Halaco crazy deep lures

Just need some tips on getting the crazy deep do go down to 7 meters. I have the lure tied to the main line via the split ring. Trolling at 4 to 6 knots but the lure just stays on the surface. Distance behind the boat is about 30 to 40 meters.

Cheers.

Never had a problem with a crazy deep not going down.. I have had them skip a bit when you first put them out but i usually deploy about 3-5m of line, to the side of the boat in calmish water, and make sure the lure bib bites in and the lure is running straight. If the lure has had a good strike or been knocked about sometimes the bib can be off making the lure track to the left or right.

Is it just 1 lure you have tried or different crazy deeps? Do you tie a loop knot to the ring?

Also IMO 6 knots with a crazy deep is close to the max i would be running it. If you hold the rod you will feel the strain of a crazy deep at that speed and it is quite a bit. Not saying it cant be done just my preference.

Personally I have struggled

Personally I have struggled with the crazy deeps aswell. I much prefer the Rapala X-raps as they tend to stay down much better. I have found that every now and again with any brand of deep diving lure you will get a rogue one that won't swim properly so might pay to try a few out.

Loop knot to the split ring.

Loop knot to the split ring. Don't use too heavy a leader and don't troll them short or fast. Slower the better.

My favourite lure for trolling up trout. Too bad my boat doesn't go slow enough for them anymore.

Never an issue. As madmerv said I normally deploy at around 4-5k. Just slowly let them "bite" next to the boat and once they are down just controlled freespool until you have the desired distance. Only issue is once weeded up they are on the surface, but then so is any other lure.

 I was told halco started

Fri, 2016-01-08 15:26

I was told halco started manufacturing overseas and that's when they got worse apparently they used to be made and tuned in Oz I never thought they were great any way, l like my xraps mate

If there that bad pull the bib off and they swim alright as a floating stick, cast and retrieve

When JohnF post's you take notice just look at his metro fish!

All of the ones I have act

All of the ones I have act like poppers as mentioned above, that is until I 'tuned' them and they now swim ok.

I had to 'tune' them a lot more than expected, bendng the tow point almost 45 degrees to get it swimming straight

You would think

you could get a free replacement. I have had many halco products that needed fine tunning

Halco 190XDD

Halco 190XDD are periodically known for not swimming straight out of the packet due to the deep bib design. They take more tweaking then any other lure but we agree with the boss man Ryan as that lure is one of the most productive lures on the market. Yes you have to tweak the bib and after a descent catch as mentioned but with great results it's a hard one not to put in the spread.

If you dont want to tweak a lure then the Halco 160XDD and Rapala X-Rap Magnums are great and one of our favourites.
