New to the area with a 4.5m side consol, and wanting to get out there for a run (if its worthwhile of course) also, where might be the best place to head out from (Back Beach ???) any advice would be emensly appreciated!

Dunsborough Yellowfin whiting?
Submitted by hlokk on Fri, 2010-01-01 10:31I'm headed down south next week and hope to get a bit of fishing in (in between all the surfing).
I've heard of yellowfin whiting being caught around the Dunsborough/Quindalup area along the sand flats there. One species I havent caught but keen to go see if I can hook into a few. Is there any tips anyone has for catching them? E.g. time of day, tide, gear, etc. Ideally I want to get some on plastics or fly but maybe i'll revert to crawling some squid tentacles along just to be sure they're there
Probably will try for some squid and snorkel for a few crabs after dark too. If any fellow fishwreckers down there at the same time want to catch up for a fish or a surf, let me know.

Gold band trip
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2009-12-31 17:55While up in Exmouth for xmas we took a run out to Adam and Jeffs favourite goldband spot.We dragged the billfish gear on the way out with no success so it was out with the bottom gear.Grandson Alex got his first goldband,Jeff got 3 and I got a big nor west blowie untill 2 big dolphin fish showed up.It was a quick tie a hook onto the spare rod---bottom gear with 30lb braid,a bit of bait and after a quick fight which we taped and released it to fight another day.Still trying to work out how to upload the clip.
Things went quiet so out with the billie gear and not two minutes later we had a sailfish on just long enough to get a good look at it jump twice and throw the hooks. As far as fish goes that was it for the day.Ran in to Adam and Renae doing their bit to temp a billfish without any luck.

Rod and reel recommendations
Submitted by Kane H on Wed, 2009-12-30 19:10At the moment i have a 15 foot Shakespear ugly stik Gold surf rod and a Shimano Seido 10000FA reel.
Heading up to exmouth for some landbased fishing and wanted to know what i should get for another rod and reel. Want a setup to fish with bait and a setup to fish with lures.
Was thinking the surf rod would be good for casting the baits out but not ideal for using lures. Also thinking the reel is good for lures. So probably looking at buying a rod for lure fishing and a reel for the surf rod. Any recommendations? Budget approx $300.
Thanks for any help

Mandurah help please
Submitted by John the Pom on Wed, 2009-12-30 16:36We're going down to Mandurah for new year and I hope to get a bit of fishing in.
We'll be landbased and staying at theMandurah holiday village. My parent are visiting from the UK, but my Dad is practically wheelchair bound due to arthritis in his knees.
Would someone be able to point us in the direction of a few fish? I've had a quick look on google and we're close to the south end of Silver Sands, is this any good for Tailor? Also, there is a promising looking jetty for my Dad to use on Breakwater Parade, any info about what we can catch there would be good (Herring etc) and what it would be like to fish there.
If anyone has any other suggestions for somewhere that's still close to the village, let me know, as long as it's not too far away as I've got a few other kids and a wife to keep happy.
Cheers
John

Mondays Fish
Submitted by Seaquest on Wed, 2009-12-30 11:00With my mate Ian down from Pannawonica I decided to head out for a fish. Got to the Quindalup boat ramp at 6.30am and it was packed. Managed to get the last parking bay. Got around the cape only to find boats everwhere in close so decided to go try a spot I found recently that was a good way out. First drop and I scored a nice pinky. After several drifts and a few more smaller fish I headed out a bit further in the search of more ground. After a couple of minutes driving came across a couple of nice fish on the sounder. Ian hit the bottom first and was on to an average fish. All of a sudden the fish came to life and really started to take some line. We all called it for a big dhuy but as it came into view realised he had a double header of dhuys. The smaller fish (60cm) was in good condition so decided to release it. With a good feed in the esky we called it a day. When back at the ramp there was talk of large tuna being spotted west of the coral lumps. Did anyone else see or hear of this? Some of these tuna were ment to be huge.
