Gave the wife a present this morning. It was just wrapping with nothing inside. She said "There's nothing?"
I said "I got that for you to wear tonight."
We just laughed and laughed.

I need a place to stay....

Big fines for interfering with rock lobster fishing gear
Page Content
Two men have been ordered to pay a total of more than $87,700 for a range of joint and individual fishing offences – one of them personally having hundreds of rock lobster tails and dozens of whole lobsters stored at home and the other being found with more than 60 packaged or frozen lobster tails at his residence.

A Joondalup Court yesterday heard the men had been under surveillance by Fisheries and Marine Officers on 23 December 2013 and again on a number of days in November and December last year; before they were apprehended, interviewed and later charged.

Russell Ewen, aged 61, from Greenwood was fined $14,000 and issued with an additional mandatory penalty of $46,250 and court costs of $169.10.

Christopher Stickland, aged 66, of Kallaroo was fined $14,000, given an additional mandatory penalty of $13,200 and $169.10 in court costs.

Among their offences, they faced 11 joint charges of interfering with fishing gear that did not belong to either of the accused.

The magistrate also ordered Ewen to forfeit his boat and trailer used to commit the joint offences, along with the 230 rock lobster tails, 24 whole western rock lobsters and three lobster pots, which had also been seized by Fisheries and Marine officers.

Stickland was ordered to forfeit 68 rock lobster tails and three pots that were seized.

North Metropolitan Compliance Manager Todd A’Vard said the court had issued the appropriate penalties for the offenders.

“Cases of interference with fishing gear are difficult to prove and the good work of Fisheries and Marine Officers to build a strong case against these men was a credit to the department’s compliance efforts,” Mr A’Vard said.

“We know that many recreational fishers are out there doing the right thing and some have suffered from such illegal activities. When you set your lobsters pots there’s nothing worse than finding, or suspecting, they have been raided by someone else.

“We ask anyone with information about illegal fishing activities to not get involved, but to carefully observe what you see and give FISHWATCH a call on 1800 815 507”.

More information on WA’s rock lobster fishing rules and limits is available in the Recreational fishing for rock lobster guide 2015/16. Find that at www.fish.wa.gov.au, or collect the guide from departmental offices, or Information Outlets.

3 local freedives this week - picture heavy!

This week we had some pretty epic weather, well at least for a small 2-3 hour window. So I made the most of it and went spearing 3 times along the FFB. I dont have a GPS or sounder on board that works so it was a jump in and check the ground scenario. Found some awesome new ground along the way also.

Been running a new wetsuit the last 3 dives - perhaps its been my good luck charm.

Highlights are:

- my first speared tuna in over 6 years of diving, these fish are quick and dont hang around for a shot, lucky to land this 6.5kg stripey. Saw them busting up some bait on the surface, and jumped in and two models swum past me close enought for a shot. Next is hopefully a yellow fin on spear.

- PB 1.2kg KGW, 57cm long

- The shot on the small sambo, from the ocean floor shooting above me - long shot and landed it, stoked with that.

- Fish in the freezer again finally!

Sorry for the pics being side on, no idea why that happens or how to fix.

ps the foxy in one of the pics was shot by my dive buddy.

pps the blue groper is only the 2nd I've shot in my life.

FADS

hey guys wanting to no how the fads are doing atm we are thinking of trying out luck.

Challenging night boating skills

I fyou want to test your skill competency at boating at night, take a trip down the various canals at Mandurah.

The traffic on the water is like the causeway at 5 o'clock on a work day. Boats, launches of all sizes with a wide variety of skippers with some, and no knowledge of the "rules of the road" are as thick as.

A lot of the houses have really gone to great lengths to put up a lot of yule tide decorations and are very impressive. However if you are the skipper you are only going to snatch a quick glance at them as you will be very busy keeping a sharp look out for all the other boats doing the same thing in very confined waters.

Hats off to the local water police for doing a great job on the water with help to those who perhaps might not feel comfortable being on the water in close company with so many other boats that range from 3 metres to 20 metres.

It's well worth having a look at and being on the estuary with the kids who are all oohs and arrhs at the lights.

good eating size today

Magic conditions today. fishing was a bit slow but managed  a feed

Great day off Two Rocks

Had an amazing day on the water yet again. Was asked by a couple of work mates from eastern states to guide them on there first trip out of Perth. Left Two Rocks around 5:30 and streight to one of my go to spots to see if I could get them there first Dhuy. Well almost every drop resulted in quality fish with with multiple 8 to 10 kg Dhuys coming aboard almost every drift. All were brought up slowly and released well. Kept 2 and decided to head out for a troll out wide. These guys were set up for serious game fishing but I had my doubt about any results to be honest. But to my amazement after two hours of trolling one reel started to scream like I've never heard before. I was told to grab the rod and hang on. So I did. Then to my amazement a 250kg ( there estimate) blue marlin leaps clear of the water 50mtrs behind the boat. 300mtrs of line peeled of at high speed until suddenly everything went slack. It was gone and so was the lure. I was absolutly stunned at what just happened. Didn't even care that we missed the fish I was just in shock at what just happened. Trolled for another few hours with no results but didn't even care. My day was perfect and these guys were so appreciative of being put onto some good fish. Defiantly one for the books.

