Brag Rights, Catch and Release or Unusual Captures

Swan afternoon session

Followed a school of bait along the shore flicking squidgy fish. Got more than it could ask for with my bag limit in about 15 minutes. They were busting up only 20 meters from the shoreline, fantastic fun!

New transducer mount v1

My new transom mount for my new 50khz 2kw + 200khz 1kw hondex transducer combo for my fcv 295 gearing up for exmouth next week deep drop if the weather plays the game all I need to do is round the ends of the plastic at the front of the bracket and narrow it down

Saves mounting 2 transducers

hoping should get around 30knts out of this prototype when I get it finished I shall weld it on

Nothing like trying to mount a brick size transducer to the back of a boat

Fatty Flatty

67cm flathead caught and released metro.

Coral Bay April 2014 (pic heavy)

Recent trip up north to coral bay produced some good fish. The weather was terrible and there was some serious flooding but the fishing was excellent.

Salmon Session

Had an unreal salmon session yesterday in nice and close. Convoyed out with 2 other boats and we all caught plenty of fish. Catch of the day has to go to my mate Jeff, I've known Jeff since primary school and the extent of his fishing carrer was with me catching herring on green straw back in high school. The arsey bastard caught a 68cm pinkie on a bloody richter plug, as well as butt load of salmon! On the way back to the ramp we come across a waterspout which topped off quite an eventful day!

Anyway, I'll let the photos do the talking.

Cast around some hookless stickbaits for some cool surface action. No matter how quick you could reel in, the salmon could always swim faster!

Exmouth 2014

Hi,

Just got back from Exmouth, went up with a good group of mates. Even after the rain ocean was clear and fish were on, when we could get out.

Spent the first day driving around the gulf getting drunk, catching fish but nothing of any decent size.

the rains then came and fishing slowed due to weather but safe to say the GT's fired! We landed 13 fish from 19 bites in a 3 hour session landbased. 1 bricking and another set of straightened trebles. Fish ranged from 10kg - 25kg plus.

Smashed a few demersals with a super deep bash, and shallow water jigging and plastics. Personally i found the 11 INCH MUMBA  mcarthys to be dominate on rankin and other demersals. Even managed to hook a small black around 30kg on one in 50m.

Spent about 3 sessions trolling for billfish out of the tinny and managed to go 11-7-5. Biggest black being around the 45kg mark.

Friday arvo pinks

Went out yesterday arvo for some inshore pinks, decide to look for a new spot instead of fishing the few same old spots I have that usually produce. Found a good looking spot in 14m's of water out from hillaries so dropped the pick, got the burley flowing and put out a couple of floaters while I stuffed about. Not long after the floater went off an up come a 60cm dhuie, great start! Put out another floater and then decided to drop down a small rig on a light rod to catch some fresh bait, as soon as it hit the bottom it got smashed hard and it was off on a screaming run. Fought the fish for about 5 mins or so and finally up poped a 75cm pinky on 10lb with a little 1/0 hook in the corner of its mouth, got a bit lucky there I think! Had a few more runs and a few odds and sods until we landed another pinky at 55cm just after dark. With the light gone (forgot the torches and head lamps) and the beer supply running low we headed back in. Took a sounder shot but it's a little blurry, but ill stick it up anyway

PB Macky - Quobba

Got this Macky on the last troll of the last arvo on the last day...went 140cm and was fat too, was the fish of the trip!

Got a bit snappy last night.

Launched the tub late yesterday arvo for a bit of a night fish.

Caught this solid fish (was really thick across shoulders) on a 2-4 kilo stick 2500 stradic and 10lb braid was dangling a lucanas jig.

Also lost a solid approx 15kilo yellow tail king at the side of the boat on 20lb.

Thanks the boys at ocean side tackle got my new jigging rod for my north trip

Thanks Ryan from ocean side tackle for sorting me out with my new jigging rod and bits and bobs for my north trip on saterday , bring it on , and also for the advise you boys give out I will post some photo of the trip .

