67kg Bass groper
Submitted by woody on Wed, 2014-04-02 17:42
This picture was in todays Esperance Express newspaper and reported as "a commercial fisheraman caught this 67kg Bass groper" Now obviously the picture doesnt do it justice or the guys scales are a little bit out ( he does own the local fresh fish shop) Not sure about it though...especialy when you compare it to Ryans 52kg model. I might hunt for another pic....

steep point 2014
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2014-03-30 20:15 just got back from a week up at steep that was just insane!!! hand down the most pelagic action ive ever seen landbased. 6 of us fishing completely bagged out in 4 days and just relaxed for our last day and a half.
just posting my photos as some of the boys want to use theirs for articles ect but anyway highlights for me where, PB mack, first mack spinning, big marlin over 80kg smashing my bait only 100m out, sails all over the place, huge tailor from down the coast a bit, macks in palgues, sharks for fun off the beaches and demersals just everywhere.
what we kept, 20 pinkies, 17 baldies, 11 jumbo crays, 14 spanish, 1 sharkie, 1 longtail, 1 yellowfin, 1 sail, 1 estuary cod, 1 coro trout, 2 red throat emps, 1 cobia and lots more we used as bait or released. absolutely magic trip with some of the best weather ive seen up that way and we all had a ball and got stuck into some great fish. To me this is why LBG is addictive

Hillary's surprise
Submitted by Hutch on Mon, 2014-03-17 18:00Headed out with my mate yesterday off Hillarys.
After a few fairly uneventful hours on the water we moved to a spot of my choice which my mate thought was complete crap. He took a bit of convincing but we dropped anchor and immediately got amongst lots of good herring and a few yellowtail. Soon my circle hook got bitten off on 6lb leader so we reckoned there may be a few snook about. I upgraded to 40lb and instantly got bitten off very cleanly again, so I tied on another hook and chucked out again. A repeat with a few scuff-marks so I put on some wire calling NW blowies as we didnt think anything else in the area was capable of doing this damage but didnt get any more touches.
The 10-minutes left call was made and straight away my mate's 3000 reel started screaming, his 1-3kg rod bending double and 8lb line disappearing quickly. I immediately called it for a ray and he started screaming "Get the anchor up it's gonna spool me!" so I lifted the anchor and in the few seconds it took to do so the fish had swum around to the complete opposite side of the boat. Bit quick for a ray I thought. We chased it for about 30m and at first glimpse sambo was called but after a short (2-3 min) fight a 5-6kg spanish mackerel was netted. Went just legal with the size 8 Kmart longshank hook pinning it perfectly in the top of the jaw. It took an unweighted mulie cube in 3m of water inside Little Island and we just sat there in awe for a good few minutes after measuring it and celebrating. Still amazed how it was landed.
Cheers for reading and apologies if its a bit long-winded

Freo Harbour Mackie < 14.5kg
Submitted by IDreamOfQuobba on Sat, 2014-03-15 17:35Headed out to freo harbour this morning to take out the Old dogs new flybridge cruiser. It was her maiden voyage and we were just taking her down to a pen in mandurah. Just got out of the harbour (about 1km) and decided to drop a couple Rapala xraps. No more than 5mins had past and this mack laid down the business on my Catilina 4000. Put up a noble fight to the very end
I must give a big thanks to my main man and regulator Brendo who man handled this puppy into the boat and big daddy for putting us in the zone. Good work lads !

Metro Mackie
Submitted by flexn on Wed, 2014-03-12 21:23Pretty stoked got my first metro mackie today and pretty much my first time giving it a proper crack.
At the ramp at 6:30, the easterly was up a bit so we decided to get the lures out. Headed out to rottnest, with not much on the sounder expect the odd bait school, and no birds diving. We set the spread and after about a hour my rod went off, I set the hooks and and after a short fight, I tightened the drag a bit, the fish must of turned and his tail hit the 60lb leader that busted me off. Tried for a bit more and nothing.
After a couple of hours trying different ground, we went back to relatively the same area. Just when it was looking like we were going home devestated thinking what could of been, my Saltist went screaming off again. This time I wasn't letting it get away. I left the drag lighter for this fight and managed to get him boat side where he was well gaffed.
So in the end, caught on Saltist LD20 speed running 30lb braid and 60lb leader. He measured around 120cm and was very fat and healthy looking 12-15kg. (Had a reading on the scales but not sure if I trust them)

Couple of fish from Onslow
Submitted by bluemino55 on Mon, 2014-03-10 17:16Well the bluewater is still causing me grief with where to find the good fish and a place where there are no sharks (they are out of control), so I though I would hit the Ashburton River for a lick and a troll and hit gold with a couple of barra and jacks. The barra was 98cm and was released to fight another day. Here is a couple of happy snaps from the last couple of weeks. Onslow still has a lot of secrets to unlock. I m slowly making progress. I thought I would also post a ripper DHU caught down mandurah way on jig from a mate. (Jayce you have this spot).
secrets to unfold.
