Greens Pool - Denmark ???

Anyone familiar with Greens Pool down Denmark way. I have seen a few photos and it looks beautiful and I here there can be good fishing there.

Is it OK for kids? Or can it get dangerous?

Can you fish from the mainland rocks..... or do you need to get onto the outer rocks?

Am heading down that way in a couple of months. WOuld love to have a few spots planned so I dont spend hours driving around looking for a good spot. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Easterly Winds = Poor Fishing?

I fish pretty hard & it's very rare for me to miss out but I've been drawing blanks since these easterly winds started up a week or so ago. I've chased Flathead, Tailor, Tarwhine, Mulloway & Black Bream over the last week & missed out on each trip. I can't remember a time when I couldn't catch a Black Bream it's been that long since I missed out on them. Looking back through my fishing log I can see a pattern of less fish when the easterly winds are blowing & I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing?

Fishing fundraiser in November

Hi guys,

Hopefully the whole angling community can get behind this, should be a great night for a good cause. It is a fishing fundraising evening, with all money raised going to cancer research. Plenty of fishing industry support already.

We are just finalising the details over the next couple of days.
But here is the info as it stands...

What: Fishing Fundraising Dinner
When: Sunday, November 27, 6pm onwards
Where: Terrazza Cafe, 767 Canning Highway, Applecross
Cost: $65 per head
Bookings: Pay at the door, or group bookings to Al Bevan on             0412 131 958
Info: A night of fishing tales tall and true for a good cause. Former Channel 9 personality and keen angler Mike Thomson will MC, and there were be a number of prominent angling identities in attendance. There'll be raffles and auctions on the night.
All funds raised will go to cancer research.

ALSO, we have 20 spots on three charter boats - Shikari, Saltwater Charters and one more - available on the day. Again, all funds raised to cancer research.
The cost for this special fishing  day includes dinner and is $350 per head, we will have the spots for sale on the WAngler website ASAP and it will be first in, best dressed. Will put up a post when these spots are for sale. Anglers will be randomly allocated to each boat, but all boats will be fishing together on the day.
Furthermore, we will auction off six spots, two on each boat, on Ebay closer to the event.  These spots will go to the highest bidder and each winning bidder will also pick up a brand new jigging outfit as well. Dinner is of course included as well.

A few images from the weekend landbased fishing comp

Hi guys, Just a few images from the weekends fishing comp. Great job in organising Sherbs.

What's that saying....

"My worst day fishing is still better than my best day at work....."

Well today, the closest I got to seeing a fish was the one the nearby shag caught and flew away with!  We certainly didn't threaten the whiting stocks off Hillarys today!

Any other good fishing quotes???

any advantage?

hi guys just wondering if their is any advantage to having a land based game rod instead of just a stroker??? i am fairly new to this so any advice on rods tackle rigs etc would be great thanks guys:)

Motor Trouble, after service

 Hi All,

Hope you are having a good weekend.

Recently I posted a thread relating to my 2009/10 yamaha 25 hp motor having problems ( Motor would run full speed/revs for the first half hour or so and then after that couldnt reach max speed)

I got the motor serviced during the week for $400 and got told all has been fixed and motor is running fine.

Went out today to have a run around and have the same problem.

Can I call the service shop and see what the deal is with it not working? Or does any body have any other suggestions?

Regards James

been looking abit on on trusty google earth and looks like a few possibilities but it can be decieving.

Just wondering whether its worth an explore, any knowledge out there?

Albany Landbased Sambos Ytk's and Tuna??

hey guys just been trying to round up some info on the big south coast sambos and ytk's and some methods of catching them from the rocks. sliding and balooning lives seems to be a good start and was considering casting some jigs to. ive seen and hooked some before but never regualry target them and wondering if there is any tips as to get fairly consistent results instead of them just randomly showing up while chasing blue grouper or salmon. also would like to try and get a landbased tuna down there to so any info regarding times of year there around and places they tend to show up or anything to look for other than the usual birds...

thanks.

chris.

Shallow Sambos in Comfort

Me, Daz and Matt went out today for shakedown of Matt's new 285 Boston Whaler Conquest, complete with twin 225 Verado's......mmmmmm, nice tug!!!!!!

Headed to our shallow water Sambo spot in 40m......and it was red hot action from the get go. A fish a drop for a couple of hours, sore arms, sore backs and big smiles......MAN, those sambos go so much harder in shallow water!!!! A great day or catch and release.

After all 3 of use were comprehensively smoked on PE3 gear to start, out came the PE5 gear.......after a few rats, first on a good fish was me........after 5 seconds it became obvious things were not going well.....so the Stellas got cranked up to max drag, then another turn for good measure!

Then it was Daz's turn. He grabbed my Stella as he only had PE3 max (which was useless with these fish)...the old SEED getting a workout.

Then the Skipper got in on the action, afair bit of spool grabing on the 'gosa.

We continued like this for many more fish, and ended up snapping the butt of my SEED jigging rod, which made Daz's next capture that bit more difficult.....nice big fat boy....then it jizzed all over him.

With sore arms and the fish going mental, we decided to head out and check out the barges........DONT BOTHER......very few fish biting, we only got one hook-up fromm many drops, and it got hoovered by a shark, so we left immediaely. Sorry to say, the wrecks are going to be a no go zone this year....

We headed home, and checked out a mark in shallow water we saw on the way out with a good fish show. I quickly droped a jig down to check out what there were, and netted this nice flattie (dinner tonite....yum!) and then a solid dhu which was promptly release weighted back home, we plugged that spot in for 15 December, and headed hme in shear luxury in te awsome Boston Whaler Conquest.

