Young lads first Mack

It's smiles all around. The lad got into his first Mack. Should not have taken so many years to do, but the sea isn't kind to him most times. A big thank to Tangles and Groveepants for their help at Kalbari. The son was using the Penn 320GTi that my wife used to catch our first Marlin. Wasn't planned that way, just how it turned out. The other rod out got a bite off moments before the GTi loaded up. As little kids I told them time and again ... Fingers and toes away from the nose.... And he still remembers :) .

So we are dining high on the hog tonight, IMO, and will have a go again tomorow morning :) ......  42deg C here today, so it's pool time and a few coldies. Thanks again for the helps gents.

My 5 weeks off at Xmas

I have just had 5 weeks off over christmas with the plan of doing everything fishing related, so here is a brief brag about my 5 weeks off!!

1st week was all about the crays and getting some for christmas dinner. This has been the first season that I have gone for crays so I was a little worried that I wouldnt get any. As soon as I got home from work the cray pots went in on the monday putting them on lumps I normally fish in the 20 metre mark. First pull was 2 days later on the wednesday... first 3 pots got 6 crays and all were tar spot females... Pretty depressed we headed over to the last pot which I had set near a lump that was 5 metres tall and only about 5 metres wide.... BAM!! 17 sized crays in 1 pot, had to return 1 so we didnt go over the limit. I then pulled all the other pots in and set around this lump. Every day after that we were in undated with crays and over a week and a half we got a total of 65 crays. I decided to pull the cray pots in after I had 2 stolen and the other 2 pulled and moved!!

The second week saw the start of the demersal season and with the weather looking brilliant on the monday I re-set my remaining 2 cray pots on the saturday so that we could pull them on the monday on the way out to get some fish. Monday morning came and we headed out to the cray pots..... And guess what.... 1 had been stolen but luckily there was still 1 on the spot. Pulled the pot and almost busted a pooper valve doing it which resulted in 18 sized crays!! Extremely stoked we re-set the pot and headed out wide in search of a dhu..... Wasnt an extremely productive day on the water but ended up getting 1 dhu, 3 baldies, 1 small sambo, 2 stonker king george, 1 black ass, a wobby gong and a strip tuna (cray bait) Sank alot of corona so we were pretty happy by the end of the day!!

So the first 2 weeks were going great, however the wind wasnt too kind over the christmas and new year period so I didnt get out on the boat. I did however get to go for a cruise up to Kalbarri to spend New Years there. The party at the pub was awesome and they played great older music that you could sing and dance too...... The only bad thing was that on the drive up there the w@nker boys in blue decided to give me a yellow sticker for a LED light bar and fishing rod holders on my bull bar.... I offered to take them off on the side of the road but they were complete dicks about it!! took them off and got the car over the pits in early January.... Complete waste of time and money.... Would have thought there were other crimes they can spend their time with!!

Anyhoo early January saw the opening of marron season, so with the yellow sticker now removed I headed to Bunbury to pick up my mates and head to our reliable marron spot. Openning day saw 32 marron caught (4 of us bagged out) all were over trophy size even tho we werent fishing in trophy waters! the next night we headed to Harvey Dam to join every other man and his dog out there... In 2 hours we caught 4 so we decided to go back to our spot. We were there for just over an hour and a half and we had another 12 to bag out (Only 2 of us this time)

So with the end of my holidays in sight and the depression starting to kick in before I went back to work I was thinking of 1 more fishing activity that I could do...... Sitting around sinking gods gift to man (Red cans!!! Export) my mate says "Prawns would be good right now" so off we trotted to a spot I know where we could get a feed of prawns all year round.... Was a fair bit of hard work but we were able to get a bucket pull.... Being wayyyy to drunk we decided to cook the prawns the following day!!

So all in all the holiday was pretty good with alot of fishing getting done and alot of seafood getting eaten.... See below

Cheers fellas!!

Gotta love holidays

Some new toys to use.

Just went and picked up my new reels, can't wait to get out to use them. Just have to put line on and ready to go.

Swan Crabs

Quick pic of one of the crabs caught late last week.  the wee one wouldn't hold the crab without marigolds on her hands (it was dead at this point ) All crabs were well over size and full of sweet flesh !!

South west huge tailor

Thought I'd share a pic of a tailor me step brothers dad caught on New Year's Eve while they were camping . Measured to 95cm

have just put another pic up as ive just received it off me step bro and it hasnt even measured properly but is actually bigger than 95cm by the looks but well just keep it at 95cm to save arguments

nice 55cm swan river flattie

got this big girl in about a foot of fast flowing water only 4 or so meters from the bank.  Went 55cm and put up an awesome fight on my trout gear. Bucktail I  jig did the damage again.

couple of recent sharks

here's a couple of sharks from this summer, also lost 2, 3-4 metre models after a 3 hour fight! anyway got my first land based tiger yesterday so enjoy the pics, released both of them and watched the swim off strong!

Dhu on plastic

Last Sundays effort, dhuies were going nuts on plastics, cheers to Robbie for taking us out. your a legend!

Woohoo! Happy days!

Went down to my regular land based spot just for play with my new combo throwing various lures. I got my first hook up on the vibe, it was looking like a decent 30 until it fell off right in front of me, which was my fault really as it was getting dark and I let the line go slack, I was spewin!

Cursing myself I continued to cast with the light fading fast, I didn't feel confident anymore with my vibe thinking if there were any bream around they were probably too smart to go for the vibe again, so I change up lure wacking on a minnow. On my second cast my lure gets slammed on the pause and I knew this was gonna be good, with line peeling off with the sound of braid rubbing through the guides and with good splash near the end. I land the fish sliding it up on the ledge and I was a happy man with not only landing my biggest bream but my biggest bream on lure.
It went just over 40cm nose to tail.