Feet from God

Still Pmsl . Sometimes a little sun can help. Better than fish photo:):):)

Help - Beach Launching @ Lancelin

Any an all advice for launching at Lancelin beach/s appreciated. I have a 19 foot centre console fibre glass and a 200 series cruiser. Where do I launch from, what do I need to be mindful of and phone numbers if i F@#k up and need pulling out quick smart.

Cheers

Lots of baby dhuies and a few sambos vid

Another couple of dives off bunbury. There was about 15 dhuies but none size on the first dive You cannot see them all in the video as the water was not clean

enough. On a big screen you can see them better. We always seem to see lots of fish when all the baitfish are around.

Dhu bag out this morning - with sounder shot

Finally managed to get out early this morning for a quick fish. Had a great session with a 65cm and then 55cm Dhu coming in the first 30 minutes. An undersize pinky and 2 small Dhu and a fox fish were all returned. Then the sambos moved in in a plague. If you hooked 1 there would be 10 more follow it to the boat. I have a sounder pic somewhere I will add which looked awesome. No pics of the fish but here is the deckie fighting a sambo.

EDIT: Added sounder shot of the sambos.

wedge island shacks asbestos report

just found this story on the abc , not looking good id think for the wedge community ,
makes you wonder if this might be the catalyst for removing them and opening it up for other developers

story below
hezzy

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-22/wedge-island-shack.jpg/7048466

Two Western Australian seaside shack associations will meet the authors of a report which examines asbestos levels at one of Australia's largest shack communities.
The report by independent consultants found more than 250 shacks at Wedge Island and Grey, south of Jurien Bay on the state's mid-west coast, appear to contain asbestos-related material.
Murray Knowles from the Wedge Island Protection Association said it would work with the Department of Parks and Wildlife to appropriately manage the asbestos.
He said the association would meet the department and the report's authors in mid-January.
"It's the issue of what to do to make sure that it's managed in an appropriate way and health issues are addressed," he said.
"So that's what we want to find out with the presentation.
"We need to hear the presentation and have those questions answered or other information supplied before we make a formal position on it."

Steep point sharks

Anybody been to the point recently going back not till April first time back for a couple of years.

How have the sharks been as far as taking your fish and what did you catch?

Anyone else struggle out there today?

Hey fellas

My brother and I finally managed to get out today (been probly 6+ months due to having shoulder surgery), we launched from ocean reef and headed about 17k's west. There was plenty showing on the sounder but couldn't tempt anything for the esky!

We persisted for a while using almost everything, placcies, metals, and bait until trying a scout for spots in closer for the same result.

So to conclude, we brought home the usual.... naught! It will be a year on the 27th since we've brought a demersal home. Are we doing it wrong or did anyone else have the same issue?

Steve

Living the dream...Cook Islands style

The time has come to change things up a little. The wife and I will be leaving Australia in the new year to take up a position for 2 years in the Cook Islands managing a small beachfront resort on the Island of Aitutaki (Matriki Beach Huts). Included in the resort is a fishing charter with our own boat so you can guess how excited I am about that. Those of you who know me know that I have been involved in the Western Australian fishing scene for some time now so Im really looking forward to putting those skill to work over there.

I will put up regular updates for those interested, and for those interested in coming over for a family holiday or fishing trip just PM me and I can fill you in.

The main target fish over there are Yellowfin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Marlin and Mahi Mahi. Casting on the reef with poppers and stick baits you can expect giant GT's, Some you can even hand feed in the lagoon haha. The other thing Aitutaki is well know for is its Healthy population of world record sized Bonefish. So if you are into your fly fishing this is the place for you.

As a holiday destination for the family you cant beat it. Its very laid back and relaxed, The snorkling in the lagoon is safe with an abundance of tropical fish, Diving on the out reef you can expect 40 - 50 m of vis most days with water temps of around 28-30C

Those of you who want to follow our journey I have started a blog www.matrikiblog.com or you can follow us on facebook "Matriki Beach Huts" or instagram.

Looking forward to maybe catching up with some of you whislt we are there.

www.matrikibeachhuts.com for more information.

Cheers and Farewell

Paul and Lisa.