Salmon bonanza!

 Gday

went chasing some metro salmon over the weekend with a good mate (claypac). Got stuck into one of the hottest sessions I've had in a long while. Landed over 20 between the two of us in about 2 hours. Double hook ups were the norm and all the fish were horses! Really memorable couple of hours. Seeing 5kg+ salmon launch clean out of the water boat side with a big lure hanging out their gob is something else. We were actually thankful when we would lose one boat side so we didn't have to deal with them in the boat.

The majority of fish were caught drolling deep divers, even though the fish were on the surface they were reluctant to hit my offering of a popper which was strange.

FIRST LAND BASED SNAPPER!

Not a monster by any means, but got my first land based snapper the other night :) couldnt be happier.

33kg gutted and gilled

decided to go for a quick fish last night and caught this 33kg mulloway as well as 2 gummy sharks what a trip

Hillaries storm pinks

Just thought id share my first landbased pinkies I've finally gotten, been a hard last few years chasin them with a few lost at the rocks. Everything finally came together last night and managed to break the drought.

first was 4kg and 73cm

second was 9kg and 95cm

now to wait for the nxt storm and try to break that meter mark lol.

cheers

Reece

Down south deep drop

Had a good day out last weekend. Started with a quick drop in the 50s on the way out. First drop on the spot got us 2 nice dhuys so we decided to keep going to the shelf.

First drop in 470m landed us 2 blue eye. Moved to the bottom of the edge an picked up a monster bass! Wanting to get a mixed bag we went inside to 220m an got a 25kg cod to finish off our bag limit!

The other boat with us got about the same mixed bag!

LB North Mole Salmon

few salmon around always awesome to see such big fish with there aerials all on soft plastics and plus a nice 45cm by catch. thnx to Jamie for the gaff

Salmon and Tailor

Went out with the goatlobster before the storm blew up, plan was to catch and release some tailor off the reefs then hopefully find some salmon lurking around.
The tailor spot was going bonkers, we pulled fish ranging from 47-52cms every cast on plugs and stickbaits. You could see the tailor schooling in 1ft of water so it was easy pickings.

IMG_3919

Played around with them for about half an hour before deciding to get serious and find these metro salmon.

First cast at the next spot was met by a solid hookup on stickbait for the goat and then the water erupted behind my plug with salmon absolutely going bazerk. Had a ball for a couple hours catching one after another on stickbaits, poppers and minnows.

Whenever we lost sight of the fish we'd throw the lures out the back and troll and we'd find them pretty quickly again.
Hoping to do it all again when the weather clears. What usually happens with the metro salmon after a big blow, do they push out further offshore or will they still be hanging around in close? My first year targetting them offshore so not sure what to expect after this shitty weather.

A day in Snapper, oh I mean Shark Bay

Up in Denham for a few days for work.  Here's a few pics of from around town.  Cannot get over how many pinkies are around!

R&R is just to short, but not short enough that i can't get a few good fish in.

Finaly my week of R&R came up and it was my turn for some fish instead of looking at all the pictures of all the other lucky buggers out getting into a few for the last 3 weeks.
spent the week down in Albany at home and fished a few days, tried for sharks one night for nothing, went to a remote spot in the middle of nowhere that usualy produces heap and heaps of fish but was just not to be as we couldnt get a lure or a bait past the salmon all day. Got stuck into some landbased sambo action with the mrs and she even got her first dhufish and got an arvo out in the boat in magic conditions for a bit of a jig.
biggest LB sambo went 20-22kg, boat ones where around 15kg and i got my first nanny at a very healthy 50cm. Cant wait for the next week off now.

Another Metro Yellowfin Tuna

Headed out today again, basically same story as last time..

Bottom bouncing a couple of spots, saw a couple of birds just flying around not diving or anything. Thought i saw something free jumping out of the water, chucked a lure out, 10 minutes goes by thought i probably was seeing things and it was just a white cap..

