Coral Bay Trip 2014 - Video
Submitted by Spence on Thu, 2014-08-14 20:50Came back from coral bay the other week. Epic Trip!
I won't brag too much, other than saying it was trip of a lifetime for sure. Bagging out everyday, within an hour or so. Managed our 20kgs no worries and still had time to explore the sights.
I'll let the Video do most of the talking

Micro Jiggy Joo
Submitted by tim-o on Fri, 2014-08-08 20:23Got the arvo off and headed out of Hillarys to see if I could find some bird/bait/bustup action out in the 40s. Cruised around for a bit with nothing to be seen then headed to a mark that was in the area and dropped a 30g Caprice down that was ready to go on the lil jigger. Few hops and turns and boom, hooked up. A few runs and not wanting to leave the bottom, I couldnt put much more drag on the lil 2000 caldia incase of bustin the PE0.6 WX4. Backed up a few times to stay on top of the fish and eventually up comes this 7kg Dhu. My best fish so far on the micro jigger.

Days like this
Submitted by Gonad Man on Tue, 2014-08-05 09:51Had a great day out on Sunday off of Bunbury. Picked up two solid dhuies on the first drift, 17kg and 16kg. Packed up and heading home after 15 minutes of fishing, if only it was this easy every time. Massive school on the sounder so hanging to get out and get into a few more. Both caught on fresh mullet in 40m well north of town.

Exmouth deepdrop
Submitted by reece on Mon, 2014-08-04 22:09Had a epic week in exmouth last week! Perfect weather an fish every where as usual.
Big thanks to the lads at Ocean Side for my new Relax outriggers and to Rhys from PGFC for helping rig them up! Landed my first marlin with in half an hour of putting the lures out then found the best ruby spot Iv ever seen!
Every drop was a double header of 15-20kg fish with in seconds of Hitting the bottom! Only lost one fish to the tax man all week.
Had a prospect drif on a spot we sounded up an locked on big time! We wer thinking monster ruby or cod but turned out to be a thrasher shark! Rear as rocking horse shit.. It tail wrapped and busted us off just after the pic.

First of the season
Submitted by jarrid on Sat, 2014-08-02 09:17Went out from woodies last night after work for first crack at a pinky this season. There were a few boats where we ended up and we saw a few high fives so a couple of decent fish must have got boated. We were surprised to get three undersized dhuies (by as little as about 5mm), as well as some little sharks, a ray and some rock cod. Decided to pull the anchor and move but anchor was stuck properly and we eventually snapped one of the links on the chain. If anyone is going for a dive just west of Carnac let me know and I will give you the spot and a carton if you can find it.
ended up heading back into the sound sans anchor and with nothing in the esky so thought we would try another spot. Fished it pretty hard for a couple of hours and luckily ended up with a nice pinky as per below. My brother also lost one half way into the boat as despite it being well hooked the leader must have been worn and snapped clean off.
Good to be back in to it, but still struggling to find other spots that produce.
cheers,
jarrid

Few pics from warroora station
Submitted by kurtfish on Fri, 2014-08-01 06:39Hey I went up to warroora station for the first time at the end of May this year and caught plenty of nice fish we mainly fished off the beach, we were just bait casting mulies and caught heaps of spanglies trevally, threadfin queenside and lots more took the tinny out a few times but it was hard work putting it in the water as it was a steep boggy beach we got about 4 mac lies that got sharked at the boat which was cool to see the first time after that was annoying. I managed to land a nice shark mackerel and some nice spangled emperor and some nice trevally. It was a great trip apart from loosing a wheel off the boat trailor on the way home haha got a few pics cheers kurt

