of?
Alternatively, how safe is it leaving the car and trailer at the Exmouth boat ramp car park for a few nights?
Usually on a Montes trip I'll leave at the Fortescue Boat 'Ramp' no worries at all, not sure on Exmouth though.

fishwreak members we have a problem
Submitted by mikeurnot on Sat, 2025-09-20 08:08
I am buying a ford range to tow my new caravan slowly making my way up the coast from Perth and into N.T then back to Broome .
I have 2 one piece fishing rods 4.7 meters long one is for egg beater and the other one is for a Alvey .
Problem with the ranger the roof rack holder are a swing out type to go acroos the car with the one on the tub slides back to give you length .
I have been looking for away to make them theft proof to lock on to roof rack .
Is there some way to do it or should I just sell rods and buy I think 4 or 3 piece same lenght .
Hope some one out there has had the same problem up for suggestions .
Cheers

Where to take little ones fishing around Margaret River
Submitted by wrasse magnet on Fri, 2025-09-19 19:23G'day everyone. Taking my two young nephews down to Margaret River next week, looking for a recommendation where to take them to catch a fish, any fish will do, looking for a location that is safe for little ones (7 and 10) and does not require beach rods. Thanks in advance!

It's coming.....
Submitted by The Saint on Thu, 2025-09-18 15:30Saw this today, it's not looking good for us.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-18/stricter-fishing-rules-flagged-in-wa/105789778
One section reads "Previous attempts to reduce catches have failed to adequately recover fish stocks, according to the Department of Fisheries.
"The management measures did reduce catches, but they weren't effective enough," the department's executive director Nathan Harrison said."
I'm still stuggling to understand how doubling the Dhuie limit and removing the minimum size could be considered an attempt to reduce catches.
Oh, and I just heard the fisheries minister, Jackie Jarvis, on the radio, she was spouting that the threatened snapper were RED snapper.
What hope have we got....

Freshwater tips
Submitted by Sea goat on Sun, 2025-09-14 15:41 Hi guys.
im taking the family camping down at potters gorge, Wellington dam in a couple of weeks. I was hoping to take the kids fishing for some trout or Redfin, but don't really have any freshwater gear. Just wondering if I could get some recommendations on rod weight and line that would be appropriate? Also any tips on lures, or bait/hook size would be awesome! I've only ever really flyfished in freshwater, so this is new to me, but think would be a great way to get the kids enthused!
any advice greatly appreciated!
cheers!

Westport - Artificial Reef Survey for Cockburn Sound
Submitted by Ush on Tue, 2025-09-09 16:32Gday all,
Westport have put out a survey to gauge interest and thoughts on an artificlal reef for the Sound. See link below:
https://westport.wa.gov.au/about/
I am all for providing new habitats and fishing oppurtunities for those who frequent the Sound - however not at the expense of destroying what we have existing. Over the years we have bent over backwards in adjusting to the ever changing bag limits and open seasons for Pink Snapper in the Sound - and for good reason - all for it to be potentially done in vain with this new Kwinana Port.
Am I the only one who interprets this as a way to appease us fishos as they anticipate the damage that will be done?
Have your say.
Cheers

Light/medium lures and plastics
Submitted by Troyboy on Fri, 2025-08-22 18:13Just wondering what peoples go to lures are for general fishing mixed bag stuff? I'll throw a couple out there, sorry admin not sure if brand names are allowed. 4"zman streakz in new penny and the 4" McCarthys paddletail in white pearl. Pinky's, dhues, blackass herring, tuna, skippey etc love them... any advice on spangos/trout on artificials? These vibes seem to be getting plenty of attention but at $20 a pop it seems a bit steep! You could get a pack of plastics and jigheads for the same price. Cheers!