Then the rod gets hit but didnt hookup.. bugger, 2 seconds later it starts screaming!! fish on !!

Could tell fairly quickly this was another tuna but came up pretty easy this time , 15ish minutes later had this little guy on board (looked tiny compared to the last one).

Pretty happy with that, bled and gutted and found a few interesting things inside, one i have no idea what it was bit it was spiney as hell!

Finished the day with a 60cm dhue and blackass.

Added a couple of pics of both the tuna and the fish im hoping someone can identify as well as tell me what the heck it was doing inside a tunas gut???

Tuna weighed in at just over 17kg at home so guessing around 20ish before gilled and gutted.

Got a little bit of footage too if anyone can tell me where to upload it?

PB Snapper Saturday

Hi everyone,

Went out in Geo Bay on saturday in glassy conditions, cruised out around 16 mile from Dolphin Rd ramp, spotted a likely looking school of fish on the sounder in 38m and dropped my squid bait into the mouth of this Snapper, went 85cm and 7.2kg on the bathroom scales when i got home. Also caught and released a 20cm baby dhu and a 42cm pinky (on the way back in around 8 mile out).

Cheers,

Robz

Super Saturday Salmon Sesh!

On the water at 8:30 yesterday morning with the boy and headed straight out from Hillarys to see what we could find. Not long in the 20s and we saw heaps of bird activity and after a minute observing and not seeing any bust ups I decided to troll. In a matter of seconds we were on. The fish were spread out everywhere and wasnt hard trollin them up each time, just follow the birds... The wind dropped right off around 10 and the birds were getting tired of flyin around but the fish started bustin up here and there so had some fun casting into the schools and very visual strikes with loads of followers and strikes right up to the boat, the water was thick with them!
Been havin fun micro jiggin lately and when we were sounding the fish down deep, right under where the birds were gathered, sitting on the water, I thought, why not, who cares if we get smoked! After Brock pullin the hooks on a couple, it was my turn to fight one on the gomoku and 10lb. Instant hook up on the bottom, the fish seem to head to the surface easily so they can jump in an attempt to throw the hooks, then they power down to the bottom again, good fun with no idiot boaties or structure to compete with. So stoked to get the boy on to them, as he was to catch them, a bit too much for him when they went deep tho, needs to put on a few kegs and a few months in the gym lol. Lost count of how many we hooked and boated, was a great session, spewin I forgot to charge the camera, would have been heaps more fun footage....
Watch in 1080.....

pb sambo

After a day out bottom bouncing with nothing to show for we decided to have a troll back to the ramp hoping maybe for a salmon an this come up an smashed my smiling jack

took 2 off my boys out

had a great day ,nothing huge landed ,15 dhues ,(most under) nice baldie 2 smaller ones , black ass, had big bronzy on (tag team) hurt like a bit__ .20 mins later back of boat bit through trace. we had a visit from a massive white(i thought it was minky whale at first) never touched boys dhues at all.some thumping kgs 1.2 biggest

Stonker Baldie

Got out today after a long dry spell and decided to have the kids babysat so we could get out of the sound.

The decky(missus) didnt feel real well so we stayed in pretty close, anchored up and fed the burly out, pulled in a nice Black Ass, the wife pulled in a couple of rat sambos, which she enjoyed.

Had my littel 10kg outfit ouot and next minute something took off. i could feel a decent bit of weight. I was hoping for a snapper as we had pulled in a few undersize, a couple of head shakes, but only short kinda slow runs had me wondering whether it was something differen...maybe a small sambo even.

Winding in a few small runs, calling it for everything thinking snapper, but didnt feel right and then got a bit of colour. Silver, ok good maybe this maybe that, and then the big friggen head came ito view, ouot came the net and I did a little fist pump, far out a "baldie" huge. And my first, I didnt expect that especially since we were in 12m of water, a Sambo, Kingy, snapper but not a Baldie.

Best of all it measures a full 72cm, STONKET yaaahooo....   :)