Shallow water Shenanigans

Headed out Sunday, planned to fish inshore because of the strong wind forecast. Had a ripper day fishing no deeper than 11m of water, what small boat fishing is all about!

I usually like to be out pre-dawn and have a decent burley trail going by sunrise but piss farted around at home and anchored just on sun-up. Missed the first couple runs but then the fish started hitting the deck. Been wanting to get onto these little sharks for a while now, stoked to finally get stuck into them. They go great guns on the light gear. Boated 4 or 5 all around the same size and got bitten off by a couple boatside. It was the Hour of Power.

Brother started to feel a bit green as was I for the conditions were not too pleasant early so moved onto a reef to start casting to keep our minds busy. Took a while to find the fish but had a blast casting plastics and stickbaits with the tailor gear.

Couldnt tempt the bigger kings into hitting the lures so nabbed a herring for bait and that accounted for the bigger fish and a couple hungry rats just trolling him around behind the boat. Watched a massive tailor come up and grab the herring but missed the hooks so we ended the day with a couple lures out the back but were just getting harassed by 50cm specimens.

Check out the bite it was a seriously big tailor!

Cheers,
Beau

Mandurah estuary mixed bag

Saw a cobbler lying in a weed patch while i was wading the flats this morning and had my net handy so with a little effort, managed to scoop it up. It measured 49cm.

i also caught a 47cm, 1kg mullet that put up a really good 15 minute fight on my new 2-4lb black label. Also got a few average whiting.

ps. Wouldnt mind hearing some cobbler recipes.

PB pink

Nice pink went 81 also got a sambo at 61

Mandurah Crabs

The kids got these scooping in Mandurah on Xmas day.

south coast land based chaos.

had a bit of time off work lately and we have been smashing the fishing and diving pretty hard with some more amazing catches from some more beautiful parts of our south coast. few of the better ones the last couple of weeks are, kingy on jig off the rocks, 20kg LB sambo on 40lb, monster harley on a live herring, bonito and salmon around in force, more blues both line fishing and spearing.

Swan Session

Snuck out for a couple of hours this morning to flick hardbody lures around some snags. Landed 2 bream, one around 24cm the other about 30cm. Had a big hit & run from another but failed to set the hooks properly. Was just about to call it quits when I got another hookup. This fish gave a pretty good account of itself on the 3lb braid & 6lb leader & I was stoked when my 1st mulloway on hardbody came into view. It's only about 40cm but still it's a mulloway on a hardbody so that's another one I can tick off the 'to do' list.

Bream session today

 Hello everyone

I went for a flick in the swan early this evening I landed few nice fish also some nive sized taylor.

A few demersals

G'day

Took a mate out for a quick demersal bash. I started out real slow, with my mate landing a monster queeny and a nice baldy. Then it was my turn with a decent dhu and a good blackass to even up the ledger.

All in all a good day on the water, trolled around rotto briefly, with some weed getting stuck on our lures. Didn't catch anything while trolling, weed was annoying and already had an asky full of fish.

Dhu was low 80's in length.

Broome xmas turkey

Sent by a mate Xmas day.

Fun Day

Some photos we had during our tour. Fun day that was.

Sunday on the swan

Six hours 8 blues.... Slow start to the season!

Quick run this morning

Early run with the boys that missed out yesterday, another pinger with some briefs words exchanged (that time of year I suppose). Moved off to another mark but found some new ground that was lit up, one drift & done for the day.

Damon with a big girl

Getting the comparison pic with his buddy to rub it in

Yallingup Banger

Tiimmbo kindly sent down some crays with a mate of ours BG whom is down on a family holiday, he was keen to get out for a fish with his bro in law & so I managed to sort out an early session for them today. I happily played skipper until the black anchor started playing up with the warning beep hitting hard in no man's land, funnily enough as I was going through the checklist of what could be playing up a boat following us from the Quindalup pulled up alongside. Cool, told the boys to throw the drifty & drop down to see what they would do, they followed suit… funny shit! Tell tale was humming, cowling was sweet, no fuel or oil issue… stumped.
Roared off to give it some stick after it subsided & no issue, the pinger in hot pursuit so I dragged him past a bloke setting his drift & he decided to stay there (sorry mate). 5nm further & the phuckin' beeping again & going into limp mode, checklist… nothing, everything sweet. Turn her over again, no issue!! Anyway back to the report & if anyone has any ideas on the issue I would be stoked.

Got to the marks & after a few drifts the boys both drop 2 big dhuie's, not our day. BG then loads up on a beefcake & plays it well to the surface floating well out, I call it for a 20, it looks bigger than a 20 & measures in at 112cm beating the boat record by 3cm.

Yep he's a monster

No lie detectors on board so had to wait for the certified wife's scales at home, comes in at 18.2….. bullshit, I start accusing her of taking two kegger's of the digitals (doesn't go down well). Can't believe it at that size not to break the 20.
BG's brother in law also got himself a nice mixed bag of a hooter BA & Foxfish as well as this double header

Rode home early at a leisurely 13knts & no drama's, weird outboards.
BG is bringing home some fillets for ya Smitty

MARRON!!!

not long until the season opens for 2014! always look forward to getting back home and having my yearly marron fish. Just thought I'd add a photo of the 130mm beast I caught last year (to wet everyone's appetite)! we always get a lot of the 90mm to 115mm but 130mm this day and age is a real cracker. I remember as a youngster it was a regular catch in my local river but it's not the case now unfortunately.

I've added a photo of a 92mm up against the 130mm.

Good luck to anyone venturing out this season! Cant wait!!