Redfin Perch (South-West Australia)
Submitted by SKREW-LOOSE on Fri, 2014-07-25 01:28Had a break from the big land based fish and took a break back on the fresh water.
We went to a freshwater Dam, which was about 1 and a half hours away from Perth... we never tried this dam before so for most of the day, until 3PM, we were looking for fishing spots, targeting and trying to find the Redfin Perch & Rainbow Trout. We tried fishing the snags, open pool-like areas, everything!
We caught nothing all day, we were stressed that we weren't going to find the fish!
We decided to find a new spot, even though this spot looked like a perfect place to hold some fish in the freshwater... As we started the 4x4 drive, we went down this big trail which was wet and really soft mud, we thought it would be alright until our back wheels just sunk tire-deep into it!
we were so bogged, that not even the tow-service could pull us out, so we were over it for the day, it was getting cold and dark and everyone was tired, with no fish!
as the tow-service left when the sun started going down, with no way of moving the car, i saw splashes in the water... it looked like rain drops, but that's when I noticed that it wasn't raining...
i grabbed my rod using a Rapala X-Rap lure, ran back down to the dam and started casting... first cast I landed a nice Redfin Perch, one after the other! 7 cast 7 fish! - They must have been in a feeding frenzy during Dusk!?
it got dark so we had to leave and abandon the beast of a Hilux at the dam until we could think of a way to get it out... it wasn't moving anywhere! We left the car at the dam and drove home in my friends car...
The following day, Paul, my girlfriend Ruby and I drove back down to the dam, we dug trenches using shovels under the front tires of the bogged Hilux and placed two scaffolding planks under each tire. The back tires and back diff of the car were so bogged in mud that it made a hole-like area which filled up with water like a pond over night.
So, using the shovels, I then had to build and form a stream to drain all the water that was covering the whole back end of the car. It worked perfectly! the stream started flowing into the dam, draining all the water... This took alot of work.
We then tied Pauls 4x4 drive to the car with a chain and towed it while accelerating in the bogged Hilux. The front wheels caught traction on the scaffold and got right up! The car was successfully retrieved!
It proves that even if you feel like all options are over and you have tried everything, that their is still more you can always do as a team if you take your time and put your mind to it!

Recent Steep point trip pics
Submitted by scottnofish on Thu, 2014-07-24 12:54Went to steep point for 8 days at the end of June the weather wasn't really on our side , only got out 3 times but the fishing was ok , got a couple of nice reds , a few rankins , pearl perch , some good size spangos around 75 cm and heaps of pinkies, only got2 baldies but which was a bit odd as normally they are like blowies against the cliffs . Had fun on the 3 rd night when I broke a moring rope at 2am and had to rescue the boat before it washed ashore then blew a charge regulator on 1 motor so was waking up to flat batteries every morning

Early morning Floreat drain session.
Submitted by Dan0 on Sun, 2014-07-20 10:47Hi guys.
Decided to go and try out the old drain on Saturday morning after a disappointing effort at jurien last weekend I wasn't expecting much.. Pulled out my new stradic attached it to the penn big game surf rod a chucked out a bait to soak. A few winds of the handle and bang I'm on!! After a little fight my first ever Mullaway hit the shore even if it was just undersize was still a good start. Quickly baited up again a flicked it back out. After about 10 mins or so I was on again this time a good size flattie was on the end. Thinking to myself things come in three my line was quickly back out past the breakers. After about a hour or so bang my line pulled tight and the new stradic started to scream. After some acrobatics and a good fight for 5mins or so I landed my first metro salmon. Was a day of first for me and a much better morning than my whole last weekend up at jurien.

Big Tagged Pinkie!
Submitted by De-Crais on Tue, 2014-07-15 16:14Hi all,
Headed out from Woodies last Saturday for another snapper session with Dean (Dirt) and Max, and of course can't forget the No1 deckie Marlin Dean's bullie. He just loves coming fishing.
We headed to a spot we've been fishing regularly lately and bagging out on every trip and Saturday afternon was to be no exception with the three of us bagging out by 6.00pm and on our way home. We all caught some really nice pinks and there was some decent sized skippy being caught in between the snapper, they were on the bite early with most of the snapper being caught before dark.
The high light of the afternoon was a horse tagged pinkie that I caught that measured 92cm tag No 5265 could be one of Ryan's maybe? It was an awsome fish to catch virtually took the bait as it landed on the water the bait probably only got to sink a couple of feet. This big pink being a tagged fish and such a great capture it was decided it would be released so a quick measure and a couple of pics and back in the water to fight another day. It was such a pleasure to watch this big snapper swim away. :-)
We were throwing soft plastics around but the snapper didn't seem to interested in them all the fish caught took unweighted scalies. The only surprise catch on a plastic for the arvo was a large salmon that took a nuclear chicken jerk shad as it was getting dark and we were about to pull the anchore and head home, we first called it for a big tailor when it was doing it's ariels out the back of the boat, don't have the pic of that one at the moment sorry.
I've been trying to get in touch with the fisheries report the capture and give them all the details! But it is proving to be very frustrating I keep getting put through to research and no one answers the phone! I have left messages and no one rings me back.
Here's a few pics of another top pinkie session.
Me and the tagged snapper
The No1 deckie in the back ground flat out as usual!...lol
The skip with a nice pinkie.
And again.
Cheers hope you enjoyed the read and pics.

