Chivers marine meridian
Submitted by Walker on Sun, 2009-11-01 21:18Just wondering if theres anyone in the know about ali boats. I bought the meridian 2 years ago and ive had a lot of fun with it but i have had a problem with water in my sealed deck. After about 2-3 hrs of use i find the boat a bit sluggish. i found that water was getting in my sealed deck. i knew because running the bilge pump water would exit but only when we were moving. I have accidently left the bung out aswell so i know how it feels.
i took the boat back and they said they pressure tested the hull?????????well after i got the boat back the problem wasnt solved. Im sure they will help me out to fix the problem but i figre mabe i can find the problem and show them.
so what i need to know is
does water normally get in the sealed deck area?
besides the bung where could water enter?
how can i test for leaks
after 4 hrs of boating i recon i might get 10-20ltr water in the hull. i usually turn the bilge on and im right for a few hrs. because i sit lower in the water ,, i have water crashing over the rear entry door (through the gap) which gets water onto my deck in which the only way to get rid of is to drive and open the scuffers.
Id appreciate any information as im sure its not common for a new boat.

My girlfriends dad has been handed some old Abu gear:
Abu Cardinal 66 reel
Abu Suecia 352 zoom rod, 2pc, 7", 15-30g
I was wondering what these were worth these days.
The cardinal ranges from $20-100 from what Ive seen online, although I cant find info on the Suecia.
Both rod and reel are in excellent working condition.

Info on Point Samson
Submitted by MARK79 on Sun, 2009-11-01 15:23Hi Guys
A good mate of mine is coming over from south australia in a couple of weeks and i was thinking of heading to Point Samson for a week. I have never fished that far up north before and I'am unsure on what sort of fish we might encounter and what are the best times to fish depending on the tides. We are going to take a small boat with us but will also try some landbased fishing as well. Any imformation or pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks Mark79

beach fishing courtesy
Submitted by brenz on Sun, 2009-11-01 14:27Just my monthly winge:
to those who were driving a triton two tone ute with a big rapala sticker on the windscreen please be more considerate in the future!!!!!!
why you may ask? we just set up at wedge for the morning beach assault burley bag in the water with a perfect burley trail result first cast in the water and pulled a nice herring on the bait chaser when MR triton rocked up by creating a nice donut on the beach and parking 20 mt away on a beach that had no one else on it. they rigged up when a few more cars came up then waded out into the water till they were infront of our cars/ rods and started casting so we could not fish a complete piss off as the burley had created a nice bit of interest from tailor. when they had realised that our lines were over there head they decided it would be a laugh to tug on our lines!!
a few things when someone is fishing dont walk into the water infront of them and fish in the spot they were fishing
and secondly wedge is tragicly close to the end and its people like you that cut the beach up causing accidents that make the govenrment more determined to put an end to the great place we still have.
i have fished wedge for 18 years now and been up there for 23 years and it is unfortunate that this stuff has started to occur over the last 10years but lets prevent it from getting worse .

North beach 2 morrow
Submitted by fishing fanatic on Fri, 2009-10-30 19:12Hey everyone me and 2 of my mates wanna go fishing 2 morrow and we are trying to think of a spot. we cant go out on my boat as it was just put back in the water and we working on it 2 morrow morning. so we decided to go of shore. i was thinking of north beach as i have fished there b4 and when i went to go check it out i saw a mulloway just sitting there. so i basicly am asking 2 questions. 1 is there any good place to fish for things like mulloway or sharks (my stronger casting rod's reel broke so i am using a graphite and deapsea) and 2 can u spearfish at any of those spots because we wanna go early in the day to save our spot for the night and then also get in the water and see what we cant get with some spears
any help would be aprrecaited

Walpole ground?
Submitted by adamlikesfishing on Fri, 2009-10-30 16:12I went down to Walpole on Monday fished some good ground about 2-3 past Saddle Island parallel from land. Had a pretty good day for Queenies and Blackass plus an ok pinky and a Nany most caught on rods and speared a few in close... Got fish nearly every drop(threw back a load of Queenies) but got no Jews... Thought there might not be as many down there as on the west coast if not maybe they were a little further out.
Anybody know and care to share were the next line of good ground is and in what sort of depth?
Heros saying things like "get out there and find it yourself" need not reply. Just looking for a nudge in the right direction not specific marks...
Cheers

Sherbs and I went for a fish last evening and it was "seaweed soup" from City Beach and Hillarys - and probably beyond.

