Submitted by Mayfly on Mon, 2016-01-11 11:06Should I bring a gaff to eshed? If so, what size do I need? I also heard you can climb down near the water but I don't know if this is true.

Stolen Gear Busselton
Submitted by Comrad on Mon, 2016-01-11 08:21Hi Everyone, I'm posting on behalf of "Top Notch" here on the forums who's recently had some gear stolen, but is unable to put a post up at the moment.
Hey Fishing family, keep your eyes open for someone trying to sell an ugly stick with penn reel, fitzroy barra rod with a shimano Calcutta 400 reel, mares cyrano 900 speargun and a roller-pro 1100 speargun. Someone decided they would help themselves to them out of my boat last night down in Busselton and I wouldn't mind catching up with them. Spread the word to the wider fishing community and see if we can track them down. I'll try and get photos of the gear but all recognisable the ugly stick has John Dyer written on it. Cheers in advance.

Looking for some advice on bull shark fishing in the swan
Submitted by Mayfly on Mon, 2016-01-11 00:41I'm looking to catch bull sharks in the swan river (prefferably around Bassendean area) and I need some advice.
Are there any locations that anyone is willing to share or is ok to just try for them anywhere? And is there a certain time to be targetting or can you get them all year around? I wouldn't mind setting up for an all night session if that's what it takes to catch one :)
Any advice and tips appreciated.

Marron - Busselton and surrounds
Submitted by Pezdog on Sun, 2016-01-10 13:48Hey guys
Staying in Busso at the moment for the next few weeks and looking to get amongst the Marron. Is there anywhere close by I can try without having to stay overnight? Looking to just give it a go for a couple hours and try to get a couple for a feed.
Understand locations are secret so if you want to PM general area that's fine.
Also is it better with a snare or is a drop net ok?
Cheers for the help guys.

Airmar M260 ( in hull )
Submitted by hooty on Sat, 2016-01-09 15:48One of these on ebay from a 100% seller in Port headland for $500, a bit over 2 hours left on auction. Has connector chopped off but very easy to resolder the correct pig tail. No bids yet so a potential bargain with free postage included. No connection to seller, just browsing and spotted it.
Cheers.
Bi-focal Sunnies
Submitted by clarky29 on Sat, 2016-01-09 15:19Hi, I am looking for any info on what type of Bi focal sunnies you might use for fishing. I was looking at something along the line of uglyfish, you can get them in +1.5 ,+2 or +2.5. Just wanted to know what you use or do you get prescription sunnies. Cant see to tie my knots any more. Cheers.

PVC Pipe for Occy pots
Submitted by Tom M on Sat, 2016-01-09 14:38It has been a long time ago that I used to used PVC pipe method to catch occy, I have been told it is now illegal to use anything other than than a new version of occy trap, is this correct. Sounds like another money grab for some one.

Plastic dinghies
Submitted by Ashen on Sat, 2016-01-09 14:09Hi guys
Anyone here own or have experiences with plastic dinghies, especially the Finn Spin-drift series? I'm looking at getting one, 2.4-3m for river fishing. Will be powered by a small outboard. Some parts of the Swan and Canning are excellent for fishing, but accessing those places are not ideal with a 19ft boat! Haha

Crayfishing float devices (GTR's)
Submitted by Tom M on Sat, 2016-01-09 13:55Read comments recently abot pot poachers and various devices available, see attached link. It may be a little technical but where in the rules for crayfishing does it say that your float needs to be above water? I know it says they must display details and they will, just something to create a discussion out there.

Leeman fishing
Submitted by Bodie on Sat, 2016-01-09 09:57heading up to Leeman over the Australia Day long weekend with the lads for a 4 day fishing weekend and looking for a bit of general fishing info from anyone who has fished up that way?
ive fished Jurien a few times but not much further north. Will be chasing both a few demersals and pelagics like mackerel and hopefully a yellow fin or 2.
wonderinf if anyone can provide a bit of general info of the ground out from there? Seems on the charts the 10-12 mile bank out from jurien does not extend up to leeman?
Assume the back edge of the 3-4 mile reef is likely to hold macks and maybe tuna, water temp up around 22 degrees up there at the moment.
in the event we get some cracking weather we may attempt a deep drop whilst we are at it, anyone given that a run out of leeman?
any other general info would be greatly appreciated, anyone else up that way over that weekend?
cheers

Shore Catch Update
Submitted by Mick C on Fri, 2016-01-08 11:54Firstly I would like to wish Members a Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support and encouragement. There is no doubt we will continue our FW sponsorship into the future.
After spending quite a bit of time designing the shop front graphic, my good mate from the east (we have been mates since I was 2) flew over for the install this week. It is amazing how printing technology has moved on and needless to say I am very happy with the end result. We tried to make it quite clear what we offer and this is now up for all to see. There is still a bit more signage to come but it is good to have this bit over, and the Showroom now has a “real” feel to it.

WA Fisheries has granted my Fish Processing Place and Fish Processor Licences. The decision to grant was advertised on 3 December and there were no objections from “affected parties” so the licences issued on 6 January.

What this means is that we can now make burley for sale and process and package our own baits. This couldn’t be done before the licences issued but now we can start to prepare so that we have a supply when we finally open (likely to be 1 February). Although, if any FW Members would like to “get in early” you are welcome to send me a PM and I will let you know when things are available.
Although the second-hand dealing stuff has caused a bit of controversy, my licence has been issued by the WA Police. As I have stated previously, we intend to operate a consignment only business for “higher end” equipment and we have the licences, secure premises, processes and relevant insurances in place. It is important however that a suitable, simple English, consignment agreement exists and I have now prepared a draft as below. I would really appreciate any comments that Members may have regarding the draft agreement.

It feels like we are on the home straight regarding set up however there is still a lot to go. We will be at the premises from now on so if any Members would like to drop in and say hello you are more than welcome. We are now actively seeking goods for consignment so if you have anything that you would like to display, please let me know. A FW Member has already provided some gear that I know Members will be very interested in and I will publish details of this in due course.
Our web site will change significantly in the next few weeks as we detail the products and services that we can now offer from a purpose fitted out showroom, and I will advise when this has been done.
Thanks again for the support and all the best for 2016.

I hate platypus line
Submitted by stonedpirate on Fri, 2016-01-08 10:34Hi all
I was new to alvey reels a couple of years ago when i bought my first one. I now have 3. Because alvey recommends the use of low stretch line, I always bought platypus lo stretch for all 3 reels as it was the only one that said low stretch on the box ![]()
After two years of being snapped off by small tailor on 8kg, small sharks on 15kg and last night on a small bronzie on 24kg lo stretch, i have had it with this line.
If i bought 1000m of 24kg tortue, is that going to explode my fibreglass spool when i hook up to a shark?
I read a forum post about a guy who used 15kg berkely big game and his reel exploded 10 minutes after spooling it.
I like alvey reels but i hate lo stretch platy.
Dont want to kill my spools using random line.
What would be a suitable alternative for 600m+ of 24kg?
Thanks

Halaco crazy deep lures
Submitted by mikeurnot on Thu, 2016-01-07 22:47Just need some tips on getting the crazy deep do go down to 7 meters. I have the lure tied to the main line via the split ring. Trolling at 4 to 6 knots but the lure just stays on the surface. Distance behind the boat is about 30 to 40 meters.
Cheers.