GREAT DAY, thanks Matt!!!!

Electicity in the air

Was out fishing this morning during the rain and lightning. After the first downpour we could hear a buzzing noise. To my suprise the rods in the rocket launcher were humming with the electricity in the air. A little while later the antenna started humming really bloody loud. It was actually a bit disconcerting.

Was there anything to worry about or is that sort of thing common place?

My mate had other things on his mind at the time as he enjoyed his breakfast on the way back up. Poor bugger...he he. :)

Fatal shark attack at rotto

Just heard a securite on the marine radio. Apparently a fatal shark attack at one of the bays at rotto. Didn't quite hear the name but I think little Armstrong bay? Should be more details out soon.

VHF radio

Hey guys,

I need to score a new VHF for the boat.  Does anyone have a link to the best deals around?  My 27meg is buggered so I believe I will need a new VHF antenna too as they are different.

Have seen some icom radios in USA website for $140

Great White caught by arrogant fisherman.......this sucks!

Check the link;

http://www.timeslive.co.za/ilive/2011/10/21/fisherman-caught-catching-great-white

With regards to sport / game fishing - if you know the rules and overstep the boundaries, and get caught red handed, do the honuorable thing and let the law take it's course. Arrogancy and fishing dont go hand in hand!!

What's your thoughts on this?

(By the way - I am an ex saffie, this is not how we fish - this is one of the most isloted, horrendous stories I have seen to date!)

2moros weather

whats your thoughts on 2moro?

was thinking of going, but i think its going to be lumpy, might wait for a better day i think.

who is heading out?

advice for a jigging/popping reel

Im off to Bali in 2 weeks and will be heading out jigging for dogtooth and popping for some GT's. Im not too familiar with the gear to buy. Im also planning on doing a 3 kings trip next year so hopefully being able to use the reel over there too. Ive currently got a saltiga 35LD which i could probably use for the jigging if it came down to having to buy a specific popping reel.

Ive heard of a few guys buying a 10000 stella and then purchasing a 16000 spool is that right?.. but i dont want to buy it and find out ive done the wrong thing. Any advice will be helpful as im super new to all this.

Cheers

Sha

Upgrading your own drag

i have done a quick search and couldnt find much.

i have just bought a shimano saragosa 18000F and am wanting to upgrade the drag washers to carbon. i have found some carbon washers on ebay from the states and woudl like to do it myself.
have many people done this themselves before. i have found one website which has some basic pictures and instructions.

let it be kown that i would take it to a tackle store but living up north i dont have that option in my town....

thanks

Freezing mudcrabs

Hi guys

My parents are coming up for a visit in a couple weeks, and they want mudcrabs!

I dont have much time off work whilst they are here, so I dont want to waste fishing time mucking around crabbing when we could all be out in the big boat.

If I was to catch a couple crabs before they arrive, what is the best way to store them until they arrive.  Freeze them raw or cook em first?

Anyone got ideas?

Do sharks like garlic & ginger???

I was searching through the freezer for bait last night..... and I stumbled accross 3 average tailor (35cm?) frozen, wrapped in foil and stuffed with garlic, ginger, chillie etc. I pinched them while the wife wasnt looking and am gonna use them for bait tonight !! Hope Sharks like garlic??

Just until I manage to catch a herring or something else to send out for a bigger fish.

I'm not after any serious answers..... just thought this was funny.

P.S. : I hope you guys fishing the comp tomorrow night do really well. Good luck.

Dhufish research extended

Dhufish research extended

Portfolio: Fisheries

  • State Government invests more than $280,000 to important research projects
  • WA scientists to examine recruitment for dhufish
  • Aerial surveys of recreational fishing impacts extended to regional areas
Fisheries’ research projects will be extended with new funding from the State’s Natural Resource Management (NRM) strategy.

Fisheries Minister Norman Moore said $112,000 of NRM funds would boost a research project that had already helped to increase knowledge about juvenile dhufish.

“Dhufish is a major indicator species for health of the West Coast Demersal Scalefish Fishery, so this extra funding will be important to enable more survey work to be conducted across a wider area to understand more about the likely habitats of young, small dhufish,” Mr Moore said.

“WA dhufish has benefited from management strategies to reduce the take of the endemic species, following concerns about overfishing in the West Coast Bioregion.

“By knowing more about the habitats that juvenile dhufish prefer we can monitor the recruitment success of dhufish, to provide better information to managers and commercial and recreational fishers before these fish appear in the fishery.”

Additional NRM funding of $170,000 has also been allocated to a recreational fishing aerial survey project which has already established this method as the most effective to determine the fishing patterns of recreational fishers.

The Minister said surveys had been undertaken along broad stretches of coastline and the extra funding would now enable the monitoring of recreational effort to be applied to popular regional fishing sites.

The extended project would help establish non-agency partnerships for better assessment of the recreational fishing impact.

“Researchers involved in this project have built a solid understanding of the recreational fishing patterns along Perth’s coastline, through the comparison of aerial observations with counts of anglers from cameras and interviews of anglers at beaches, jetties and groynes,” the Minister said.

“Traditional boat ramp surveys have not always picked up how high the level of beach fishing activity is in WA, which has been complex and expensive to assess in the past.”

       Fact File
  • In December 2009, the juvenile dhufish research began with $225,000 NRM funding
  • Understanding recreational catch and effort is critical to sustainable fishing
  • In December 2009, Fisheries research into monitoring methods began with $300,000 from NRM
