Woohoo! Happy days!
Submitted by monstaf1sh on Tue, 2014-01-07 09:26Went down to my regular land based spot just for play with my new combo throwing various lures. I got my first hook up on the vibe, it was looking like a decent 30 until it fell off right in front of me, which was my fault really as it was getting dark and I let the line go slack, I was spewin!

Shallow water Shenanigans
Submitted by beau on Mon, 2014-01-06 16:40Headed out Sunday, planned to fish inshore because of the strong wind forecast. Had a ripper day fishing no deeper than 11m of water, what small boat fishing is all about!
I usually like to be out pre-dawn and have a decent burley trail going by sunrise but piss farted around at home and anchored just on sun-up. Missed the first couple runs but then the fish started hitting the deck. Been wanting to get onto these little sharks for a while now, stoked to finally get stuck into them. They go great guns on the light gear. Boated 4 or 5 all around the same size and got bitten off by a couple boatside. It was the Hour of Power.
Brother started to feel a bit green as was I for the conditions were not too pleasant early so moved onto a reef to start casting to keep our minds busy. Took a while to find the fish but had a blast casting plastics and stickbaits with the tailor gear.
Couldnt tempt the bigger kings into hitting the lures so nabbed a herring for bait and that accounted for the bigger fish and a couple hungry rats just trolling him around behind the boat. Watched a massive tailor come up and grab the herring but missed the hooks so we ended the day with a couple lures out the back but were just getting harassed by 50cm specimens.
Check out the bite it was a seriously big tailor!
Cheers,
Beau

Mandurah estuary mixed bag
Submitted by commocean on Fri, 2014-01-03 13:59Saw a cobbler lying in a weed patch while i was wading the flats this morning and had my net handy so with a little effort, managed to scoop it up. It measured 49cm.
i also caught a 47cm, 1kg mullet that put up a really good 15 minute fight on my new 2-4lb black label. Also got a few average whiting.
ps. Wouldnt mind hearing some cobbler recipes.

south coast land based chaos.
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-12-29 11:21 had a bit of time off work lately and we have been smashing the fishing and diving pretty hard with some more amazing catches from some more beautiful parts of our south coast. few of the better ones the last couple of weeks are, kingy on jig off the rocks, 20kg LB sambo on 40lb, monster harley on a live herring, bonito and salmon around in force, more blues both line fishing and spearing.

Swan Session
Submitted by CityFlicker on Sat, 2013-12-28 08:23Snuck out for a couple of hours this morning to flick hardbody lures around some snags. Landed 2 bream, one around 24cm the other about 30cm. Had a big hit & run from another but failed to set the hooks properly. Was just about to call it quits when I got another hookup. This fish gave a pretty good account of itself on the 3lb braid & 6lb leader & I was stoked when my 1st mulloway on hardbody came into view. It's only about 40cm but still it's a mulloway on a hardbody so that's another one I can tick off the 'to do' list.

A few demersals
Submitted by Noxious on Thu, 2013-12-26 14:57G'day
Took a mate out for a quick demersal bash. I started out real slow, with my mate landing a monster queeny and a nice baldy. Then it was my turn with a decent dhu and a good blackass to even up the ledger.
All in all a good day on the water, trolled around rotto briefly, with some weed getting stuck on our lures. Didn't catch anything while trolling, weed was annoying and already had an asky full of fish.
Dhu was low 80's in length.

Yallingup Banger
Submitted by Lamby on Sun, 2013-12-22 19:19Tiimmbo kindly sent down some crays with a mate of ours BG whom is down on a family holiday, he was keen to get out for a fish with his bro in law & so I managed to sort out an early session for them today. I happily played skipper until the black anchor started playing up with the warning beep hitting hard in no man's land, funnily enough as I was going through the checklist of what could be playing up a boat following us from the Quindalup pulled up alongside. Cool, told the boys to throw the drifty & drop down to see what they would do, they followed suit… funny shit! Tell tale was humming, cowling was sweet, no fuel or oil issue… stumped.
Roared off to give it some stick after it subsided & no issue, the pinger in hot pursuit so I dragged him past a bloke setting his drift & he decided to stay there (sorry mate). 5nm further & the phuckin' beeping again & going into limp mode, checklist… nothing, everything sweet. Turn her over again, no issue!! Anyway back to the report & if anyone has any ideas on the issue I would be stoked.
Got to the marks & after a few drifts the boys both drop 2 big dhuie's, not our day. BG then loads up on a beefcake & plays it well to the surface floating well out, I call it for a 20, it looks bigger than a 20 & measures in at 112cm beating the boat record by 3cm.
Yep he's a monster
No lie detectors on board so had to wait for the certified wife's scales at home, comes in at 18.2….. bullshit, I start accusing her of taking two kegger's of the digitals (doesn't go down well). Can't believe it at that size not to break the 20.
BG's brother in law also got himself a nice mixed bag of a hooter BA & Foxfish as well as this double header
Rode home early at a leisurely 13knts & no drama's, weird outboards.
BG is bringing home some fillets for ya Smitty

MARRON!!!
Submitted by Higgo77 on Sun, 2013-12-22 15:42not long until the season opens for 2014! always look forward to getting back home and having my yearly marron fish. Just thought I'd add a photo of the 130mm beast I caught last year (to wet everyone's appetite)! we always get a lot of the 90mm to 115mm but 130mm this day and age is a real cracker. I remember as a youngster it was a regular catch in my local river but it's not the case now unfortunately.
I've added a photo of a 92mm up against the 130mm.
Good luck to anyone venturing out this season! Cant wait!!