GREAT WHITE
Submitted by mallon123 on Mon, 2014-07-14 18:21Had a 5mt+great white circling my boat on sat arvo 6nm off hillarys. It circled the boat about 6 times and nudged the outboard a couple of times, got a couple of scratches but nothing serious. When we got back to the boat ramp i had a look at the motor and there was tooth fragments stuck in the leg. Was an awesome experience to see such a massive beast up so close. Ive had a 3.5 mt white cruise past the boat and a few big tigers smash the outboard but they had nothing on this big girl. The adrenaline was pumping for a few hours after. just lucky it didnt damage the prop. They definitely are the king of the ocean and I dont support barnets cull. i no the risks of the ocean and I have a lot of respect for the ocean its there territory. It doesnt stop me from enjoying it.

Salmons for days
Submitted by beau on Sun, 2014-07-13 12:08After 100+ PM's between Tim-O and myself, Tim finally decided to drag the boat down my neck of the woods so I could show him around some of my favourite haunts. Pressure was on me but the day started well with a few tailor getting pulled out of the wash on plugs while Tim skippered his beautiful tub in safe water. Then the target fish came on, and in a big way, 3 and a half hours of non-stop salmon action! Whatever we threw at them was getting engulfed, poppers, stickbaits, jigs, squid jigs.. Caught a few fish each then took the hooks off and enjoyed a spectacular surface-action show.
Thanks for coming down Tim, great day had by all!
Cheers,
Beau

Cannonball bernier
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2014-07-08 19:51Not goin to be much of a story, as can't back it up with too many photos...
got back Sunday night from a 3 day trip to the islands with a couple of mates. Scored big time with the weather, and with the fish, although if you think the sharks are bad in exxy, you ain't seen shit....
It was near impossible to land snapper at most spots, and even moving a km or two away, the pricks of things would be there waiting for you, and in big numbers. It was seriously not worth fishing any depth between 15-80m, they were EVERYWHERE. I honestly can't beleive the numbers of these things.
Anyway, resorted to the trusty rob Allen to put runs on the board, and runs we made. Water crystal clear in most spots, mantas frolicking, big fish abundant, trigger finger got a workout. Had some frikkin awesome photos of awesome fish too, until my underwater Nikon camera shit itself in 12m water, burst a seal, camera dead, Scotto pissed.
Got our 2 days bag limit over the 3 days. Here's one of the only photos my mate got. Shit shadows, but good tusky and baldy.

New Leeman Ramp
Submitted by roberta on Tue, 2014-07-08 12:15Hi FWer's,
Illyarrie Street Leeman Boat Ramp Update 2nd July, 2014
Just got some Council news in the local rag.
Progress on the new Boat Ramp has been slow with the anticipated completion date now expected to be the end of August 2014. This is some three months later than originally planned.
There has been a number of delays by contractors engaged in the project including changes to the bund construction method which, alone, has added an estimated two months. The Bund is finished however there has been problems sealing the bund which will allow the site to be dewatered. With the weather now very into a Winter pattern surge issues have been hampering divers attempts to seal the bund. Recent storm events have impacked on the project with the barge breaking free of its moorings and ending up damaged on the rocks north of the construction site and waves coming over the bund.
There has been some progress with the on-shore piling commenced and the brickwork on the tiolet block substantially finished.
Despite my previous advice, I am as yet unable to confirm details that contractor is able to keep to the revised timetable.
Preliminary plans have commenced which will see the new facility officially opened however, the date is yet to be finalised at this stage.
Hopefully FW'ers it will be finished by Xmas and the tiolet block has been sewered, road has been closed for them to do it.