Lure Suggestions
Submitted by JoRn on Wed, 2009-10-28 12:35Hi Guys,
I am about to stock up on some lures for a trip up to Shark Bay around false entrance this year.
I will be mainly targetting Spanish Mackeral and other pelagics.
Last time i was up there we were using Laser Pro, but would like to know if you have other recommendations. Will be fishing off rocks about 5-10m high.
The laser pro was good but i dont think they were heavy enough to cast far.
Price Sub 30 would be nice!!!!!
Ohhh and if possible where you get em from...locally/online
cheers!

Octo-fish
Submitted by bod on Wed, 2009-10-28 12:15
Edited from the
Daily Mail Reporter
24th October 2009
According to the experts, this is the world's first recorded octo-fish.
The starfish has a remarkable ability to regenerate lost arms, sometimes growing two where there was one, meaning that six armed creatures are not unheard of, but this starfish was born with eight arms.
A normal starfish has a central disc which is effectively the creature's control centre, housing its mouth, stomach, a specialised water pump, and all its essential organs.
Star attraction: The giant eight-legged creature below a regular five-limbed starfish.
This spiny starfish has not one disc but two, fused together in a figure-of-eight shape.
Like human conjoined or Siamese twins, he could be the product of a single egg and sperm which failed to separate properly early in the process of development.
Douglas
Herdson, a Plymouth-based marine fish biologist, said: 'I think it's
probably conjoined twins. It is quite feasible that it is a conjoined
twin due to the first fertilised egg not completely separating. I have never heard of one before.'
He appears to be in perfect health and at ten inches in diameter, is bigger than the average specimen and was caught in a crabpot.
In fact, his extra limbs could be an advantage at mealtimes, as they should make it easier to grab and prise open tasty mussels.
The spiny starfish, named after the lines of bulbous spines that run along each arm, it is one of the most voracious members of the starfish family and feeds on a variety of both living and dead food including fish, shellfish, molluscs and other starfish.
It lives on the rocky seabed at depths up to 600ft and is found in the Atlantic, the English Channel and the North Sea.
Starfish use the power of hydraulics to move the hundreds of tiny sucker feet which line the bottom of each arm.
Some eat prey which is too large by pushing their stomach out of their mouth and swallowing the food whole.
New rules help recreational rock lobster fishers play a part in preserving stocks
Submitted by Colin Hay on Wed, 2009-10-28 08:47Fisheries Minister Norman Moore has announced rule changes for recreational rock lobster fishers for the coming season.
The recreational rock lobster season runs from November 15 to June 30. The new rules for the 2009-10 season are:
* a consistent minimum legal size of 77mm for western rock lobsters all season
* a reduction in the maximum legal size limit for female western rock lobsters from 105mm to 95mm, when taken between Green Head and North-West Cape
* a reduction in the maximum legal size limit for female western rock lobsters from 115mm to 105mm, when taken between Green Head and Cape Leeuwin.
Mr Moore said the measures would also apply to commercial fishers, as part of a package of measures to contain that sector’s overall catch.
“Recreational fishers must play their part in contributing to the sustainable management of this fishery by adopting the new sustainability rules,” he said.
“I have also decided the escape gap size for recreational rock lobster pots will remain at 54mm for 2009-10, before increasing to 55mm for the 2010-11 season.”
The Minister said the new rules took into account the record low settlement of puerulus (juvenile lobsters) in recent seasons, which indicated that in the next two to three years the fishery would experience its lowest catches in 40 years.
“This season, for the first time, the sectors will be managed to allocated shares of the sustainable harvest level,” Mr Moore said.
“The commercial sector is allocated a 95 per cent share, the recreational sector’s share is five per cent and the customary sector’s share is one tonne.
“This season, the commercial catch’s managed target is 5,500 tonnes, with a likely range of 4,950 to 6,050 tonnes. The target catch for the recreational sector will be 290 tonnes, with a range of 260 to 318 tonnes.”
A recreational licence is required to fish for rock lobster. Fishers can buy licences online and a new brochure on rock lobster fishing for the 2009-10 season is available at the Department of Fisheries website at http://www.fish.wa.gov.au or on 9482 7333.