Exmouth Billfish - video added!
Submitted by catch.fish on Sat, 2013-12-21 09:21Just got back from a few days chasing billfish with Josh from Onstrike - weather was pretty atrocious all week but we toughed it out and got amongst some serious billfish action! This trip was for a couple of the young fellas birthdays so I took a bit of a back seat and did a lot of filming and helping them out. Got lots of great footage - big smiles all round with all the lads getting onto there first billfish and spanish macks having only ever caught whiting & herring before this! Was a birthday I dont think they'll forget anytime soon!!

Finally something to post!
Submitted by sstevee on Thu, 2013-12-19 12:12So it may not be the monster dhu's some of you fellas have been posting but managed to get out Tuesday for a bash and after a year of owning my 4.75 bayhunter it's finally brought home its first demersal.
I've spent quite alot of time getting the boat to where it is now renewing the trailer including new springs, complete re-wire/electrics upgrade of the boat, getting the motor up to date with maintenance including water pump and carb rebuilds, and much more. I have definitely spent alot more time working on the boat than fishing from it and its somewhat paid off.
Decided to push out further than the 3mile after gaining some confidence in the boat and spending a bit of time on the water. Managed to find some ground in the mid 20's out from hillaries with the new sounder (fcv-620) and ended up boating 2 baby dhu's which were quickly released, a nice size foxfish which went back due to not being 100% on I.D at the time and my brother managed a nice size KG and I picked up the first demersal with a 41cm Baldie!
As I said not much in comparison to others but we were stoked to finally get two great table fish. Yet to boat a size dhu or snapper but very happy that time invested has given back
Cheers
Steve

south coast is just crazy, never ending insanely good fishing.
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-12-15 21:01Another weekend with a lot of variety and some more crazy fish.
Saturday we went to a stupidly remote place 2 fishers and 2 divers, 4x4 into it on some crazy tracks that are all erroded and washed out or overgrown and im fairly sure cars havent been down it for a very long time, we dived the calm side but water was dirty so grabbed 5 big abalone and got out with a flatty as well. Dropped our catch at the car and went to find my brother and mate who went to the rough side that was a lot deeper, found them down a 130m high cliff and went down the ropes they had tied to get down to them, Aron has landed 2 grouper on jigs and smoked by another much bigger one. we mucked around for a bit more before Aron has hooked up on the 20lb setup and a whole crab, few minutes later and up pops his biggest grouper of the day. got it up and then we called it a day and headed back into town.
Sunday we didnt have anything planned other than work on the car and fix it up after the previous days abuse and i woke up late and Aron has already left to go for a fish. with the weather being so nice i went for a dive after lunch with a mate and and ive picked up a nice sized little blue and michael is waving a silver fish at me from a fair way away, swam over and noticed it was a dhuie. was thinking to myself geez that looks a bit small but as ive got close ive seen it and the barstard has got himslef his second albany dhu at 61cm from 6m of water 50m off the rocks. all i could find was a few small dhu's and i spent ages diving the deeper 15-25m water along the back edge to find one and michael has got one in the shallows on top of the reef against the rocks haha.
Got back to the car and checked my phone and got an update from Aron and Ethan and both have picked up sambos off the rocks at a spot close to town and Aron has got his first sambo off the rocks around 10kg on 20lb gear and a live skippy on slide.
Another weekend over but that gives us time to prepare for the next trip and find some new spots to try out and hopefully find a few more good fish.

More just plain epic fishing from the south coast
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-12-08 23:22 what another insane weekend along the south coast for us. lots of fish, screaming drags, few firsts and an old curse of mine lifted!!!
saturday we went out rock hopping to a remote location we found on google earth, trecked it in using ropes to get to the lower ledges but finaly made it there and groper where the first target, first cast for my brother and Ryan resulted in them both getting a nice grouper each about 5-6kg on unweighted crabs, they both where released and my first cast resulted in an absolute smoking on "groper drag" by a fish i couldnt even turn before it burried my in a reef ledge. mucked around with bait and jigs and picked up a bonito and 4 nice big black arse. packed up and headed to a spot half way back to the car that looked promosing and Aron has hooked a nice fish that is giving him a lot of trouble on 40lb and his 8-12kg rod and poor calatina 5000 is singing away in protest, few minutes later up pops a nice 12kg fish that we gaffed and kept, few more casts and ive picked up a rat then home time and the rest of the walk back out.
sunday last minute a few of us went down to a common ledge and Aron slides a live herring into some deep water before hooking a monster sambo or king that quickly burries him on stupidly tight drag!! That was a BIG fish!!!
now a gummy shark off a beach has been a goal of mine for a good few years now, always either weatched others catch them, lost them at my feet or had something else go horribly wrong and one way or another ive missed out so tonight i gave it a good crack at a beach out of town and i broke the curse!!! 10KG LAND BASED GUMMY!!!!!! over the moon with this fish on my 20lb setup and a strip of herring and first cast of the night!!
