Clown of the week thread
Submitted by Subaquatic on Mon, 2016-01-25 04:51Seems like there is always at least 1 clown at the ramps each week.
Here is my submission for this week. This joker thinks he is so special he can just park in the wash down bay.

Breaking waves?
Submitted by Hazzadazzlaa on Sun, 2016-01-24 22:12Hey guys,
I was wondering if 3 mile out of hillarys actually breaks in water around the 10m mark or even deeper?. If so what swell size and period would i need to watch out for.
What im trying to achieve is to sit out around the 10m to 20m deep water approx 3 mile out of hillarys and hoping not to get caught by a sneaker set. Happy for private pm on where i might search for my first size dhui on me little 4.2m.
i have navionics both on my phone and fishfinder and would not attempt on bigger than 1.5m swell. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Harry

Golden Ponds Barra
Submitted by TomN on Sun, 2016-01-24 15:58Hi Guys,
I went down to the golden ponds today in mundijong and had a fish, the back pond behind the shop is stocked with barramundi but it was crowded so i went fishing at the other ponds but they were muddy and wasnt any fish so after a whilei went to the shop and i was told the barra were taking lots of lures and bait so i fished there and caught a nice little barra on my 8 pound bream gear. they are very good fun and i will be back there soon for more of them.

Fishing Metro South vs North river by Boat
Submitted by Jason P on Sat, 2016-01-23 17:35Got to thinking on people's thoughts on fishing the Metro area South vs North of the river by Boat.
As my usual launch point is from Woodies, and on rare occasions Rockingham.
Woodies is like 3km from my house so it's just so easy and convenient but have never launched from any Northern metro ramps
So is there any benefit that North has over a South that would make it worth while a trip?

Rod recommendations
Submitted by Daneox on Fri, 2016-01-22 12:11So a mate of mine has been given a Saltiga Dogfight 7000h and a JM Power Spell PE7, both spooled up and ready to go.
(Yes, given....for free....and no they weren't acquired in a dodgy way)
The problem is he needs a rod for both of them.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a rod to match both of these?
Preferrably try to keep the price as low as possible, but all recommendations appreciated.
Cheers
Dane

First crab feed
Submitted by Broome lad on Wed, 2016-01-20 19:34When out with the boss after work yesterday to get first feed of crabs for the year got our 20 fairly easy but threw a lot of undersized and empty ones back also learnt something new which might come in handy for those that don't know it was new to me but made sence and came from a professional crabber if you press on the underside of the shell where the swimmers are (see pic ) and its soft and pops in and out then it's empty which make sense at that is where the best bit of body meat is the pros call them poppy crabs and throw them back , anyone else heard this ?

Cray Pots
Submitted by emem on Wed, 2016-01-20 17:33For whatever reason over the past couple of days, the lids of some of our cray pot bait baskets have come up opened . Even after further tensioning the elastic strap, the same thing has happened the following day. The lids appear to be a snug fit and do not open with absolute ease, even when we try to open them as we normally do. There is no consistency about the problem as we have had both lids open on one pot and only one on another ( we use pots with two bait baskets and operate 4 pots with 2 licenses). Have had this happen on the odd occasion a few weeks back also.
Any thoughts or advice of experiences would be appreciated.

Current State of Yardie Creek crossing
Submitted by ranmar850 on Wed, 2016-01-20 12:32Has anyone been near the Yardie Creek crossing lately? Back in the middle of the year it had been scoured right out by the two big rain events earlier in the year, impassable at any tide. As in up to the roof of a cruiser at low tide, as at least one fool who tried it without looking found out. Is the sand coming back to fill that big hole between the north bank and the end of the rock bar?

Dhuie jig
Submitted by Jimmysparks on Tue, 2016-01-19 17:44Got my first dhuie on a jig last weekend, even if it was undersize. Caught on pink/white 80 gram y2 jig. I think I needed a 120g as we were in 40m and the current was a bit quick for the 80. Before I go and grab a couple of 120's, what's everyone fav dhuie jig and colour for that depth. Bitten by the jig bug now.
